Are you overwhelmed by 2.0/HHP DLC content? (discussion)

no i'm just excited. i will have to try to not get everything done at once even though i want to rush through everything to get all the items and stuff unlocked. i should just try to enjoy the game but yeahhhhhhh i might get overwhelmed once we get the update.

I do feel overwhelmed! I know it hasn't been a complete game and everything, but I work fulltime and have a busy life in general as well, so to me personally it always felt as enough content I guess. When the lockdown happened I still had to work out of house 40hs a week, yet lots of people were able to play instead, so I generally felt there was to much game and to little free time for me. Sure i miss some things but it didn't stop me playing.

Since last summer the community has quiet down a bit and it enabled me to play more at my own pace. So the slow/small updates weren't really a bother for me.

And ofcourse I'm extremely excited and happy with this update! But it took me 1.5 years to finally get all critters and almost completed my orderable catalog, so it feels overwhelming to have so many more things to collect. Yes I'm very very happy with it, but I guess I'm a bit of a control freak so I don't like chaos or the feelingI'mmissing out. And because the update will bring back lots of people it will also bring some chaos in the trading market and community in general, I will have to make sure I adjust and stay calm and keep playing my own pace instead of trying to keep up with everyone.

But again, that's my personal thing, and I'm sure there's few people with the same situation haha
I am reallllyyyy very excited for the update tho! This will have me playing for many many more months!

A lot of these articles seem to treat AC like any other game where you're supposed to "finish" the content, but that's not the point. It's even fairly passive in a sense - you keep playing as usual and get new stuff as it shows up.

Can't see anything overwhelming about buying a new lamp every day.

overwhelmed? no.
But i am happy to see Kapp'n and Brewster return.
( maybe they will do another expansion and open up another door, this time on the right side inside in the museum )

I have been playing since new leaf and i quite like Brewster and Kapp'n.

I remember feeling when they added swimming that it was a lot of new stuff, and I was glad that they didn’t have it to begin with, because it would have been overwhelming. Looking back that was probably just because it seems like so much to add on to a game I was already spending so much of my free time on.

now, having spent so much time on the game and gotten used to everything, I don’t feel overwhelmed even though a lot more new stuff is being added. I guess this time around I understand better that there is going to be plenty of time and no need to rush to get anything done. Plus I have had a lot more time to do the things that were already in the game.

on the other hand, maybe I am just not thinking ahead well?😅 I will have to see how I feel once the update is actually out. I have a lot less free time than I did when I originally got the game and was on maternity leave and sheltering in place due to the pandemic, with a needy but mostly immobile infant instead of an active toddler to care for.

No, not overwhelmed. I just have a feeling like I will have a complete product. However, this is just initial feeling because prior to the update, I can just express my opinion “what I saw”.
New content seems manageable for me, I don’t have a feeling there’s too much or to chaotic.

I'm very excited but a bit overwhelmed too just because there's so many new things and items but I'm glad I never finished my Island because now I can use them. But I'm really excited much more than overwhelmed C:

I'm rather overwhelmed. I see people who can take AC as it comes and honestly I envy that because that's how the game is supposed to be played. But I get extremely obsessive about perfecting my creations before I can actually enjoy the game. Perfecting means going through every single item in the game and hand selecting the best items, collecting these and building with them. Honestly I really hope that the items we get are loved by the community and hated by me so I can enjoy the actual new content like farming and stuff without getting miserable over items lol

No, I've seen plenty of people say they think this should've been in the game at release, and I think if it was added at release people wouldn't be calling it "overwhelming". I mean AC is hardly a hardcore game where you can't afford to miss even a day, and people feeling like they have to invest hours everyday into their islands doesn't make it so.

Well, we'll have to see how they deploy it. They might have some things be unlockable and try to space out the new content that is added. It was a lot to take in the first 10 minutes but I think once it's open it'll feel more natural. It's not a concern for me, at the very least.

To be honest, yes I am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of new content/features coming to the game. I'd have preferred they released some of these updates more slowly throughout the year. It almost feels like too much to tackle all at once!

That said it might be nice to have a lot of things going on- smaller updates in the past haven't excited me much in the past and this much content will at least get me to play for a change. I am hoping it's going to be more of an exciting thing than overwhelming. I'm trying to prepare myself by getting re-acquainted with my current island and making small changes to prepare for new areas. At the end of the day, you don't have to engage with any of the new content until you're ready. Not ready to cook? Don't plant crops! Not ready for Harvs? Don't go there! That kind of thing. I plan on choosing to tackle it in bits until I feel ready to get started on the DLC stuff.

So I'm a bit nervous for it but definitely excited and ready to tackle what they're throwing at us!

I personally wasn't overwhelmed by the update I thought it was nice to have so much at once so you can do everything at your own pace instead of waiting for smaller individual updates that probably wouldn't have made much sense to get separately. I also hear many people are disappointed that there will be no more DLC's I don't know if this is true but if so I don't exactly understand why the disappointment. I'd rather get more free updates than more paid DLC's this opinion is influenced by the pricing of the expansion and the addition of needing Online Membership. I'm not saying the expansion isn't worth 50 dollars it look really cool and has lot's of things that I think everyone will enjoy! But it is pretty expensive imo since new horizons itself is 60. I think all mechanics that are coming are really worth being excited for and being overwhelmed is pretty avoidable because again with this game you get to go at your own pace, you don't need to go to kap'n islands or start farming more or cooking which i think is really cool both for people who wanted more quality of life updates and those who didn't really mind whether they were added or not. 'v'

It is kind of overwhelming but I'll probably just take my time with it like I have with other updates. For example, after the diving update I wasn't in any rush to complete the critterpedia and I still haven't gotten all the pascal DIYs. There's a lot to explore with this update but I'll probably just end up spending the first couple weeks binging on HHP anyways! I do want to flatten parts of my island at some point to do a redesign but I'm kind of burned out from doing that fairly recently.

Honestly, I liked the slow rollout of diving, art, and dreaming - just when my interest was starting to flag and standard fatigue set in, a new update would freshen things up. But it seems pretty clear that adding the big holidays as updates limited what features they could add in Year 1 due to the pandemic. I don’t necessarily blame them, the idea made sense with the gameplay model and this decision must have been made before November 2019 when a massive global pandemic became at all foreseeable (especially since it seems like their focus for the base game was implementing DIY, outdoor decorating, and terraforming - all pretty major, new systems that would have taken a lot of time.) But the end result is still unfortunate, and I admit I’m disappointed we seem unlikely to get any more ‘minor’ holidays. The concept of longer windows for more involved events like May Day and Museum Day was interesting, and I wish we had a few more of those.

I do wonder what the game’s post-release schedule would have looked like if it hadn’t released in 2020. I feel fairly confident we’d have gotten at least some of these features earlier. But, we’ll probably never know, and we’re getting them now, which is ultimately what matters.

definitely, yeah. i’m super excited for everything that’s coming and am practically counting down the minutes until the update drops, but i’ve gotten so used to my underwhelming daily routine that the fact that there’ll be so much more to do (visit mysterious islands, check in with brewster, hunt down new furniture and diys, hunt down/scan in new villagers, collect gyroids, work on hhp stuff, etc) all at once is,, a lot for me tbh. it doesn’t help that i’m just easily overwhelmed, either — hhp alone would be enough to overwhelm me, let alone the other stuff lol.

i’ll be okay, though! i really am excited for everything, and i’m sure that i’ll feel much less overwhelmed once the update drops and i’m actually able to play and begin incorporating all of the new stuff into my daily routine! it’ll just take a lil bit of getting used to. :’)

I'm not feeling overwhelmed in the least bit. As you mentioned in your original post, this update seems to be bringing the game up to a state that I felt it should have been at launch.

I feel like something went wrong with them releasing updates during the past year and a half though. I get this feeling that we werent originally meant to have everything dumped on our laps all at once like this with a "Here! Here's everything! Now nothing more is coming. Take this all and be happy!" I just think it would have made more sense (and fit our expectations more) if we had been gradually getting this content. But who really knows what has been going on behind the scenes.

Despite all that, I am very pleased with all of the content put into the game now and am looking forward to slowly experiencing everything day by day at my own pace

I'm really looking forward to the new crops and cooking. I don't want to create a second character so I am needed to reevaluate my house because I want to display the food items that already exist plus my favs among the new items. I love cheesecake and would like to display that.

I am thinking that the Franklin recipe from last year for pumpkin pie will be turned into a new food DIY.

I'm overwhelmed, but like, in a good way! There's just so much to do and I'm so excited to spend another 1000 or so hours on this! But of course, what to do first? I can't even plan because I know I'll either forget something or we don't know the details of it yet! The suspense is truly killing me, patience has left my brain. It cannot come any faster!
