depends on launch titles.. i bought a switch lite for animal crossing, so will most likely wait to purchase one until another game in the series is announced. would also really like to purchase an ac special edition console !
I bought my Switch in September 2017 and that was the soonest I've ever got a Nintendo console, but there's at least part of me that's going "yes, get it Day 1 for once!".
Not entirely sure if I'm going to actually go through with it (as I've got no clue as to what the launch titles are going to be and if there's anything that appeals) but I've been ready for the Switch 2 for at least a year, and I need it in my life.
Probably not since the one that I am using is the limited edition Animal Crossing Switch from a few years ago. There is no point in me buying another console since my husband and I each have one.
if it's backward compatible with regular Switch games then I will likely get it at some point, though I'm not in a hurry to do so at all. I barely play the Switch I have haha.
I'm actually really curious what launch titles they would decide on. Like Donkey Kong hasn't had a new game since 2013 with Tropical Freeze. That's over 10 years. And the Switch game is just a port from the Wii era. So I would think that Donkey Kong might be one of their launch titles.
But it's just weird that botw was one of their launch titles and now totk has been out for a year already. So maybe another Mario 3D game like Odyssey. But they've been so quiet. So if it turns out to be a launch like the Wii U, I'd probably hold off. The first year the title selection was very lacking. I kept going to the stores and seeing the same games for months. Maybe even a year.
They already feel like they're heading the way with the Wii U if they don't start advertising it. The Wii U didn't even have any marketing and it suffered because of it.
After getting my pc…. I’m no where near as invested in Nintendo anymore, so the switch 2 isn’t personally worth it to me, which is a shame!
Maybe if the switch and its games had impressed me more overall then I’d be singing a different tune. I’m glad it brought Pikmin 4 to life and the botw titles but other than that it’s been a major wii u port (which I already owned, including titles like mk8), acnh disappointed me, pokemon ain’t cutting it, splatoon rly can’t justify me purchasing it a fourth time (there’s not that many differences between 3 & 2 anyway)… I’ve just felt pretty mid and underwhelmed for it’s lifetime. If the switch 2 is somehow incredible then I’ll probably purchase it sometime in my life, hopefully second hand?
Nah it would probably be many years later on. It has to be something unusually different to get my attention at this point. I got my first Switch when the OLED came out just a few years ago and am still playing through many games. Those along with lots of games for other systems, PC especially, that I'm playing now or already planning to later, I'm overwhelmed with too many great games for the forseeable future.
It kind of depends for me. The main games I play from Nintendo are AC and Pokemon. So I waited until New Horizons was announce before getting a switch, I got the NH special edition. And to be honest, I’ve not been overly impressed with it. I hardly play NH anymore, the Pokemon games are laggy and glitchy so I don’t play them much. I mainly use it to watch YouTube or play Stardew, which I can always play on the my computer.
I can only see myself getting a switch 2 if it’s absolutely amazing. And even then only if the AC and Pokemon games on it are reviewing really well. And the price is also a big part too. The switch was a lot of money to chuck out when I’ve not really used it that much. So I definitely feel more cautious for the second one.
I plan to buy it day 1 or so, I've saved up money for it just in case. I'm not sure if I'll pre-order or not yet it depends on what release games are and if there's any bonus for pre-ordering
Will definitely get it after a couple months. The only consoles I’ve got at release were the 3DS and the Wii U so, safe to say they’ve put me off buying any consoles at launch for life. I got the Switch about 3-4 months after release, preowned with a bunch of games, for the same price as a standard switch at launch with no games - so I think I’ll hold off again. Will definitely get it quickly enough though, and also dependent on game lineup as others have said.
I will try my best to get it day 1. When the switch came out I was much younger and didn't have any money so this would be the first console I might be able to afford Day 1. I've been putting a little bit aside to get it so hopefully I can save enough.
I'm hoping it's not overly expensive but I also appreciate that part of the experience I'd be paying for is the release hype and discussing it with other people that also have it day 1. Console + a release experience sounds like a fair trade to me, obviously depending on the price
As others have said previous, it depends on the launch titles, but also it depends on the MSRP right out the gate. If they're looking for $600 for a slight better console than the one I already have, then to me unfortunately it doesn't matter if the next AC is a launch title, that's simply too much for the same machine.
However, if it's closer in price to the switch, like $400-450, that might be abetter justification. Unless theres something really awesome right away, though, It might just be a good idea to wait a while until the sales start coming in or people start selling their old ones.
honestly it depends how much it is and what the exclusive games/features will be. when they eventually stop releasing titles for the switch that's when i'd consider it
I'll probably get it day one, because why not? I guess it does depend though what it really is like. I haven't played much video games recently except some on my phone, even though I think that what I'm doing is actually pretty stupid. The games I play on my phone (mostly Pokémon GO and Fire Emblem Heroes) play less like traditional video games and more like hobbies / collection / collectible games though.
Anyway, as long as the "Switch 2" and the launch titles are interesting enough, I'll probably get it right away.
I might down the line, once several game titles I am interested in have been released. I’m generally someone who likes to observe and wait first to see if the console has any issues to be aware of.
