This information is outdated, it was written before the 2.0 update released a day early. I live in EST/EDT too. Everyone who has been telling you it is 12 am is correct.

Right now I am not sure anymore. I will see for myself it does release at 9 PM but if its at 12 AM then its very strange of Nintendo to do this.

i would imagine the statement about it coming out at 9pm was in regards to the update itself coming out at the same time worldwide, which occurred early anyway as we saw. considering so far every other area has unlocked it at midnight local time, it's safe to assume you've got a bit longer to wait to get it
editing to add - it's not too strange of nintendo because the DLC is a separate game and so naturally is tied to its specific release date, whereas the update is released when it's released so happens at the exact same time around the world no matter the official time

Why is it strange? The release date for HHP is November 5th. It's 8:30pm on November 4th right now. If you're concerned about others getting it early, it's because other time zones ahead of us have already reached midnight and are able to download.

It is the predownload, you're right. Mine did the same when I bought it on the 29th.

I am not able to play it. It releases at midnight. It's a very common feature for Nintendo to let you predownload games that come out at another release date. Its so when everyone is trying to go to the eshop on release day, it won't crash their servers because a lot of people have it downloaded already and aren't rushing to the eshop. Downloaded is not the same as installed. I would wager to say many people have it downloaded but not installed. Installed is what lets you play it.

Okay I guess when you put it that way it will release by midnight, but still is there like any sort of indication to tell when you have the DLC? Its so hard to tell.

Apparently some source was claiming that it would come out around 9 PM but then to find out the information was outdated because it was written before the 2.0 update came out.
