The ACNH Rant Thread

Its really stupid how you cannot sell bugs to Flick or CJ if they are on your friends island unless if its either the Bug Off or Fishing Journey. For example Flick was on both of my islands so I decided to test to see if I can sell bugs on another players island. It does not work. It has to be the Flick that is on your own island and not the Flick that is on your friend's island. Same thing goes with CJ

Yea I don’t really get this. Since we can buy from Sahara, Kicks and Leif when they are on a friends island. It makes no sense we can’t sell to flick or C.J. when they are on a friends island.

I haven't really taken advantage of the multiplayer that much. So I've only visited my friends a total of like 3-5 times. But that's really stupid. It's like this would be something to implement so you know multiplayer wasn't so pointless?

But they insist on the game being about 50% locked behind a online paywall and then do the bare minimum. I like Nintendo as an innovative and creative company, but their business sense is just awful.

I don't understand why we can't hang someone else's custom designs in our Able Sisters. Just have the villagers say something like "Oh, [name] from [island name] made this, didn't they? They're so talented, I could wear this everyday!" when they put it on or something, and voilà.

I hate that they trashed the sassy/"offending" attitudes villagers apparently had.
I understand their thinking-process (I really do) and from a marketing perspective this propably was the right move but when I see that there used to be progress that really made you "work" for your connection (never played one of the old titles) it's a little sad how "vanilla" every villager feels now.

I'd love to have the sass back but at the very minimum, why can't they have to gain your friendship, like you stated. It's just assumed now that they're automatically your friend from the very first time you speak to them and it's just not rewarding. There's no point in really speaking to them since it's not like you'll get closer to them anyway, they already adore you for existing.

The 'sass' from Population Growing was actually creative liberties when translating the game from Japanese. So NoA just decided to go with a more crass/rude dialogue. I don't have any examples on my hand, but that's apparently what has been confirmed at this point.

The villager's are at their weakest in NH. Really everything pretty much was put on the back burner for terraforming and designing. Which kind of hurt it pre-update since it felt like we paid full price for early access/beta-testing. With all the other games, everything was accessible to us from the start. So if you were done mayoral duties/pwp for the day, you had a bunch of other choices to get involved in.

When you were done terraforming/designing, there was much less to do. Which obviously made how weak the villager's interactions were glaringly obvious. NL wasn't carried by the villagers by any means, but there was so much more to do at the start that it wasn't as noticeable. With NH they cut so much content that it was hard not to notice.

I do miss how the villager's warmed up to you over time. I miss the megaphone that showed their level of friendship where they would react differently if you called their name (looking around confused, a wave, gleeful waving) sitting on a bench with them and having them have a big grin with high friendship, playing hide-and-seek ect.

Speaking of the bare-bones launch, I remembered how they time-locked everything from 2020. You can't tell me that it took them an entire month to work/code in a holiday (since that's mainly what 2020 updates were)

Even Terraforming feels a bit like it was left on the back burner. It's a bit clunky. The amount of time and effort it takes to do it all 1 title at a time feels like they came up with the idea but didn't do anything further than a proof of concept.

For real, even a marker/cursor would be a step up. I can't tell you how many times I over or undershot where I intended to terraform.

Part of me wonders if they withheld such QoL improvements so they could either sell NH+ or leave it to perfect in the next game so they'd have something to showcase.

The aiming in that game is bad. For whatever reason my character will actually kinda lurch forward and skip a square when digging a hole or terraforming. The grid they have isn't good either as with some things you can't even center. They should've done what they do in The Sims where you zoom out to bird's eye view and can build walls and place furniture with a cursor. Doing it manually square by square is mind numbing and no matter how long it's been since the game's release, it still kills me. That said, still miles better than PWPs in NL. Those were man's inhumanity to man.

The one thing I do have to give them credit for it having the ability to replace a pattern and have the game autofill with that new pattern. That's saved me hours of path laying.

I don't think villagers are too repetitive in NH (especially compared to NL) but more like they didn't live up to their full potential. There's so much more that could have been done with them and it's disappointing that it took a back seat compared to things like terraforming :(

Agreed. I was reminded recently that in NL, at least, villagers can wear the default patterns in the shop and mention thay Someone from Anytown made it. They just can't do it with custom shirts and it's weird! I remember people complaining about this so they could have made it a feature in NH :( There are so many cute designs I wish my villagers could wear!

I think NL and NH are about the same as far as the villagers go. At least as far as dialogue goes. It just happened to be so much more obvious with NH since when you're doing terraforming the villager interactions just can't carry the game whereas NL had a lot more going on.

Yeah now that you mention that the characters will lunge forward and skip whole tiles sometimes. I'm almost positive that NL did the same thing with the QR tiles. If you saved over a pattern it would replace it.

I almost never terraform so I can't speak to that aspect tbh

I planned to make cliffs around the airport and they didn’t turn out as great as I wanted them to be.

The waterfall noises get pretty aggravating to hear too. I might only put in like 3 of them in the end.

Okay I need to say this and this is why I HATE the Stamp Rally in this game. Every single day whenever I talk to Blathers to either donate or assess fossils he always keeps telling me "Oh we are sitll hosting the Stamp Rally" he really never stops talking about it. Like I get it I've done already stop reminding me for the 50th time!

Exactly, he should only explain it once. This goes for explanations in general.

I reslly wish I could get all the reactions without having to bring in a rando to get them and then leave them

Not everyone wants all the personalities on their island! This mechanic is so annoying especially to people with an all male island or all female island! Who dont have all of the oposite gender's reactions.

So annoying. I hope they drop that.

Haven’t had a camper for like two weeks now. It’s getting pretty boring and I’m tempted to TT for them.

You know that sound it makes and the facial expression your character makes when you try to dig up a clam but you're too close to the water so you just swing your shovel at nothing? Yeah I absolutely hate it for some reason. Nothing in this game gets on my nerves like this does, not even villagers blocking the way or having to read the same dialogue from NPCs ten times a week. Dunno why though, it just does. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is kind of a full on issue. I remember Timmy and Tommy would talk about their black friday deal alllll the time in around Thanksgiving. So it wasn't even every day, it was each time you went into their shop or whatever.

So many of the npc talk way too much. CJ and Flick have like 8 separate text bubbles just to get through their introduction whenever they visit. 'Omg they're so quirky!?' Anyone remember how people fawned over them? (I can't stand how Flick's bug/fish models are ridiculously not to size. It's not a quirk to me, it impedes on the game, but that's for another time)

Saharah talks so much and each time you have to go back into her text prompt to buy another rug. You know, instead of just being able to do it all at once. Same with Able's clothes shop. Or setting up the internet connection with Orville.

Crap just isn't set up right. And they know it. Half tempted this was their way of padding the game's time in the worst way.
