Currently, I have Raymond, whose intellectual looks scream "detective" or "detective's apprentice" among other roles. Are there any other villagers out there who could be a detective investigating a disappearance (based on their appearance or otherwise)? I'm on the lookout for new villagers to fill this character role in my island's plot once I get Raymundo's photo. 🤗

I would say Beardo, based on his default outfit. The inside of his house fits the theme quite well, too. That being said, I realize he's not very popular. I was mad when he showed up as my initial smug camper, but it didn't take me long to fall in love with him. I'm so glad I decided to give him a chance.

I also second Beardo being that classic detective as well.

Man, all of those suggestions are great! But I first pictured Marshal in a little detective outfit, and it was too cute.

So many potential detectives! I really think slapping on a pair of glasses and a detective's hat/coat can really elevate any villager's original look.

(all the images I'm taking from the ACNH fandom wiki!)

Out-of-the-box, I think Beardo has a great look. His house interior is also very vintage office-y, which means less item gifting and decorating hassle for you.

If you're looking for something a bit dorkier but still kinda detective/smart, Doc looks like he could also fit the ticket. He's got a good mix of office stuff which I this is pretty fitting for a detective.

Haven't seen anyone mention Eugene. The inside of his house kind of fits. Even has a stereo that plays Agent K.K.

Part of me, if I had Happy Home Paradise, would make a vacation home, have Beardo and Doc be roommates, and pass it off as some detective agency now... :)

Why no female villagers yet? Cleo often wears glasses and has an office for a house. Vivian looks and speaks formally and wears a tweed jacket. Both of them feel like they could be Agatha Christie protagonists to me!

I like Velma, just because we share a birthday and she looks like a detective. I’m surprised nobody mentioned her yet.

Personally I like the idea of Butch in detective gear. You will have to gift alot to him to make his house look like an office though. However, because his house looks like a road in the middle of no where, you could make it seem like a mysterious crime scene or Butch investigating ET activity.
I think personality wise, crankies are a good one to look through. I would also consider Gaston, Frett, and Dobie from the crankies.
And as a general fan of Beardo, I have to support that suggestion too :).
I think bones is also a good choice despite being a lazy because of his wishbone vibes if you want something a little different. With his library like house, he could be a twist and be a history detective.

Dobie was my first thought, but Tasha strikes me as another good option! She's got a good coat for it and a sharp gaze, and her picture quote feels very fitting for a detective character. Her house might need a little work, but with the general moodiness of it, I feel like it's already got some good elements of a film-noir detective vibe.
