Since a lot of people have been living on their island for six months, I'm making a series of polls to see how many are still satisfied with their island! I will be covering things that cannot be changed unless you reset the game. Here is a short analysis of the results so far:

Link to this poll
Blue seems to be the most popular airport color, with red being the least. An overwhelming majority of voters consider themselves satisfied with their airport color. Overall, people with yellow airports are more likely to want to change their color than those who have another color. Let's hope Tom Nook eventually gives us other options, like pink, purple or brown!

Few voters have south & west river mouths, but those people seem to be the most satisfied with their river placement. The most popular river mouth position seems to be south & east. Overall, people with double south river are more likely to want to change to another layout, but then, most people are satisfied with their river mouths and have learned to work around them.

Peaches seem to be the most popular native fruit, with oranges and cherries following closely behind. Apples are also fairly popular, while pears retain their reputation as one of the least appreciated fruit. As a matter of fact, nearly half of voters who have pear as their native fruit would rather change it, while those who have other fruits seem to be mostly happy with them.

Most voters would change at least one of their initial flowers. Overall, people are usually more satisfied with their native flower than their sister flower. Sister flowers, which are based on starting month, do not see much diversity, since most people started playing in either march or april. Native flowers, which are based on the resident representative's birth month, have more variety.

Next up is building placement!

Buildings have a huge impact on your island design, and even more so when they cannot be moved. Unfortunately, while most of the time Tom Nook will be more than happy to take your bells when you want to relocate something, there are two buildings that can never be moved: the Airport and Resident services.

Are you happy with the placement of these buildings? Did you reset for a specific layout? If you had the option, would you move them a little, leave them where they are or place them somewhere else entirely? How much would you pay Tom Nook for him to get off his chair and let his office be moved?

I wanted my Resident services and Airport to be centered, but from what I've seen, it's very difficult to get them perfectly aligned. I'm still pretty happy with what I've got, but the fact that it's not perfectly centered has caused some big issues for me in the past. I've had to start over my terraforming and relocate all other buildings twice because I didn't have enough room for my river near Resident services. I used to plead with Tom Nook, offer him millions to move his building only a few inches. But now that I've worked so hard to make everything fit, I don't want his help anymore. Tom can stay right where he is.

What about you?

i, personally, wouldn’t move them. i wanted the airport and rs to be fairly close together, which they are, so i’m happy about that. that being said, the layout has sort of made making any kind of entrance a lil difficult so,, it’s a bit unexciting but it’s not that big of a deal to me aha

I don't know how to respond on this. (I will just leave them right where they are because there's no option for you to move them.)

When I started playing New Horizons, I didn't know that this was a thing.

i recently realized how awful my resident services building placement is. i never rly pay attention to my airport bc its never a "central" feature when i plan out my islands' paths. but man, if resident services is in the wrong spot and uve gone into making ur island with a specific theme it throws a wrench and multiple other tools into the plan. ive just given up on the idea of having resident services close to the airport at all bc it's almost always one spot off and i'd like to do grander entrances. hopefully map RNGsus will be kind to me on the 10th when i reset.

When I was planning I figured they wouldn’t be moveable so I wanted the RS centered on the main land (the area before having bridges). After finding out aligning it with the airport was possible through resetting I was a bit bummed out, but honestly I’m happy with it’s placement now. I made it work.

I hit the lottery on my first island and ended up with my favorite fruit and favorite color (yellow) airport. I just kinda took what the game gave me with everything else. I do wish resident services was a bit closer to the airport but I’ll work around it.

The placement of Resident Services is the bane of my existence and a living testament to my inability to function late at night. It's slightly off-center, just enough to be annoying. I wouldn't even care if it was much closer to the airport, as long as I could just lay a straight path from one to the other.

This is one where neither island really bothers me. I kinda wish that RS and the airport were lined up in Arctin (it’s ALMOST THERE) but since it’s a shared island I can’t really do anything particularly fancy anyways so it’s not a big deal. On Evwirt I have a much bigger skew, which is actually awesome cuz it allows me to have a mini canyon entrance!

Honestly, that was the least of my worries for the placement of those two buildings. I was more focused on the rivers or what kind of cliffs I was working with.

I'm happy with my layout, so I wouldn't change anything.

My airport is at the southern center of the island, more to the right, and my resident services is north and a bit east of that. I wouldn’t change the placement of them to be honest. I’m happy with where all of my buildings are currently placed.

i reset my island after playing for a few months. i looked for a res services specifically far north and off center by 1 square from the airport, so i am rather happy with that. i do wish i would have thought about the fly over when picking it (i am not that big a fan of fly overs w RS in it, and my island does have that) but i still wouldnt change it.

i love having so much space bw RS and the airport. and love the variety in my beach sizes as a result of my airport cutting my shorter beach (on a e/s river alignment) into one beach just big enough for a player house and one big enough for 5 houses and a large rock. perfect and unique !

I could've maybe stood to adjust my resident services slightly a while back when I first started working on my town layout, if I was to be hyper-nitpicky. but at this point I've gotten everything working around it in a satisfying fashion, and adjusting it now would ruin all of that to an unfixable degree, so

no desired placement changes for me, for either the movable or unmovable buildings

When I was picking islands and doing the initial resets, the only thing I cared about for resident services was that I could see a waterfall in the background. Still can, though like a lot of things in the game, familiarity has long since dulled me to its beauty.

I actually reset...a month or two ago? because I couldn't get over my initial Resident Services placement; it was fairly close (<10 squares) to the airport and one block off center, and while I did end up with a vague solution, I wasn't ever super thrilled about it.

My current island, the one thing I was really resetting for was 1) either a Resident Services directly in line with the airport, or 2) a Resident Services significantly offset and away from the airport (and good starting villagers, in this case, since I was really hoping for the first option and there were way more chances of this one). I ended up getting Resident Services directly lined up to my airport, and I honestly love it -- it's so satisfying to be able to just walk straight to the center of the plaza after months of being one square off.

On launch day the main thing I was looking for was airport colour, fruit, and RS placement. The map I have now fit all of my requirements perfectly at the time: orange airport, cherries, and my RS being close and aligned to the airport. The only issue was that after I played my island for a month, like many people, I realised that my RS placement was actually quite terrible. Mine is 9 or 10 spaces away from the airport so the area around it is tight. Even now with a completely terraformed and landscaped island, the only thing I am always unsure of is my entrance in front of the airport. I was also annoyed that my flyover cut scene was mostly taken up by my town hall, while a lot of my friends had really cool areas of space to show off because their town halls weren’t so close to the airport destination. So if I could, I would definitely move my RS so I can explore different type of landscaping possibilities of a far away RS. I would never reset my current island just for the RS though. Part of me kind of likes the challenge of working around it, plus I like almost everything else about my island. But I do sometimes think, what if? 😅 If I have a second island or reset this one in the far future, there would be a lot more map options I’d consider.

i went for i 'would' move my resident services, because given the option to move RS I probably would experiment with it a bit (I always quite liked the idea of having a close RS, but also having a far away one lol) but equally I'm perfectly happy with where it is now as I've managed to adapt around it. I have a medium sized area between my airport and RS which gives just enough space for a decent entrance, but not enough for me to do anything extravagant. when I inevitably reset in the future I'll probably pay more attention to where it goes - on launch day all I really wanted was for the airport and RS to be more or less in line.

I'm not sure about this response, but my airport is located in the middle and the Resident Services is near the airport (on the east?).

Overall, I'm happy with what I have.

I'm perfectly happy with where my airport and resident services ended up. They're pretty much lined up in the center of my island, with resident services centered with the airport and not too far north of it. It being centered is the main thing for me, since that's really all I could want with it and thankfully I already have it, lol.

I would move my resident service ever so slightly to the left so that it straight inline with my airport but other than that I’m pretty okay with the placements.
again it wasn’t until I started watching people play AC on YouTube that people would restart the game until they were happy with the placements of everything 😅

I am glad with the placement of both! I have a services center very close to my airport, but they are perfectly aligned... While at first I got influenced by all these grand entrances I couldn't make, I have now incorporated the center in one big garden-like entrance and am very happy with it! I wouldn't change a thing. Though this would probably be different if they did not align, which would have made the task somewhat harder :p
