ACNH Pet Peeves and Petty Complaints Thread

in NH the voice actually varies based on species. my normal villager megan has a deep voice, whereas Kiki's is a bit higher. I haven't heard the cranky voice for bears/elephants in NH but I have a cranky hamster and it sounds very off lol.
I feel like New Horizons makes the Animalese more "natural" sounding, like what a real animal crossing character would sound like, whereas older games (most noticeable in Wild World) it feels more digital.
New Leaf's animalese is iconic and charming.
Ah okay. No wonder Mallary on my island sounds more duck-like than the rest of my non-duck villagers. But yes, Animalese sounds much more natural in NH compared to the older games.

I wonder if there would ever be a feature for the player character to speak it too when using the chat button. Might sound a bit weird, however.
i hate that we can't put hanging items on cliff walls, honestly! it would make things so conceptually fresh ✨✌🏻
What do you mean I can't hang my vine garlands alongside my cliffs???

For real, that's something I wish the game had. We got permanent ladders, why not other things?
I don't like it when villagers get in the way. Like sometimes when you're busy hitting a rock several times they like to come near you and then you somehow talk to them which makes you mess up your hits on the rock so you don't get enough materials.
Yep. This and when they decide to sit (or fish) in the middle of a 1x1 path with no easy way to go around them. Happens way too much next to my rivers in which I have a fence built just far enough so that the river itself can still be used for fishing.
It's been 3 years what do you meeeeaaaan I have to exit and re-enter the dressing room every time I want to buy different colours of the same thing!
Or craft fishing bait with pockets full of Manila Clams...

There are so many wall items that would look better outside then inside. They took the time making nice items it’s sad you really can’t use them outside.
I would have loved to place the really nice small and medium rugs outside . It would create more pattern space. I really love the seasonal and fruit rugs but they would be better outside.

For me they usually get it the way when trying to catch a bug. Sorry I wasn’t trying to hit them with my net they just walked in the way .

Yeah!!! it really does feel like so many of them were designed to be used outside. ESPECIALLY the rugs, you are soooo right about that. after i took a break from playing, i actually came back and fully was like, wow cool rug, can't wait to place it out ------
/stares into the camera for an hour

maddening!

It's wild because in the Nook stores, those items come with a metal frame that they hang on.

So why can't we get that outside??
yeah, such a good point, it's true. they do! where are they..... one wonders....

imagine if we could hang vine garlands across cliffs and go under them.....we would be Too Powerful. this is the OP the devs are worried about, for sure.

I don’t like it when villagers randomly show up in your house uninvited, even after you tell them no.
I don't think telling them no is possible, but I logged in the other day to do one of the camp events and like within 2 seconds someone showed up. It is a pain, but I think this was a thing in NL as well.

I agree and I will say after bringing back the feature to let villager visiting your home I am very disappointed in Nintendo for not giving you the option to say "No" if a villager wants to come into your home. The only way to stop them is to leave your home and then you have the option to say "Yes I'm leaving" and then they leave. This always happens with villagers with a high friendship and you find yourself having to move them out because they are constantly bothering you when you're trying to decorate your home.

When I saw that feature being brought back in the 2.0 announcement video, I did not react to that with much positive fanfare, as it was a pretty annoying feature in New Leaf. However, with me having a mental problem of feeling remorse for fictional anthropomorphic animal characters, there were days I actually felt good that some of my most favorite villagers actually cared about seeing me. I had some fun with the feature too:

I've mentioned it many times, but I won't stop mention it. They really should've given us an app option or even some kind of furniture piece for the door that tagged your house as 'do not disturb' Like those cheap plastic pieces that hang on your hotel door if you don't want room service or anyone intruding.

But you know, this is the game that didn't even bother to program/make any kind of indication of the level of your tool's durability. Let's just keep using it until it breaks and that's how they'll find out. Genius! It's very telling when previous games had one tool, the ax, and it showed signs of wear to prove it its level of durability. And now the entire list of tools breaks, but who cares no one wanted a basic gaming 101 feature like that.

I'll never stop complaining about the game expecting you to
  • earn 10,000,000 bells in turnips
  • collect all 80 fish and
  • catch 5000 fish in total???
Literally why. Bugs too. Why should I catch everything 63 times??? There are so many achievements you could do that would add up over time, the little creatures are more about collecting them all.

Those are meant to be more of a slow burn achievement opposed to being done instantaneous or very quickly. Don't get me wrong, I feel like some of them are too high in count for the final achievements. I probably never will craft enough tools to finish the tool making task because I hate how the entire crafting and tool durability was implemented in the game. I simply just buy tools in bulk and swap them out when one breaks.

Those things are meant to drag out the game just give you a reason to keep playing. It maybe fun at first but it does get repetitive really fast. Me personally I don't really bother catching Fish. Only whenever CJ is around or the Fishing Journey is going on. Collecting all the Fish. I mean meh all you get is a Golden Rod in return only for it to break so what would be the point and you cannot even customize it to restart the durability. As foar as earning 10,000,000 in turnips since I have 2 copies of the game and 2 switches I can easily do this but the only annoying thing about is trying to find the higher turnip price so I spend like 2 hours time traveling just to find the right price and by the time I do I still have to go back and forth doing the same thing (Go to the island, buy turnips from Daisy Mae, Go back to your island, and go to Nook Cranny's just to sell the turnips that are at a great price. Rinse and repeat)

At the end the day the game tries to encourage you to play daily just to complete the acheivements but its just not as fun when you've been doing it for so long and gets so repetive really fast.

Why this wasn't implemented in the game is beyond me. Heck, they could've done it like how Minecraft does it, with a status bar and a dynamic inventory icon of the tool degrading. But noooooo, we have to guess the amount of times we do things in our heads.

Me and bugs. I already did the fish one 'cause fishing bait, but I'm just over halfway done with bugs. I don't know if I'll ever find the time to completely finish the bug one unless I have a lot of extra free time on my hands.

I know there are people who actually go out of their way to time each usage and know when it will break so they can use a customization kit on it to reset the durability, but really that is so much work for so little return. I just go to Nook's and buy a few tools and when I burn through them all I repeat that.

Wild World: You can sell forgeries to Tom Nook for 10 Bells.

City Folk: Same thing.

New Leaf: Reese, Timmy and Tommy will charge a disposal fee of 100 Bells for forgeries.

New Horizons: Timmy and Tommy refuse to accept it and instead of handing it back to you while also purchasing anything else you offered to sell, have decided to make you select everything again.

This game has so many inane decisions made to slow things down and actively has gone back on some QOL compared to previous games.

i dont have access to my switch but i found my old N. 3DS and started playing ACNL until i can get my hands on my switch and while playing i found super cute that as soon as my rep left her home she had an expression of suffering and sweating due to heat, which is how i felt today with our heat wave hahahaha.

That a tiny nice detail that i wished they could have kept or at least taken into consideration with ACNH

Yeah it's really annoying how they did things. Like why can Mabel have you change out of your terraform hat to go into the changing room, but forget it if you're wearing a swimsuit! You got to exit out and take it off. It's so pointless. This game has so many QoL features, but then falls on its face at the same time.

So many people have complained about the fish bait crafting that I feel like there's no way Nintendo didn't hear about it, and it really feels like that would have been an easy thing to fix in a patch.
I would've wanted them to make it where you can buy Fish Bait from CJ but only when he's on your island or during the Fishing Journey.
