Subscriptions I have:
Spotify, Amazon Prime (currently on a free student trial), Nintendo Online, the Economist Magazine (print + digital subscription, student rate!), the New York Times (free through my uni)
I also have access to a shared family Netflix account, but I don't stream TV/movies all that often. I usually prefer YouTube, and that's free!
What are some you think are interesting concepts but don't use?
Lots of the item based subscription boxes. The boxes with Japanese snack food, about books, makeup, Disney merch, and more. I've always loved the idea of getting a surprise, but I could never justify the cost, especially when there's a big chance I'll get something I have no use for. Since I live in Canada, there's often an additional shipping fee on top of the price of the box that makes it too expensive to try.
Also, I love the idea of the Class Pass. In non-pandemic times, you can usually purchase a set amount of workouts a month, and can use them at any participating gym in the city or on participating online workouts! Paying for a subscription might motivate me to go, especially when you can take all sorts of fun Zumba or barre classes or whatnot. But, I looked into it before, and it was just way too pricy to justify, especially as someone who finds it pretty difficult to motivate myself to workout. As a beginner, it's probably a lot wiser to go with home workouts or to try cheaper plans at my local community centre or at my uni.
What would you like to have that doesn't exist currently?
I feel like most decent ideas exist on the market already! Maybe a super-personalized subscription box would be nice, a kind of service where you can choose most of the big items you want so that it's not a surprise. Most boxes I've seen might allow you do to some picking, but they won't let you customize everything.
Do you use free trials often?
If I plan to use the service anyways, yes. If not, no. I'm too paranoid to do it, especially with the pain of cancelling auto-renewing subscriptions (and especially with sketchy companies).
Subscriptions you used to have but no longer have?
My family used to have a subscription to a service called Texture, which gave you access to a bunch of digital magazines. It no longer exists though! My mom loved Reader's Digest, and I'd always read Girl's Life, Teen Vogue, and Seventeen.
