What was the first anime you watched that got you into animes?

I haven't watched any anime in ages but when I did Steins Gate was the first one I watched and is still my favourite

Fullmetal alchemist: 2003 0 v0
which is funny, because I didn't like it at all the first time I saw it, but then got really into it and now I am weeb trash lol

I guess growing up in the 90's, Dragonball Z and Pokemon are the default answers...Though I never pursed anime based on those and looking back neither were particularly that great either.

I otherwise wouldn't really know. I watch anime the same as I watch any other TV show or movie. I don't treat it like it's some special third category like many others do.

Asking me what show got me into anime is like asking what show got me into live action shows: I dunno, there isn't one in particular, the premise just sounded interesting so I watched it.

Wow that is going way far back......

If I had to say one I would say One Piece probably. Always have been a fan of slow burning narratives.

I am with you there as far as growing up with DBZ and Pokemon. But I think the old ones are still the best.

i would definitely say that the simpsons was the anime that really got me into everything. now if you'll excuse me, i need to hug my homer simpson dakimakura pillow.

The ridiculous dubs of Pok?mon and Sailor Moon are the only animes I really watched as a kid. Still the only ones I really like lol (although I've since seen the original subtitled episodes of Sailor Moon, 1000000% improvement). I've watched like two other animes besides those so I'm not really into anime I guess! But I do like Ghibli movies.

There was a lot of anime playing on TV when I was growing up (dubbed in Korean) so it was easy getting into it, just like regular cartoons. Like.. Neon Genesis Evangelion, DBZ, Sailormoon, Conan, Ranma1/2, CCS, Dr. Slump, Magic Circle Guru Guru (god it took me a long time to find the english name of this) actually I don't remember the order I watched these but I remember watching most of them on TV before streaming sites. Ironically I didn't watch much pokemon even though I was into the cards and stuff. I did watch and was really into Digimon though. The first anime I streamed was probably a lot later when I watched Full Metal Alchemist with my brother. After that I probably binge watched a ton.

Definitely 90s english dub anime that was syndicated on tv. Stuff like the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Samurai Pizza Cats, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Ronin Warriors, The Big-O. Also watching Toonami really shaped my interest in anime overall to dig deeper into other series. Eventually, I got into a lot more violent anime like: Akira, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City. I think the late 80s and 90s were my golden ages of anime.

Nowadays, i'm out of the loop on a lot of anime. It just isn't the same to me anymore. But I still do watch some anime like Dragon Ball Super.

I don't really watch anime, but Shugo Chara was the first anime I ever watched. I was really into it for years when I was younger.

My very short lived "weeb" phase was in middle school, and it was started by FMA and Inuyasha. I really only ever watched those, a little bit of Bleach, and some Fruits Basket. And then got over my weeb phase, so I don't know if I'd consider them to have "kick started" anything.

Naruto was a big thing for me when I was like 12. The Naruto phase was an embarrassing part of my life, but it's what originally got me into anime.
