Pokémon The Pokémon Challenge Thread

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but all spectacular runs must come to an end eventually. Last update on my Pokemon Diamond Nuzlocke challenge.

Trainer: Riley

Deaths:

Brain the female Meditite (level 23)
Brisk the male Snover (level 38)
Bliss the female Floatzel (level 42)
Brawn the male Golem (level 42)
Brave the male Staraptor (level 43)
Brash the female Girafarig (level 42)
Brawl the male Lucario (level 38)
Beaks the female Pelipper (level 45)
Blaze the male Infernape (level 47)

Gym badges: 7

I made it through Route 222 and battled every trainer there, and Blaze and Beaks both got to level 45. I then made it to Sunyshore City and did everything I could do there. Then I challenged the gym, and Beaks died about halfway through due to a Mr. Mime’s Thunderbolt. I made it to Volkner with just Blaze at level 47, and challenged him. I almost beat him too. But in a heated battle his Luxray got a critical hit on its Thunder Fang attack and Blaze died, proving that I had lost too many Pokemon to continue. I had a lot of fun with this over break and it’s officially the furthest I’ve ever made it in a generation four Nuzlocke challenge. I’m not sure when I’ll be doing another challenge again as I’m pretty content for now with my win in Omega Ruby last year. When I do decide to start up a new challenge though, I’ll be sure to post it here. :)

BLACKOUT

Back for another update. Nothing too special this time though.

Trainer: Andrew

Team:
- Meme the male Marshtomp, Lv. 30
- Bullwinkle the male Golem, Lv. 30
- Snoop the male Gloom, Lv. 31
- Batgirl the female Golbat, Lv. 32
- Miss Piggy the female Grumpig, Lv. 32
- Wednesday the male Camerupt, Lv. 33

Deaths since last update:
- Ms. Saturn the female Breloom, Lv. 31

Gym Badges: 5/8

Well, I made sure to grind until all my Pokemon were at least Level 29 for Norman's gym. Leading with Ms. Saturn, I went in and managed to take out most of the gym with no real issue. However, the battle with Norman was challenging. Specifically due to his Slaking. I had almost taken it out with Ms. Saturn when it used Counter on my Mach Punch and killed Ms. Saturn. I was able to luckily defeat him without losing any more Pokemon though. With the new badge in hand, I was able to get Surf from Wally's father, so now a lot more of the region is available to me. With that, I make my way back to Mauville City and decide to exchange Wormothy for Batgirl. Wormothy's been a big help to me this entire journey and she's saved me on multiple occasions, and I'm surprised she's lasted this long, but I figured I would probably be better off with Zubat for now. I also make sure to put Ms. Saturn in the death box and add Snoop to the party. I make sure to do some grinding with both of them and get them both to evolve into a Golbat and Gloom respectively. I then take on the New Mauville sidequest and catch a Magnemite in the process, which I named Deltron. During this sidequest, Wednesday evolved into a Camerupt. Finally, with that done, I have to go through Route 118. I accidentally kill my encounter here, but that's fine - it was just a Kecleon. On Route 119, I encountered a...Zigzagoon. Isn't it a bit too late to be giving me Zigzagoons, game? Anyway, I'm currently sitting on Route 119 next to the Weather Institute. I'll take on Team Aqua at the Weather Institute and more next time.

Bump.

Well, my run came to a stop last night. I whited out against Winona.

I don't feel like going too into detail about what lead up to this point, maybe I'll edit all that in later, I dunno. Anyway, I'm probably taking a break from Nuzlocking for awhile, but I might do a Monotype challenge.

Can someone explain the nuzlocke challenge to me? c:

To put it basically, you are allowed to catch the first pokemon you encounter on every route. Those are the only pokemon you are allowed to use during your playthrough of the game. The big catch is that if a pokemon faints you consider it "dead" and cannot use it anymore. And to make the game more fun/give you a connection to your pokemon you should give them all nicknames! Some people do themes like "foods, or five letter words starting with B, plants" stuff like that.

Thank you! :D I looked it up too, as I was curious after reading your post. Do you all play with any optional rules? Or just the core Nuzlocke rules? I'm contemplating trying it out...

When I played I allowed myself to use 1 healing item per pokemon, per battle. Otherwise, it was pretty vanilla for me! One of my favorite YouTubers, Marriland, made a different version of the Nuzlocke called the Wedlock that pairs up gendered pokemon. He's also done a ton of different playthroughs/rules videos if you ever get a little confused c:

Ok, hmm interesting! There are so many options out there @_@ which game did you play the challenge on? I love Marriland! I used to use his guides while he was still making them! The wedlock - that is adorable xD I'll have to check-out his videos. Thank you for all of the info!

I didn't post about it here, but I did a Nuzlocke on my copy of Pokemon Black! Generation 5 is my absolute favorite of all time <3 I'm thinking about doing another one on my copy of White.

I'll have to dig through all of my older copies to see what I have xD I think I have Diamond/Pearl but neither Black/White (2)... Does anyone play it on the newer games, like X/Y or the (Ultra) Suns/Moons?

Yeah, a lot of people attempt Nuzlockes in the newer games. In fact, X and Y spawned another alternative to the main Nuzlocke called the Wonderlocke, which has the same general rules of the Nuzlocke at it's core, but you have to Wonder Trade any wild Pokemon you catch. That's personally my favorite way to Nuzlocke the newer games, since it adds more randomness to the experience.

Oh, i read about that version! I do have X, so perhaps I'll try that! Thanks! :D

Started up a new Pokemon White 2 Nuzlocke challenge.

Trainer: Riley

Current team:

Gon the male Oshawott (level 10)
Biscuit the female Purrloin (level 4)

Deaths: N/A

Gym badges: 0

Started the game and got an eight as the last number on my trainer ID card, so I went with Oshawott. Then found out it was a male and decided to start naming my Pokemon team members after HunterxHunter characters. Gon?s nature is Jolly and the description is ?somewhat of a clown,? which definitely fits with the show, lmao. I then did everything I needed to in Aspertia City and ventured onto route 19, where I caught a first encounter female Purrloin, which I nicknamed Biscuit. I continued to Flocessy Town, route 20, and Flocessy Ranch, where I?ll stop for the night. Really looking forward to this challenge and seeing if I can get past all 8 gym badges and beat Ghetsis instead of losing to him like in the past. :D

Also, I changed the title of the thread to ?The Pokemon Challenge Thread?. Everyone and anyone is allowed to post the challenges they?re doing on Pokemon games here, whether it?s a Nuzlocke, Wonderlocke, solo run, or even a different type of challenge. I thought I should change that title to reflect that, and so I did.

I just beat Black, so I?ve decided to go in a Nuzlocke run for White 2 ^^

Starter is Oshawott, Bashful/female named Shoal. So far she?s been my only team member, because I?m picky as hell and early ?mons just haven?t lined up well xD But Shoal?s been doing great, just beat the first gym & is level 15 ^^

... I did kind of have to break the ?only allowed to catch the first on route? rule though... I ran into a shiny Sewaddleon the way out of town and I wasn?t letting that pass me by! XD

- - - Post Merge - - -

That said, he’s just gonna be boxed to go up to gen6 later, as fun as it would be, he was caught strictly because of rarity and isn’t joining the team.

Started a solo-run of Pokemon Crystal a few weeks ago. Specifically, with a Rattata. I'm currently sitting in Ilex Forest (yeah, I've been lazy with how much progress I've made) and next time I play, I want to make it to Goldenrod City and maybe even take on the gym there. But for now, here's some stats.

Trainer: Joey

Gym Badges: 2/16

Pokemon:
Male Rattata, Lv. 21
Held Item: Everstone
Moves:
- Mud-Slap
- Focus Energy
- Quick Attack
- Hyper Fang

Nice! Make sure to keep us updated on your challenge! :)

Could you say, with certain clarity and assuredness, that your Rattata is in the top 10 % of Rattatas? ;)

Anyway, my previous challenge didn’t go so well and I blacked out on it, so I decided to simply restart the Pokemon White 2 Nuzlocke I planned on doing and it’s been going really well so far.

Trainer: Riley

Current team:

Gon the male Servine (level 21)
Biscuit the female Liepard (level 21)
Mr. Leorio the male Tranquill (level 21)
Killua the Magnemite (level 21)

Deaths: N/A

Gym badges: 2

Started the game and got a 0 as my last number in my trainer ID card, so I went with a random number generator set between 1-9 online, and it picked 1, therefore I chose Snivy as my starter and nicknamed him Gon (yes, I’m still naming my team after HunterxHunter characters this time around). I faced my rival and they got a critical hit in the battle, but I survived and took Hugh’s Tepig out with a critical hit. I then went on to route 19 and caught a first encounter female Purrloin, which I nicknamed Biscuit. Trained Gon some and made it to Flocessy Town, and then went to route 20 and caught a first encounter male Pidove, which I nicknamed Mr. Leorio. Continued on to Flocessy Ranch and had the chance to catch a first encounter Azurill, but killed it on accident with a critical hit Wrap from Gon. I then beat my rival again, once again with a critical hit to win it. I found the lost Herdier, left, and made my way back to Aspertia City eventually to take on the gym. Defeated Cheren without losing anyone by playing smart and disciplined this time around. I then traveled to Virbank City whilst battling trainers, and then caught a first encounter Magnemite in the Virbank City Complex, which I nicknamed Killua. I then spent a good portion of the day today training all four of them with Audino training, and they all reached level 21. Gon had evolved into a Servine, Biscuit into a Liepard, and Mr. Leorio into a Tranquill. I then finally faced the second gym just now and took care of both trainers and Roxie easily, winning my second gym badge. Now I’m going to take a break for a little bit before continuing on to Castelia City and everything it has to offer. Looking forward to it. :)

It’s rough and tumble time, and an update on my Pokemon White 2 Nuzlocke challenge! :)

Trainer: Riley

Current team:

Gon the male Servine (level 25)
Biscuit the female Liepard (level 25)
Mr. Leorio the male Tranquill (level 26)
Killua the Magnemite (level 25)
Kurapika the male Conkeldurr (level 26)

Waiting in the wings (reserves):

Menchi the female Sandile (level 15)

Deaths: N/A

Gym badges: 3

Went to Pok?star Studios and participated in a movie, and made it look good as well. Then I chased Team Plasma with Hugh and co. and once they fled, followed them to Castelia City. Explored everything Castelia City has to offer, and faced Team Plasma again in the sewers. Then went ahead to route 4 and caught a first encounter female Sandile, which I nicknamed Menchi after one of the first Hunter examiners in the Hunter Exam of HunterxHunter. Put her in reserves in the PC box because I really don’t want two dark types on my team right now. Went to Relic Passage past the Castelia Sewers and caught a first encounter male Timburr, which I nicknamed Kurapika. Ended up finishing exploring Castelia City and Audino trained my team all the way up to level 25, where Kurapika evolved into a Gurdurr. Then I started a file on my Pokemon Black 2 version and got past the first gym point so I could trade Kurapika back and forth to have a Conkeldurr for my team. I then faced the Castelia City gym and beat all the trainers easily. Faced Burgh and beat him as well. Leorio took out his Swadloon, Killua took out his Dwebble, and Leorio took out his Leavanny in one shot with a critical hit Air Cutter thanks to Leorio’s ability, Super Luck, and the held item Scope Lens. Now that I have my third gym badge, I’m headed north to Nimbasa City and to face Colress in battle for the first time. So far this challenge has started off really well for me. Looking forward to seeing how far I can get on it. :)

An update on my Pokemon White 2 Nuzlocke challenge.

Trainer: Riley

Current team:

Gon the male Servine (level 30)
Biscuit the female Liepard (level 30)
Mr. Leorio the male Unfezant (level 32)
Killua the Magneton (level 30)
Kurapika the male Conkeldurr (level 31)
Melody the female Pinsir (level 30)

Waiting in the wings (reserves):

Menchi the female Sandile (level 15)
Pakunoda the female Sigilyph (level 19)
Kortopi the male Yamask (level 21)

Deaths: N/A

Gym badges: 4

Headed north and faced Colress in battle, winning easily. Then I explored all of route 4, the Desert Resort, and the Relic Castle. Caught first encounters of a female Sigilyph at the Desert Resort, which I nicknamed Pakunoda of the HunterxHunter’s Phantom Troupe, and a first encounter male Yamask in the Relic Castle, which I nicknamed Kortopi after another member of HunterxHunter’s Phantom Troupe. I then continued on to Nimbasa City, explored all of it, the route next to it, and caught a first encounter female Pinsir in Lostlorn Forest, which I nicknamed Melody after one of the Nostrade family bodyguards alongside Kurapika in HunterxHunter. Added Melody to complete my team, but it’s not final, as I’ll switch out Pokemon for better ones as I progress throughout the challenge. Audino trained everyone to level 30 and then took on the Nimbasa City gym, easily taking care of all the trainers by playing carefully. I then faced Elesa, the gym leader, in battle and took out her Emolga with two ThunderShocks from Killua, who had evolved into a Magneton by this time. Then I switched to Kurapika for her Zebstrika and fainted it one hit with Dig. Switched to Gon finally for her Flaaffy, and used a combination of Leech Seed, Wrap, and Vine Whips to whittle her Flaaffy’s health down to zero and win my fourth gym badge for the challenge. No one has died yet still, thankfully, and I’m looking forward to continuing the rest of the challenge later on.

EDIT: Just fought against Team Plasma in Nimbasa City with Hugh and Mr. Leorio. Then went and fought an Audino and Liepard to finish getting Mr. Leorio to level 31, and used a rare candy on him from Anville Town to get him to level 32 and evolve him into an Unfezant. Now Gon and Killua are the only ones on the team who still have evolutions waiting for them. :)

Update on the Rattata solo-run: it's on hold for now. I plan to continue it eventually, it's just that Riley inspired me to start a new Nuzlocke run, so I'm doing that. Specifically in Pokemon X. I made quite a bit of progress last night. First, I had to pick my starter. The last number on my trainer card ID was 5, so I went with Fennekin which I named Yasuhiro (btw, I'm going for a Danganronpa theme with my names here). After this came the first rival battle, but I won it because it's so easy in this game. I'm going to skip over some of the more mundane story details, in which there's a lot in X and Y, especially at the start. Once I finally get to try and catch a Pokemon on Route 2, I accidentally kill it by mistake. I do the same in Santalune Forest, but I arrive on Route 3 and catch an Azurill which I name Ryoma. I finally arrive in Santalune and check out the route next to the city. I caught a Litleo here, which I named Hiroko and boxed it because I already have a fire type on my team. Up next is grinding for the gym, which I do and make sure I get all of my Pokemon to a reasonable level. I thought my levels were reasonable, that is, until I fight the gym leader and somehow I'm barely making a dent into her Vivillon with Flame Charge. I still defeat her with no deaths, although I had to burn through a lot of Potions in the process. On the bright side, Yasuhiro evolved into a Braixen during this battle. I now have the Roller Skates, which I forgot to mention earlier, as well as the EXP Share. From here, it's a (mostly straightforward trip to Lumiose City, although I do encounter and catch a Flabebe in the process. I name it Hiyoko and send it to reserves as well because I don't need it right now. Finally, I arrive at Prof. Sycamore's Lab, have a battle with him and defeat him (again, with no deaths) and I'm able to pick a Kanto starter, so I pick a Bulbasaur which I name Hifumi.

Pokemon Y Nuzlocke Challenge:

Trainer: Andrew

Badges: 1/8

Team:
- Hifumi the male Bulbasaur, Lv. 10
- Ryoma the male Azurill, Lv. 14
- Yasuhiro the male Braixen, Lv. 16

Reserves:
- Hiroko the female Litleo, Lv. 6
- Hiyoko the female Flabebe, Lv. 9

Alright, so bump. A *lot* happened since last update. I'll try to cover everything as quickly as possible, skimming over any non-important details and spending a little bit more time talking about important stuff. Before we begin, a few of my Pokemon got name changes, and my team below as well as my list of deaths will reflect that.

Pokemon X Nuzlocke:

Trainer: Andrew

Badges: 2/8

Team:
Hiyoko the female Floette, Lv. 27
Nagito the male Ivysaur, Lv. 26
Yasuhiro the male Braixen, Lv. 28
Monokuma the male Cubone, Lv. 16 (formerly in reserves but I just took him out, which is why he's so underleveled)

Reserves:
Hiroko the female Litleo, Lv. 6

Deaths:
Ryoma the male Azurill, Lv. 18
Seiko the female Gulpin, Lv. 21
Hifumi the male Snorlax, Lv. 17
Kokichi the male Drifloon, Lv. 19
Daisaku the male Hippopotas, Lv. 25
Nagisa the male Amaura, Lv. 25

So, I continued where I left off in Lumiose City, did all the important stuff there, head on over to Route 5 and I catch a Gulpin. I can't remember what I named it initially but I do remember changing it, so let's just call it Seiko because that's what I changed it to. Make it to Camphrier Town, do all the important stuff there, get my Route 6 encounter, which is a Honedge but I kill it by accident. Not much I can do there, so I continue to grind and do all the important stuff at Parfum Palace afterwards. I get the Pokeflute, awaken Snorlax and catch it, and since I renamed my Ivysaur, I'm able to name Snorlax Hifumi. I also make sure to get an encounter from Route 7 since Snorlax was a static encounter, but I do end up killing it. Now I have to fight the rivals before going through Connecting Cave, which I do win without any casualties. Make it through Connecting Cave, I do get an encounter here but I killed it again by accident as well. So now I'm at Route 8, where I encounter a Drifloon which I caught and named Kokichi. I make my journey through the cliffsides to Ambrette Town where I heal and make my way over to Route 9, where I caught a Hippopotas which I named Daisaku. Now it's on to Glittering Cave where I caught a Cubone which I named Monokuma, but it did end up killing my Azurill, Ryoma in the process. Take care of everything I need to do here, battle with Team Flare and make sure to get one of the fossils. I pick the Sail Fossil, then make it back to Ambrette Town. I finally arrive in Cyllage City and then attempt to get an encounter on Route 10, which is a Golett, but it ends up killing both Seiko and Hifumi. Kokichi died somewhere around here as well, I'm not sure when though. Anyway, I spend the time after this grinding and trying to get my team rebuilt and up to par. Once I feel everyone's up to par, I challenge Grant. I ended up losing Daisaku and Nagisa during the gym challenge, but I somehow managed to keep my remaining party members alive. I'm now sitting in the Cyllage City Pokemon Center, getting ready to progress and attempt to sorta rebuild a little bit.
