Their connection def. With how 'cheap' it is, I can go without extra bonuses (example, a PS4 membership ship is like 60$ BUT each month you get like 2 or 3 free games, and these aren't low tier games either). But for the love of all things, I am paying for the same cruddy connection I got with my 3DS with no bonuses. I don't consider cloud saves as a bonus cause Nintendo made their console like that to where dang near nothing actually saves on the console like it did with the 3DS. If my 3DS broke, I could take the game card and still play my game on a new console with nearly all my save data intact, with the exception of SD card stuff. I could take my SD card out and still have all my photos. I can't take my game card and put it in a new Switch with all game data saved on it.

I completely agree with you on this and I think Nintendo know it themselves, which is why they're so protective of their exclusives. AC is one of the very few Nintendo franchises I play, but it's my favourite of all and it's a game I know I get years out of. So it made more sense for me to buy a Switch instead of another console. But there's definitely games I'd love to play like The Last of Us and the new Resident Evil remakes. Thankfully some third party games have made it to the Switch at least and I'll get a chance to play/replay some older ported titles.
I'm with you with that! AC is my favourite Nintendo franchise so they have me locked with a shackle around my ankle. :c I got Stardew Valley on the Switch and it's fine for what I use it for. Maybe it's better on PC?

Other than AC, Kirby and Mario Kart, I honestly don't play many Nintendo games anymore so it's a shame I can't "officially" jump ship.

The lag... Last time I played Super Mario Maker 2 online, it was unplayable, since it would freeze every 1 second if someone else had a poor connection.

Thankfully they don't charge much for it but it's not at the point where they should be charging for a membership.

I've seen a couple mentioned already - cloud saves, dedicated servers. Having these would be the minimum base. The few discounts in the eShop (and there are occasionally good ones) are available to everyone. There's nothing exclusive for members and the service itself runs poorly. If my boyfriend didn't buy the family plan I wouldn't have it. 😅

Better cloud saves for all games would be nice at least, I don’t care about cheating because honestly Nintendo sucks at stopping that too so why punish the majority for the actions of the few. Pokemon, Splatoon 2, and until recently Animal Crossing were/are the saves I fear losing the most if my Switch just bricks one day. I know a lot of fans will say “Why are you complaining, it’s only 20 bucks a year” but that’s not an excuse for a mediorce service that does nothing to actually improve player experience. Wow cool, we get access to NES/SNES games with the only upside is that we don’t have to buy them again because let’s be honest, Nintendo totally would have required us to buy Super Mario Bros again instead of linking a license from Wii/3DS/Wii U to your Nintendo Network account.

To address this bit, I just want to say "only $20/year" is cheap compared to PS4 and Xbone's online services, but it's really not cheap when you take into consideration-

1) In its current state, I'd complain even if it were only $1/year. Even after two years, it simply isn't ready for consumer use, so charging any amount of money for it is honestly pretty insulting.

2) It's probably not the only paid subscription that most people have. If you're in the market for NSO, you're probably also in the market for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, as well as subscriptions for competing game consoles. We're in a market where every company is currently asking you to subscribe to their specific service, so chances are $20/year will force you to reevaluate your other purchases and subscriptions, even if it's not by much. And this is assuming you live alone or maybe with one another person who shares similar interests or pays for their own services. If you have kids or other family, then you probably have even more expenditures on top of that. (Though if you have children, you're probably going to be paying for Switch Online anyway, because they won't shut up about it!)

Yes, in a vacuum $20/year doesn't seem like a lot, but it's $20/year on top of additional expenditures.

Yeah, they really don't stop any of the cheating at all. People with homebrewed consoles can just distribute hacked goods in multiple games. Not to mention (as far as I know) Pokemon Sword and Shield really has no quality control for glitches so it's even more pointless to not allow backups. I also agree with people using the price excuse. I actually pay more for the family membership so it's a greater loss for me when they don't provide a quality service. The service on the 3DS and Wii U is nearly the same with no cost so of course people would be upset. Nintendo has done very little to improve the online in the amount of time and complaints people have made about it.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not refreshing my Switch Online next year when this round is up. I only bought it to trade with fellow ACNH players. Otherwise it's useless to me and it's just a ripoff considering how crap it is anyway.

I agree with all the others that have stated that they need dedicated servers. It's ridiculous that we have to pay them for them to let us use our own internet connection.

The difference between NSO and Xbox and PS is that Nintendo isn't giving us anything we don't already have. Like others have said, the other comparable services offer all of the options listed in the poll. Most people don't have NSO because they're happy with the service, they have it because they need it in order to get enjoyment out of games they already paid $60 for.

And about the free games.. I see some people voted on that so I was thinking about it. I know they are just extra's just like with the PS4/Xone, but is there anyone who actually play the old NES/SNES games? It's not very interesting to be honest.

I've started up The Legend of Zelda in the beginning for maybe 20 minutes and that's it. Would be great if they just gave away some bigger titles. And it does not even have to be every month. If they give a great title away every 3, 4 or even 6 months since Nintendo games are worth a lot more than PS4/Xone-games I would be happy with it. And not even the mayor Mario titels, Pokémon, Animal Crossing or Mario Kart (because they still sell good) but I think you can make a lot of people happy with games like Captain Toad, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Crafted World, Mario vs Rabbids just once in a while.

These games are extremely popular in the speedrunning community and continue to be widely played and celebrated to this day. So of course people actually play them.

The question is, do people play them on NSO? I mean, occasionally I see them played on Let's Play channels and the like, and there are some remixed versions of the games that are legitimately interesting. But for the most part, there are so many better, alternative ways to play that it's kind of silly to use them as an incentive. Anyone who seriously wants them need not waste money on a subpar service to play them.

Yes speedrunning but I think 99% of the Nintendo Switch Online users are not interested in speed runs. Just like most of the people will not even download NSO because how many times did we bought, played, downloaded these games on all the previous consoles/handhelds? Ok not all games but a lot. And we talk about 30 year old games haha. Even though I still can enjoy a game like lets say Super Mario World but it's not interesting to get it again for the don't-know-how-manyth time.

Just introduce the players to new games, new genres and new gameplay mechanics. Just give a good rpg and if some players like it they maybe even buy other games like Xenoblade :) But when playing NES/SNES rpg's it's all old, gameplay wise not always good and graphics is still something a lot of gamers look at and just let it go because of that.

Long story short: It's time for Nintendo to look into the future instead of always staying in the past. Nostalgia is fun, new stuff even more.
