Who Else Time Travels?

I used to TT only when AC life got slow. Now I TT primarily to breed hybrids fast. I TT'd to July 3 and low and behold: Redd was there! If the update messes that up I will be furious

I feel like if I didn't TT I wouldn't be as avid an AC player. Back when I played Wild World I checked on my town everyday and did daily task but that was also running on little kid hours where I didn't have as much responsibility. Now I have a job that lets off later at night and would rarely be able to visit shops/ events if I couldn't set the clock back. I also like experiencing new things everyday, like new shop items and cycling out new villagers to meet.

I time travel because I just enjoy the game more that way. Overall I find it the most fun way for ME to play. But I respect the people that don’t as well

My thoughts EXACTLY. I never even thought that much about it until I realized some people got SUPER angry about it because it was just a way I played... which some people might not. But I didn't see how it was different from how some people care most about friendships with villagers, others focus on bugs and fish, and others want the most gorgeous house. I never imagined anyone would put a MORAL value on time traveling. Because it's just so silly!

I've been time traveling since WW, so it's always just been part of the games for me. I don't do any major jumps in time like I did as a kid, but I will go back and forth a day or so occasionally.
Yah, I used to time travel all over the year and stuff. My town was always A MESS but I played the game differently back then, and it didn't really bother me.

I don't have the patience to wait a whole day to move a building just for me to realize its off by a couple of squares and then having to move it again so I usually time travel for that purpose.
YES. That is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves right now... Why do we need to spend at least two days and 100k bells to move a house a couple of squares? I just moved Merry's, but now I've realized I wanna move it over a few squares. When all is said and done, that'll be 150k bells and way too much time...

I had to restart my island a few days after launch because I got a new switch but wanted my start date to be release date so I kind of set myself up to TT from the beginning hah. now I only do it if I'm dying to get a villager out or too impatient to wait a day for each building to move
Ohmygosh, I'm the SAME way! Whenever I restart I like the date to be the ACTUAL date I started playing the game, 'cause I'm really particular about it 😛

I feel like if I didn't TT I wouldn't be as avid an AC player.
Oh, gosh, I DEFINITELY wouldn't be! Like I've said, I'd get bored too quickly, and just wouldn't play nearly as much.

Of course, I'd also get more done in other games, then... Oh, and RL stuff. I'd probably do some of that, too
(I mean, I spend most of my days playing video games right now, but I USUALLY do get out more... but with everything going on, and living with two high risk individuals, I haven't been doing a lot right now)

I time travel a lot as well, though I only time travel short time spans, like a few hours, a single day or even up to a week. I like to stay within range of real time, but I still want to be able to skip wait times for stuff like growing trees/flowers, finishing construction, and getting items in the mail. I've done it in New Leaf and City Folk and I found those games really enjoyable! I get that some like to stay in real time, but it's just too hard for me to sit there knowing I could make a lot of progress on my island if I could just have the items I ordered from the catalog immediately instead of waiting a whole day. While part of me says to be patient and to go do something else, the artist in me wants to keep going while I have the inspiration and motivation to do it. I think a lot of others feel that too, so you are definitely not alone on this one. Haha

As for holidays, I like to wait in game for those. Seeing Christmas lights and snow while I'm sitting in 80 degree weather in June just doesn't feel the same as it does when it's actually around the season and I can immerse myself in it's glory. That's just me though! :D

I did once to kick a villager out. I don't regret it but I don't think I'll do it again. I was desperate to come back to real time lol I felt so disconnected to the game. And I feel like I spend enough time on it without TT

I’ve time traveled in all the games. It’s just easier to get building going. Also I like customizing a lot and sometimes I need to order things and travel to be able to customize the same day. I try to keep within the same month though.

I do! admittedly, I think I do it too much but I like the faster pace. I got the game pretty late after release so I like being caught up with everyone else!

I’ve only ever time travelled to move in Amiibo villagers. I had four lined up and didn’t want to wait almost 2 weeks for all of them to be moved in. Other than that, I have enjoyed going through the seasons naturally. However, I’ll admit I do enjoy visiting time travellers’ islands; fall and winter are my favourite seasons and it’s a treat to wander around that environment from time to time :)

See, every once in awhile, I just get an urge to experience Christmas in June, or Halloween in March, or something. And... since I can't exactly do it in real life, video games are my outlet for that :p

See, I start to feel a disconnect when I don't TT. It just feels so slow and dull... I guess maybe 'cause I'm more used to games that AREN'T in real time? Or, if they are, the time doesn't affect a ton (like Pokemon games- they go by real date, but then there's almost no limit to what you can accomplish in one day)

Yah, the limit to ordering really puts a damper on things! Especially when I'm remodeling my house or a part of my island, I don't think I could take leaving it just sitting bare for a few RL days while I got things sorted out! And, yeah, I generally keep mine close to the real date- if only 'cause I don't wanna leave my town for too long! I feel bad when my neighbors miss me 😅

That makes sense! Admittedly, I got the game the day of release (well, 11 PM the night before, I bought digital 'cause I COULD. NOT. WAIT. any longer ) but there was never any question of whether or not I would. I kind of had a mini-meltdown when I read that it wouldn't work in this game, but then I learned you could change the date on the system... definitely annoying, but at least it's still an option!

I generally keep close to the seasons- like I said, I usually TT one day at a time, so I still fully enjoy each season. The only time I'm "ahead" season-wise is the last little bit of each season- like I think I was experiencing summer (northern hemisphere) in the last two weeks or so of May. I used to TT way forward, skipping randomly from season to season, as a kid, but now I like to keep my town looking neater and more orderly, so I don't do that anymore! But, I had a lot of fun doing it as a kid, and certainly wouldn't judge anyone who does 😊

I don't normally TT at the moment, but I have TT'd a few times to get villagers to move out so I can adopt my dreamies!

However I TT'd a lot when I was playing NL. I was busy irl so I would TT somewhat often so I could take part in holidays, or to get work done in my town. What I mean is, sometimes I'd be busy all week and dedicate like 4 hours to play NL on the weekend and I would spend that time working on my town and TT'ing to get bridges and PWP built since I didn't have time to play the game normally day by day. If that makes sense lol. Currently I am not so busy and therefore play NH everyday, but I'm guessing in the fall or whenever things in my life pick back up again I'll TT again!

I'm willing to bet THE VAST MAJORITY of time travelers... don't.
I completely agree and definitely understand that point. The problem with it is often that it is enough if one person (!!) spoils/"leaks" event data, because it will be all over social media, TBT, discord, etc. and often as a non-TT you don't expect it and get spoilered, and I guess that can suck if you don't want to know things like these. And avoiding all kinds of social media because of 1-2 people is kinda stupid too.. But obviously it's a very tiny minority who does things like that. And making guides and spoilering people on purpose is, at least in my opinion, not the same. :) Also thank you for the reply. ^^

Yah, I feel like I'd TT even more if I didn't have time to play! I'm fortunate that, even before all this happened, I still would've had time to play everyday. But now I pretty much only have free time.

I have to admit, I'm kind of stunned by the people who don't TT even if they end up missing entire events then! I could NEVER miss an event, but to each their own! After all, how they play their game has no effect on me, and if they're enjoying it, good for them 😊

But obviously it's a very tiny minority who does things like that. And making guides and spoilering people on purpose is, at least in my opinion, not the same. :)
I mean, I understand getting annoyed with those who spoil it, but why not blame people who spoil things instead of time travelers? But, then again, I also don't get people who get, like, RAGINGLY angry at spoilers. I remember someone in my film studies class ended up HATING one of my best friends because he overheard the two of us talking and my friend accidentally spoiled "Citizen Kane" for him. Like... what?

Anyway... yah. Making guides is 100% different, UNLESS they're then tweeting them all over with spoilers or something :p

Right, I wouldn't post spoilers or anything! Couldn't agree more. I'm also lucky that I have nothing but time right now (Was working at a school but... well, you know. And now it's summer anyway) but I can't imagine not time-travelling if I would miss days, ESPECIALLY event days or something 😲

Lol, that makes sense. I guess my real life friends are just kind of weird, then? Or maybe it was just that... everyone seemed to time travel, and no one was judging it.

Yah, it's super convenient, especially when you've got a lot of stuff to move or build! I keep time travelling back lately because I'm nearing the summer fishing tourney and I'd like to get all my houses in place right now, and I'm moving nearly everyone as I remodel!
Also, the fact that we can't move a house over a square or two, drives me NUTS. I time travel extra to make sure I don't have to leave someone in a really weird place for a day when all I wanted was to move over a teeny bit 😒

Yah, I don't plan on restarting anytime soon, but if/when I do I'll probably go back... depending on when.

I normally restart my game a lot, probably more than I should (and THAT I get regretting and getting upset over), but I'm trying to hold out in this game. I'd love to see if I could go a whole year in this town!

What's the best thing to do when all you wanted was to move a house over one spot? I don't have enough money to move each house twice just to move it to a slightly different spot.

I do, but very lightly and very rarely.

There's nothing wrong with doing so often, though. It's your island, your party...you know?

I think people mostly started getting their proverbial panties in a bunch when TTers started spoiling events and things for non TTers.

I don't think it's fair to lash out at all TTers over this, but some do.

I used to TT all of the time on NL. So far, the only TT I've done on NH is for putting the info in the weather forecast app so I can have a forecast of my island, and I've TT BACKWARDS and then forwards to make up for time that I missed. Usually I'll have been too tired from work to bother with my daily tasks on my island, so the next day I'll rewind to that day and play both days to make up for it. Other than that, I don't TT simply because I do like having things take longer. So far I seem to have more to do still every day than I ever did on NL.

I only time travel when needed example

I was getting a new villager and no one wanted to leave so I time traveled to get it

I time-travel to make things a bit easier that are needlessly tedious and I feel like the game is trying to waste my time:
For example:
  • I time-traveled back and forth when Celeste was visiting to get her regular DIYs. I've been playing almost daily since release and I barely managed to get the zodiac-items. For the rest of her items, You have to get her multiple times per month (because the first time, she gives you the current zodiac-diy), which I never managed. At this rate, it was going to take me several years! And I was't exactly willing to pay insane amounts to other players to buy the recipes. I will wait for the rest of the zodiac-items, though.
  • In the beginning, where Redd was a lot rarer than he is now, I time-traveled to reroll his inventory when he was carrying all fakes or repeats until I got a new piece of art.
I think some people get way to extreme over this. Yes, the game is not intended to be played this way, but it also likes to waste your time with pointless restrictions. I feel like NH is especially bad because they want to incite you to use multiplayer to get things faster.
There are varying amounts time-travelling. Rerolling RNG and helping things progress a bit faster every once in a while is fine imo, as long as you don't abuse it too hard. When people zoom through the year and already have all the seasonal stuff and the museum completed after a week is when I draw the line.

I do some time traveling - mainly if I'm trying to move in a villager, or when Redd visits. Once I realized how infrequent Redd's visits were, I decided I wanted to work on my art gallery with TT. I don't see a problem either way, play however makes you happy :)
Ohh can you tell how to tt with redd?

Hello

WOW! there are a lot comments, have read through just a few :) (not feeling the best so not focusing to reading more :p) I myself have played since the game first came out on the GC and I TT then (and was always getting memory cards to have extra towns LOL Actually still have them) and I do now (wanted to try and not but schedules and such make it difficult)

Never thought of it as cheating. :D Because of the various reasons stated by other players. The difficulty that can come with getting certain characters to visit or obtaining certain DIYs or designing your island. Trying to catch the fish/insect/ or sea creature that doesn't fit your time schedule.

It is nice to see the variety of ways that people play
