Good grief.
It's really strange. I'm 28 now, but when I was in high school, a lot of people I know really liked them, or at least acknowledged that they were an amazing band. But maybe, like you said, now that people are a bit older and have developed their musical tastes a bit more, they are just sick of always hearing about them and maybe annoyed by the fact that more recent bands don't get the same amount of praise. I think the thing about The Beatles is, it's not about how good they were as a band, because I'll admit, some of the songs from their earlier albums were a bit insipid. I think it's more about how they changed the music industry. They were so experimental and influential, and they really paved the way for future bands.
Haha, sorry for the long response. Not all of it's aimed at you specifically. Some of this I just wrote for people who dislike The Beatles to read.
I would agree that whether or not people like The Beatles depends on generation it seems, which isn't particularly surprising.
I would admit that I sometimes feel like ABBA is underrated.
