Extra Food for Thought (optional, of course!);
What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?
What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?
Do you use free trials often?
Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?

I piggyback my subscriptions (share a Nintendo Online membership & Netflix).

Accidentally have Amazon Prime right now because I forgot to cancel my free trial

Previously had a subscription to Crunchyroll and Pocket Camp when I played daily. Was great when I couldn't play during the day and came home to having all the gyroids picked up for the event. Meeting all the goals would have been impossible otherwise

I leech off of a lot of family members for things like Netflix and Disney+, although I do have Prime Video and Crave (forgot to cancel the free trial last month). I also have an NSO membership but it’s so inexpensive I don’t even think about it. I think the only other thing I use is Spotify.

I have considered some boxed meal subscriptions too like Hello Fresh but it seems like a lot of money for a little bit of convenience.

I pretty much just have the annual NSO membership, which I pool together the funds with my partner on a family plan.

What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?
- Prime Video, Disney+ (not available where I live RIP in peace), Loot Crate, Chewy, Stitch Fix, Hello Fresh, BarkBox,. . . many of these things are ~*~not available in my region~*~ or cannot be shipped as well. And if they do ship here, the s&h tacked on is exorbitant and in the case of subscription boxes, they don't arrive on time. So it defeats the point of a monthly box when we get them mid-way or at the end of each month. Womp womp.

What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?
- Maybe a bimonthly custom design sock subscription box because I'm tired of not having matching pairs of plain black socks. I think the boxes/services available have preset options. I want to design every last bit of the socks from the texture, density, color, etc. So, Threadless, get on it. :lemon:

Do you use free trials often?
- Not as much as I used to because I don't have the patience to continually unsubscribe from the inevitable special offer to reel me back in for a paid subscription. Targeted marketing emails en masse eventually get on my nerves lol

Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?
- Kawaii Box. I also did the free trial of YouTube Red to watch one of the exclusive documentaries on it.

Answers for food for thought:
- I'm interested in podcasting, I think it's similar to radio service but I haven't gotten to using it yet
- Nothing comes to mind at the moment for things I would like that doesn't exists currently.
- I don't use free trial often but I do if I want to test or try out an application or game.

I keep a record of my subscriptions to monitor when the subscriptions will roll over and I won't be surprised by an unexpected charge in my credit card bill.

My current subscriptions:
ExpressVPN (annually) - A virtual private network service for safe browsing.
LinkedIn (annually) - An employment-oriented online service and social media platform (only started this subscription recently).
Malwarebytes (annually) - An anti-malware software that finds and removes malware.
Spotify (monthly) - A Swedish music streaming application.

Shared subcriptions:
Shared Netflix with my sister and her husband.

Previous subscriptions:
Tsuki Adventure - A cute mobile game.
E-newspapers.

I've had a fair share of gaming subscriptions in the past but as I aged, I've gotten less and less time to game. I can't remember a lot of subscriptions I used to have at the back of my head

I only have 4 subscriptions on the go currently, and honestly it could be a lot worse because I do be looking at hulu and funimation 👀. In order of importance (at least to me) they are Amazon Prime, Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Nintendo Switch Online. I try not to really buy any subscriptions unless I know for sure i'm gonna be using them for the full length of time i'm purchasing them for, because I know they suck up quite a lot of your money if you're not careful.

For subscription services i'd like to see, honestly a loot box or something similar that is completely dedicated to fizzy drinks and other sodas like ramune. While I like food, if you a gave me a choice between an ice cold can of coca cola and a slice of chocolate cake, i'd probably eat them both choose the coca cola. While I have ordered a japanese sweets box before, and I did enjoy it, I honestly would've preferred if it was just a box full of ramune and grape soda haha. Wait now i'm thirsty and hungry ;-; 😩

I don't really like to use free trials since they feel a bit dodgy to me, and the only time i've ever used one (if this even counts) is the free 6 month trial I got for amazon prime because I was a student in college. Although even that wasn't really a trial, since i'm pretty sure I could just cancel it after the free 6 months were over.

I pretty much have a NSO subscription, a VRV subscription, an Amazon Prime subscription, Discord subscription, and that’s it.

What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?

Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, etc. I really don’t see a need for these for myself.

What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?

Honestly, nothing comes to mind. I have everything I need for now.

Do you use free trials often?

As often as possible.

Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?

Gaming subscriptions, as I don’t like that format anymore.

Also, Funimation. I got that specifically for the dub of My Hero Academia, and then cancelled it once I finished it. May get it again in the future if there‘s another dub for a show I want to watch. Who knows.

Bonus: I really wanted a crunchyroll subscription, but they had issues with my card, so I never got around getting an account, I've also been interested in those food subscription boxes.... but it seems to create a lot of extra trash and plastic waste :/

Current subscriptions I pay for:
Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ (bundle)
Nintendo Switch Online
Amazon Prime (because it's cheaper for students so shout out to my university)

Shared subscriptions:
Spotify
Netflix (my phone company pays for it....)
Office 365 .-. most expensive subscription ever, again shout out to my university because I can access word though my school email

Previous subscriptions:
Kinder beauty box (vegan and cruelty free beauty products)
Loot crate (provides monthly boxes of geek- and gaming-related merchandise)

Office 365 .-. most expensive subscription ever, again shout out to my university because I can access word though my school email
I used my school email to access office 365 on my laptop for like another 2 years after I finished college lmao (after that I forgot the email and password because I have a small brain ;-;). Savour it while you can because once it goes away, it becomes very annoying to make CV's on the 'free' version of word or the browser version T_T.

It was so disappointing as a uni student to know that my uni did not have the Office 365 subscription available. So I asked for Office for Mac as a birthday (or Christmas, can't remember exactly) gift from my dad. e________e Ugh.

Now I use Libre Office and Google Drive since I have a new laptop and refuse to pay for Office 365.

Nintendo Online which I paid for the year. Nothing else. I always try to go free whenever I can to save money.

Nintendo Online.
YouTube Premium.
Crunchyroll.
NordVPN.
Tidal.
And probably some more that I'm blanking on.

I wouldn't mind paying for a good streaming service, but I don't feel like bothering with setting my TV up with a VPN, and then having to switch it constantly, so rip.

I had libre office before my university went to office.... but none of my professors were ever able to open my files... I forgot what I did instead, but they weren't too happy about it.... maybe I was saving the file with the wrong extension but idk 🤷‍♀️ I think I "treated" myself to an annual subscription because of this issue, but thankfully I didn't have to renew because we transferred over. Yeah! I think google drive is the way to go if you don't have Office!

Yeah maybe you weren't exporting/saving the file in the proper format. I used it while working from home then sent the documents to my boss via email. Some formatting can get messed up if you aren't careful but other than that, no issues or concerns voiced by my boss.

Google Drive is such a lifesaver. It sucks that you even had to "treat" yourself to that subscription previously though, that's so backwards but at least things are sorted out now.

I use a lot of streaming services because I don't pay for regular cable/satellite TV. I currently have Netflix, Hulu+, VRV, Disney+ and DC Universe. DC is mainly for my husband, though.

What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?

Amazon Prime, Japanese Snack Boxes

What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?

I'm desperately trying to find a decent streaming service for sports that allows my husband and I to follow our favorite teams but doesn't break the bank.

Do you use free trials often?

No, I typically only use the free trials to save some money on subscriptions that I know I want and will continue to pay for. I don't like to have to remember to cancel things before I get charged.

Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?

Crunchyroll, which I cancelled when I got VRV because it's included.

Funimation, which I cancelled because the service was so bad. The videos were so choppy they were almost unwatchable.

HBO Now, which I got just to watch the final season of Game of Thrones mostly utilizing the free trial period and then cancelled it afterwards.

NFL GamePass, which I tried out for one season but cancelled immediately afterwards because I didn't like having to wait to watch the games (it was hard with my work schedule if it was a late game) and the video quality/functionality was very poor sometimes.

Netflix DVD service, which eventually died out.

Easton Press, 100 Greatest Book Ever Written collection. I got 1 book a month until I completed the collection.

Easton Press, First Edition Library collection. It included reproductions of classic books with their first edition covers. I got 1 book a month until I completed the collection.

Columbia House. I doubt most people here will remember this, but this was how I built up my CD collection when cassette tapes died out.

Current subscriptions:
Switch online, animal jam on the occasion, fortnite (not sure if that one really counts)

What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?
Ooooh I love japanese snack boxes, kawaii box, and stuff like that. Unfortunately they're kinda spendy sometimes. I would also love to have spotify premium cause they're ads are aggravating, but again spendy.

What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?
No ideas really.

Do you use free trials often?
Eeeeh depends on what it is, but no not really.

Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?
I used to be subscribed to gameinformer, but then they went digital. Now I use my old collection for stuff to hang up or glue down into a notebook.

i currently only have netflix, disney plus (though i never use this) and nintendo online - the only one i pay for is nintendo online as i piggyback netflix and disney plus with my mom and grandmother.

What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?

snack box subscriptions, definitely - whether it’s the boxes where you’ll get loads of snacks from other countries or just random snacks in general, i’ve always found these to be quite interesting and sometimes enjoy watching people try the snacks from these boxes on youtube. if i wasn’t so broke half the time, i’d probably have a few of these subscriptions myself

What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?

i’m literally begging for something that’ll do my schoolwork for me LMAO. will likely never happen unless i personally pay someone but it’s nice to dream :p

Do you use free trials often?

not super often, no. i believe the last free trial i had was for Youtube Red Premium last year just so i could watch one (1) series on there j’m still mad that wayne got cancelled smh

Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?

mainly just a bunch of games that i was interested in for about a week and then lost interest in. the most recent one was Cat Game - i was interested in it for about a month or so and even bought packs + the vip membership for it but lost interest in it earlier this year lmao. and i can’t forget all the childhood games i used to play - moshi monsters, moviestarplanet and the likes :p

Currently my subscriptions really only consist of Hulu (so I can watch King of the Hill) and the Nintendo Switch Online service. I'm not a fan of subscription services so I prefer to keep the amount I have at a minimum :p

I can't believe some of you be really paying for Disney+ 🤦‍♀️

  • Amazon Prime
  • Final Fantasy XIV Online
  • Google Play
  • Netflix
  • Nintendo Online
  • PlayStation Plus
  • World Anvil
I don't have a rolling subscription for PlayStation Now but will pay for access now and then, and I have a lifetime premium membership to PSN Profiles (cheaper than paying annually in the long-term). I pay an annual fee to a clothing website to get "free" next-day delivery (pays for itself within two orders). Don't know if it counts as a 'subscription', but I've a direct debit set-up to donate money each month to a wilderness conservation organisation.
