Sad about the online won't be free anymore Nintendo Switch

Its stupid that Nintendo has to not make online free anymore. September this year is when they are going to shut down the free online and make people pay for online instead now. Nintendo doesn't need to do that at all, they just care about getting money, this is another thing why I don't really like what Nintendo does to people, like they have to make the prices high for cheap little amiibo toys. That is just dumb and its a high price for an amiibo reader.

Servers aren't free and Nintendo has to pay for them. Besides, compared to Sony and Microsoft, $20USD a year is pretty cheap for an online service. The money we're paying is pretty much going to be used to improve the servers and keep them running.

How is it dumb? Due to the growing online community more servers are needed thus more costs are generated to maintain those servers. It's expensive, and it's normal to pay for a service that you use. You also have to pay for your phone calls right? So honestly it was pure luxury we had free online play in the past.

Disagreeing with you isn't rude lol. You're only arguement is "it's dumb/stupid " because you think free internet and paying for the servers for free is an obligation on Nintendo's behalf.

Nobody wants to spend money, but servers are expensive, it basically comes down to this.
Free crappy servers < Paid "premium" servers.
And Nintendo made the right choice.

Super Smash Bros. is really bad online, it was soooo slow and I couldn't even play online on that game anymore. Mario Kart 7 was okay, but people get so angry because they didn't win, so they error everyone in that game.

I'm not rich in the slightest either, but if you can afford a switch I'm sure you can afford $4 between 8 people each, or $20 for one person A YEAR. That's less than $2 a month.

You paying for internet have nothing to do with Nintendos servers.
And I don't think you realize how expensive it is to host dedicate servers, especially for games.
And companies don't really make any money from selling consoles, they want them to be as accessible to people as possible so that they can sell more software.
And software/games costs millions to create, and the cost doesn't stop even after it's released, upkeep, updates, fixes, they gotta keep employees on that, some games don't even break even.

They could have just kept P2P connections, but the Switch is marketed to young adults, so of course it makes sense that they'd want dedicated servers.

It's not a lot they're asking for, and you'll get a way superior experience.

So does this mean that if Nintendo feels like they've already invested enough in game development, product promotion and whatever they have to spend money on, they could just be like "Oh this is stupid af let's not pay our employees anymore, we're paying enough money already".

That's simply not how it works, they have to make up for the costs they make and they decided to do that by offering a subscription service. They could also make the games more expensive to compensate for example but this way they give players a choice by offering an optional service.
