Pokémon The Pokémon Challenge Thread

I started up another Omega Ruby Nuzlocke last night! So far my team is:
Excelsior the Female Poochyena, lv 10.
Elena the Female Treecko, lv 11.
Dusty the Male Cascoon, lv 7.
Misteon the Male Surskit, lv 7.
Zigs the Male Zigzagoon, 7.
Pinstripe the Male Slakoth, lv 7.

Badges: 0
Deaths: NONE

The layout of this team will definitely change as this Nuzlocke progresses. I'm for sure going to attempt to keep Excelsior and Elena as long as possible. The others will depend on what I find. Right now I don't have as much type coverage as my last Nuz, and I know that'll kick me in the teeth if Im not careful. I'd love to use Pinstripe more, but he almost got annihilated by a Bide Seedot already. We'll see how he does. Either way, I'm excited to see how this run goes!

Thanks for posting your new challenges here, guys. Looking forward to reading the updates! :)

I just ended today's play session! I was deathly sick today, so I had a ton of time while I rested in bed. I'm just outside of Olivia's shop, ready to get the note from Probopass.

Death Count: 2
Snorunt~ Died in a double battle. Killed by a Rufflet.
Sylveon~ Died against a Miltank who used Rolllout.
Total Deaths: 2

Current Team:
Grovyle (male, level 29)
Charjabug (female, level 26)
Oricorio (pa'u form, female, level 28)
Ribombee (male, level 25)
Tentacool (female, level 27)
Torracat (male, level 29).

Today's play session was short, mainly because it made me really sad. I'm in Malie garden right now.

Deaths: 1
Ribombee~ Died to Hau's Raichu
Total Deaths: 3

Current team (don't remember the levels, unfortunately) :
Grovyle (male)
Torracat (male)
Tentacruel (female)
Charjabug (female)
Oricorio (Pa'u style, female)
Roggenrola (female)

Honestly, Rimbombee's death really upset me. He was such a key player. Since Charjabug is practically useless until Poni Island now, he was my best bug. I should have sacrificed Charjabug over him. I already didn't like Hau/Alolan Raichu, but that just made it a lot worse.

Current team:
Excelsior the Female Poochyena, lv 14.
Elena the Female Grovyle, lv 17.
Dusty the Male Dustox, lv 12.
Zigs the Male Zigzagoon, lv 12.
Pinstripe the Male Slakoth, lv 11.
Pels the Female Wingull, lv 10.

Deaths: 1
Misteon the Male Surskit
Badges: 1

Misteon became the first casualty on this run. He was sacrificed during a double battle between Lotad and Seedot. Both Elena and Excelsior were at risk of a biding Seedot and had to retreat, and unfortunately Misteon paid the price. Pels had been on standby so, for now, they are the 6th member of my team. Other than that, there hasn't been any major issues thus far. On to the next gym!

Current team:
Excelsior the Female Mightyena, Lv 20.
Dr. Acula the Female Zubat, lv 10.
Wish the Female Whismur, Lv. 8.
Hail the Tailow, Lv/ 8.

Deaths:
Misteon the Male Surskit
Elena the Female Grovyle
Dusty the Male Dustox
Zigs the Male Zigzagoon
Pinstripe the Male Slakoth
Pels the Female Wingull

Badges: 2

I guess I'll make another update. So much for the lack of major issues. The rival battle with May was an utter disaster. Excelsior dropped the Wailmer with ease, but Pels had some trouble with the Shroomish. While she was able to take it down, she became poisoned in the process. I switched to Pinstripe as an attempt to put her Combusken to sleep with the aim of switching back to Pels and water pulsing it to death. Unfortunately, Pels failed to do much damage to it despite the super effective hits. Combusken woke up, flame charged, and Pels succumbed to poison. The Combusken proceeded to almost speed sweep my entire team. One by one it either double kicked or flame charged my Pokemon to death. Excelsior was the sole survivor of the fight and now faces the unenviable task of carrying the team from here on out.

Sorry to hear about this. Yeah, May’s team has been a real challenge for me before in several OR/AS Nuzlocke Challenges. Hopefully you can press forward and recover well.

Looking forward to reading the next updates. :)

Well, that's that. With Excelsior being the sole survivor against May I knew this run was on borrowed time, but I attempted to salvage it. Excelsior managed to defeat Watson and get the third badge, but both Dr Acula and Wish had to be sacrificed to deal with status conditions. With just Excelsior and Hail remaining, I attempted the trainer house on Route 111 to gain experience. Everything was going well until I had to face the Meditite on the final trainer. Excelsior got it down to red, but a Force Palm critical hit ensured this was over. Hail wasn't fast enough to finish the job and was one shot by a final Force Palm.

Disappointing run given how successful my prior was, but that's how it goes. My team didn't have anywhere near as well of a type coverage this time around and I paid the price for it against May. Was super excited to give Mightyena a try too. Ah well. I'm not sure what game/type of run I'll do next. I'm tempted to do a "Rocky Balboa" themed playthrough next time and do only fighting types. We shall see.

BUMP.

Does anyone have any challenges going on right now? My next challenge will be a Wonderlocke on Pokemon Ultra Moon while catching up on episodes of the Pokemon Sun and Moon: Ultra Adventures anime I missed, but right now I’m playing Xenoblade Chronicles X, so it probably won’t be until I’m back in university for the next semester as to when I start it.

I've been extremely busy these past few months, but now that I'm kinda in a state to be able to do Nuzlocke updates, I did fail my Platinum Randomizer Nuzlocke a while back. However, I was thinking of starting a new challenge soon. As for which game, I'm not sure, but I will think about it over the next few days. However, I was thinking of doing a Wedlocke this time, which if you don't know, it has the basic Nuzlocke rules, but Pokemon fight in pairs and Pokemon must fight alongside their partners in battle. If a partner Pokemon dies in battle, you have to either finish that fight with it's partner or said Pokemon must suffer the same fate. If said Pokemon survives, it will need to be paired with a Pokemon in the PC or a newly caught wild Pokemon as soon as possible. If you're curious to hear more, here's a good ruleset and explanation. But anyway, that's probably what I'll do, I just gotta figure out what game I'm playing and go from there.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing the updates on it. :)

Well, I'm doing a Pokemon Crystal Clear Wedlocke. If you don't know, Crystal Clear is an open-world ROM hack of Pokemon Crystal. Yes, you heard me right. Open-world. Every non-optional area is nearly completely open to you from the start. You can challenge any of the 16 Gyms of Kanto and Johto in any order you want, the levels of wild Pokemon and trainer Pokemon will vary depending on how many badges you have. There's also like 23 or 24 starters to choose from. If you wanna know more, here's a good video on it. Anyway, I went with Squirtle, but it unfortunately died while I was grinding. Same happened to a Tangela I caught on Route 21. I did do more grinding with my one and only pair for now though, Poliwag and Rattata. Currently sitting in Viridian City and thinking about where to go next.

Current Pokemon Crystal Clear Team & Pairs (0/16 Badges) :
- Hermoine the female Rattata, Lv. 10, and Alphonse the male Poliwag, Lv. 10
- Percy the male Hoothoot, Lv. 3 (unpaired)

Deaths:
- Leo the male Squirtle, Lv. 8
- Knotsy the female Tangela, Lv. 3

Wow, that sounds really interesting as a challenge. Here’s hoping you’ll do well on it!

An update on my Pokemon Ultra Moon Wonderlocke. I started it the other day and just now beat the first trial. I chose Rowlet as my starter, caught an Inkay, and wonder traded them both away for a Crabrawler and Pawniard. I then caught another Pokemon on route 2 and wonder traded it away for an Espeon. Pawniard has been the star of my team so far (and will come in handy later against Ultra Necrozma if I’m able to keep it alive). Totem Raticate didn’t stand a chance against Pawniard and I taught Pawniard Brick Break in order to win. Now I’m taking a break for now before heading to route 3.

Pokemon Ultra Moon Wonderlocke (1/8 trials complete) (0/4 grand trials complete):
- Pawniard level 17
- Crabrawler level 19
- Espeon level 23

Deaths:

- N/A

I updated the first post as well with a list of the completed challenges posted in this thread thus far. :)

Well, I kinda failed my Crystal Clear Nuzlocke as soon as it began. Not like it'd matter much, I was more or less focused on beating Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc anyway, so progress was gonna be slow even if I didn't fail. I did start a Randomized Nuzlocke in Pokemon Black, though. I had my choice of Exeggcute, Unfezant, and Watchog (eww), but in the end I went with Unfezant, which I named Tom. Caught a Squirtle on Route 1 which I named Mako, decided to grind for a bit, made it to Accumula Town, battled and defeated N, made it to Route 2 and caught a Plusle which I named Maddy. Currently sitting in Accumula Town and I'm gonna try to grind with Plusle and the rest of my party before I progress.

Pokemon Black Team (0 Badges) :
- Maddy the Female Plusle, Level 4
- Mako the Male Squirtle, Level 8
- Tom the Male Unfezant, Level 8

Deaths:
N/A

Well, I ended up ending my Wonderlocke Challenge on Ultra Moon because it was kind of boring to be honest. Already played through the 7th gen four or five times and I didn’t really feel like traversing through the games another time. I probably will be getting things done on my Ultra Sun file like beating The Battle Tree and completing the national Pok?dex (for once, lmao), but I don’t know when I’ll be doing another one of these challenges. Not much time for one right now anyway.

Whoops, double posted.

BUMP.

Thought I would bump this and start a new challenge before this thread has a chance to die.

So I’m doing a combination of a single challenge and a character challenge, except I traded for the one Pokemon I’m going to be using, which is Zeraora (from my Ultra Sun to my Ultra Moon file that I just started). Since my Ultra Sun file’s MC is already named Riley I decided to name my Ultra Moon file’s MC Volkner in a homage to the fourth generation of games. I’m also going to have fun with it by trying to make him actually look like Volkner. This will be the last time I play through the 7th gen Pokemon main games and is also partially due to me wanting to have access to Ultra Moon-exclusive post-game legendaries and stuff, so I can trade them to my main file and work on completing my Pok?dex. I just started with Volkner and Zeraora at the trainer’s school, and I won’t have much time except for maybe part of the weekends to play this file, but I’ll post updates here every time I complete a trial or grand trial. I think the early game should be really easy since Zeraora’s level is 50, but then the late game I imagine will become more difficult. Looking forward to having fun with this. :)

I decided to start up another Nuzlocke run on Omega Ruby tonight. So far...the results have been mixed.

Current team:
Lv 15 Male Torchic named Rambo.
Lv 11 Male Zigzagoon named Zigs (THE RETURN, PART III).
Lv 13 Male Poochyena named Excelsior (another return).
Lv 9 Male Nincada named Baron.
Lv 11 Male Dustox named Don.
Lv 7 Male Tailow named The Word.

Gyms complete: 1

Deaths:
Poison the Female Shroomish.
Orleans the Male Wingull.

My team has the potential to be interesting, at least. Both Excelsior and Zigs make their triumphant return. Excelsior has the egg move Ice Fang, so that may be super intriguing as the game progresses. Poison, unfortunately, had to be a sacrifice to keep Excelsior alive during the initial Team Magma Grunt encounter. Orleans, who I was banking on being my check to Roxanne since my team was at a type disadvantage to her was absolutely annihilated by her Rock Tomb Geodude after failing to kill it with Water Gun. Honestly the only reason I survived was because Excelsior was able to Sand Attack her Nosepass to blindness while she and I alternated between Howl and Harden. If he didn't have Ice Fang, I would have had practically nothing to counter her. I definitely should have evolved Torchic to Combusken before the battle, but oh well.

I'm excited for Nincada too. I have a feeling Shedinja will be wholly useless, but honestly it'll be fun to try and use it should Baron survive long enough to evolve.

After the earlier issues, this Nuzlocke run has started to stabilize. While there has been a sad death, it's moving swimmingly now.

Current team:
Lv 34 Male Combusken named Rambo.
Lv 32 Male Linoone named Zigs.
Lv 31 Male Mightyena named Excelsior.
Lv 28 Male Ninjask named Baron.
Lv 30 Male Dustox named Don.
Lv 16 Female Geodude named Poprocks. (Roster fill-in that I'm training on the off chance disaster strikes).

Bench:
Lv 21 Male Tailow named The Word.
Lv 19 Male Roselia named Hawethorne.
Lv 20 Machop named Stallone.

Gyms complete: 4

Deaths:
Poison the Female Shroomish.
Orleans the Male Wingull.
Shinobi the Shedninja. :(

The rival battle on route 110 that nuked my last Nuzlocke run was, this time, an absolute breeze. While Marshtomp didn't present anywhere near as much of a threat as the Combusken of old, I still decided to set up to such a point that there was absolutely no chance of danger. Against May's Slugma, Excelsior used Howl at least 5 times, ensuring that he would absolutely annihilate Marshtomp the next turn. The next couple of hours went on without a hitch, with multiple party members evolving. Baron, in particular, turned into Ninjask; giving rise to Shinobi the Shedinja. Now, I know using a Shedinja in a Nuzlocke is a massive risk, but I figured it would be a lot of fun to give it a try. Unfortunately, that fun was rather short lived. While Zigs managed to steal a Focus Band from a Machop, I decided to put it on Rambo as opposed to Shinobi due to the danger my run would be in if Rambo was annihilated.

As such, Shinobi was utterly wrecked by a Wailmer using Rollout. Ho-hum.
Edit: On the bright side, dupe clause allowed me to get one of my target Pokemon! Riptide the Carvanha is about to be trained up as my water coverage. :')

The Elite Four this run was, unfortunately, not as clean as the last.

Survivors:
Lv 59 Male Linoone named Zigs.
Lv 59 Male Mightyena named Excelsior.
Lv 57 Male Ninjask named Baron.

Dead:
Poison the Female Shroomish.
Orleans the Male Wingull.
Shinobi the Shedninja.
Don the Dustox.
Rambo the Blaziken.
Riptide the Sharpedo.

After breezing through the rest of the gyms, my team was ready for the Elite Four. Victory Road, as a whole, didn't pose much of a threat except a point where Excelsior almost got critical hit by a Kingdra. This, as I will write later, would have been disastrous for this run. Wally was overall a breeze as well, with Zigs sweeping most of his team before Rambo took care of Gallade. The Elite Four against Sidney started brutally, with Don getting critical hit by Absol's Psycho Cut. Death. Rambo, who I was wanting to save for the next matches, came in and swept the rest of his team. Phoebe and Glacia soon followed. Since Excelsior was my only Pokemon that could cover Dragons, he was up to the plate. While Altaria repeatedly Moonblasted him into red (thank goodness no crits), he was able to set up Howl and essentially sweep with Ice Fang.

Against Steven, I was feeling confident. Excelsior set up a bit versus Skarmory and was able to down it. Unfortunately, it was hit with Toxic and I had to retreat. Against Aggron, however, everything started to collapse. Rambo tried to set up as a Mega, and things were going peachy...until I missed my Sky Uppercut. I could survive a single Earthquake, but the miss allowed him to hit a second. Death. Losing Rambo brought about serious doubts for me. His fire attacks were what I had planned to defeat Steven with. Without them, what could I do? Both Zigs and Baron were strong, but they weren't built to fight Steel. It was up to Excelsior, who had survived death numerous times. Since his defenses were fairly decent, I decided to spam double team until practically nothing could touch me. Afterwards, after Howling my attack to max, I proceeded to attack. Aggron survived for a couple full restores due to Sturdy before falling, and one-by-one each of Steven's 'Mons fell to a combo of ice fang and crunch. Victory.

Like last time I will continue until the end of Delta Episode, but this Nuzlocke can be considered a victory. It was Pyrrhic, but a victory nonetheless.
