i recently realized how awful my resident services building placement is. i never rly pay attention to my airport bc its never a "central" feature when i plan out my islands' paths. but man, if resident services is in the wrong spot and uve gone into making ur island with a specific theme it throws a wrench and multiple other tools into the plan. ive just given up on the idea of having resident services close to the airport at all bc it's almost always one spot off and i'd like to do grander entrances. hopefully map RNGsus will be kind to me on the 10th when i reset.

The placement of Resident Services is the bane of my existence and a living testament to my inability to function late at night. It's slightly off-center, just enough to be annoying. I wouldn't even care if it was much closer to the airport, as long as I could just lay a straight path from one to the other.
It's hard to tell if it's exactly aligned when you first start the game! I now dig holes and place paths when I want to align a building, and it's much easier.
This is one where neither island really bothers me. I kinda wish that RS and the airport were lined up in Arctin (it’s ALMOST THERE) but since it’s a shared island I can’t really do anything particularly fancy anyways so it’s not a big deal. On Evwirt I have a much bigger skew, which is actually awesome cuz it allows me to have a mini canyon entrance!

i reset my island after playing for a few months. i looked for a res services specifically far north and off center by 1 square from the airport, so i am rather happy with that. i do wish i would have thought about the fly over when picking it (i am not that big a fan of fly overs w RS in it, and my island does have that) but i still wouldnt change it.
I was also annoyed that my flyover cut scene was mostly taken up by my town hall, while a lot of my friends had really cool areas of space to show off because their town halls weren’t so close to the airport destination. So if I could, I would definitely move my RS so I can explore different type of landscaping possibilities of a far away RS. I would never reset my current island just for the RS though. Part of me kind of likes the challenge of working around it, plus I like almost everything else about my island. But I do sometimes think, what if?
If I have a second island or reset this one in the far future, there would be a lot more map options I’d consider.
Oh wow, I didn't even think about the flyover! I agree that unique layouts are more interesting than the generic townhall. I wish the plane would fly over from another direction instead!
My current island, the one thing I was really resetting for was 1) either a Resident Services directly in line with the airport, or 2) a Resident Services significantly offset and away from the airport (and good starting villagers, in this case, since I was really hoping for the first option and there were way more chances of this one). I ended up getting Resident Services directly lined up to my airport, and I honestly love it -- it's so satisfying to be able to just walk straight to the center of the plaza after months of being one square off.
That must be so satisfying! I'm all for resetting when something bothers you too much. It's better to reset than to see it everyday and be annoyed.
If I could, I'd move the airport just a few tiles to the right. Right now, this is my map:

This is one of those situations where if you asked me two weeks ago I would have begged for the ability to move RS where I wanted it. But, after working hard on my island layout, I really like how it is and I wouldn't change it! Sometimes being stuck with permanent decisions makes you flex your creative muscles.
I couldn't have said it better! This is exactly what my journey has been. A few months ago I was questionning my choices, but now I've learned to work around them and would never go back!
I would pay all my bells to be able to move resident services. It’s in the worst spot on my island. It’s 8 spaces away and 2 spaces off center from the airport. I wouldn’t mind it being so close to the airport if it was at least centered.
Mine two is two spaces off! However, the icons on the map look more aligned this way. If I could draw a straight line from my airport to resident services, I think the icons would look a little off, since the airport exit isn't centered.
the more polls you post, the more i realize how much i want to change my island omg, but i wish that the airport and residential services were aligned and/or further apart
I hope you figure out a design you like! Yeah, those polls are making me think a lot about my choices, but then again, I would still be resetting if I hadn't settled with my current layout
Like with my native flowers, I specifically was resetting to get a map with resident services quite far from the airport. I wasn't particular about where the airport or resident services were on the map, just that they were far from each other. I was able to accomplish that, so Mairen is happy with this aspect
Yep! That was my TOP priority when choosing a town, and I still love my placement. The airport is around center, and the RS plaza is just six steps north from it ☺ I know some people hate having it so close, but I LOVE it. It allowed me to turn the front part of my island into the more developed "main street" sort of area, which generally gets more rustic and undeveloped (well, strategically developed to look less developed) as you go further back. Even if/when I start a new island, I think I may end up looking for the same sort of layout... I just can't imagine having and liking it any other way!
I love how you two know exactly what you want! Each game, I spend a lot of time deciding what I want to reset for, so it's nice to see people with the same motivation
