I'm new to TBT, so forgive me if this has been discussed before or too much here but...
What do you all think the paid DLC will include in NH? Well, since the game sold beyond Nintendo's expectations too. Now they have to make seversl DLC parts. Like "wave 1", wave 2 and so forth.
See, I have some theories or rather dreams for the DLC...
- First would be another HUB world to visit via Kapp'n by the pier. He takes us to some sort of huge sea port/harbror where new important NPCs sell stuff, and also some known characters like Pascal is there owning a sea pub or something. Haha.
As for the second thing, it ties in with this seaport area. I want us to gradually be able to sort of build and restore a ship or something in order to have ANOTHER "island" but this time with brand new villagers as possible neighbours.
- New Villager species: We're taking turtles, hedgehogs, bats, and more.
- New furniture and older things from previous games. Including Pocket Camp stuff.
I don't think Nintendo is going to charge for Animal Crossing DLCs (if they ever release them). I think they're just going to stick with these seasonal updates they've been giving us. It's been the pattern since the game's release.
The updates so far have all been free. New Leaf's largest update that came with additional furniture and etc was also free and Animal Crossing already has a version (Pocket Camp) that deals with micro transactions. Bring in the fact that it would be so easy for just one person to buy the DLC and trade the additional items that I don't think it would be worth Nintendo's effort. Like with the Sanrio cards: when they first came out, I got all the items I wanted basically for free (or for very cheap IGB) from other players on the internet. It was absolutely not justifiable for me to spend real money on additional items that I could get from others.
I also I don't think new villager species will be added to this game. There are so many existing villagers already that aren't in New Horizons, but exist in other Animal Crossing games. It's more likely if they add villagers, it's going to be ones that already exist or at least are species that already exist as it doesn't require them to build entirely new models.
I'm hopeful for older furniture to be re-added with future updates, especially sets that have existed in all previous games. Although I'd take new items too. I'd stuff that's less "themed" in a sense. The seasonal update items seem to very much fit within their respective themes and I find it's a little hard mixing them with others sometimes. Something that's more mellow/shares characteristics with multiple themes so they can be used as tie-in pieces.
I don't want any paid DLC. It already ticked me off enough having to pay for a subscription to access features that were free in NL. Unless the paid dlc is something I'm not interested in like a bunch of pink Princess Peach items (just an example), I might be done with the series or even the game since my time playing is continuing to decline and I'm quite concerned about some decisions they have made up to this point; I have been becoming less of a fan of paid DLC over time (at least since FFXV, bought that game on day one). I don't have the money to afford dlcs and even if I had the money, I rather not pay money for content that was in NL and should have been in the game from the start or at this point in the game's lifespan.
What you have to keep in mind is that they either rushed the game for release, or they adopted this update per month to keep the game alive longer. But needless to say: These updates are only free because the NH is very empty compared to the previous games.
They will make paid DLC since they know we will all buy it because we crave more content

These seasonal updates only exist now because they have locked out important characters from the game. Not to mention many older characters are missing from previous games. All this free content is only to slowly add back what we already had in the older games
I sincerely believe paid DLC will be a thing. You can take Splatoon 2 as an example since it'd the same team and devs that made Animal Crossing. They updated that game for 3 years, and made one paid DLC. It will follow like that.
However I think we will get "DLC waves" since NH is selling beyond control. They will want to milk it for us in money.
Like...
"DLC wave 1: Furniture!"
"DLC wave 2: Nintendo All-Stars!"
And so on...
As for new villagers... I'm hopeful. A man can dream.

While I agree with you that we should never pay for content that was free and existing in older games, I do think that a proper well made paid one could do good for the franchise. If they do this right with more to do than your own island and such, I'd be down for that. We need new areas and new functions. I'm tired being stuck on the island. Its perfect already and the way I want it. I need more to do as well.
But yeah... If they make a DLC that is worth it, I will pay for it.
Exactly. Kapp'n picking us up on his new swaggy ship or submarine and taking us to big new areas. Again, I'm dresming of a big seaport with places to enter and such hahaha please Nintendo.
They already do paid DLC...Amiibo cards. And seeing as they released more recently, Nintendo seems content with this being the mechanism to keep ACNH as a constant revenue stream. Otherwise, there's no way Nintendo is going to make a game like ACNH segmented based on who pays and who doesn't. It works for games like Smash Bros because the characters they add don't detract from the gameplay as a whole, whether played alone, or with others (I can button mash with Zelda just as much as I can with Minecraft Steve). If Nintendo were to add additional DLC on top of the Amiibo cards, it would detract from gameplay as a whole, especially in a multiplayer scenario.
I hope we get some type of update that includes games with friends or something that adds more depth to multiplayer rather than just online trades! Whether it’s free or not, I want it!! Lol

They most likely won't do DLC, because a lot of people think the base game still needs more features. maybe after the roost makes and appearance and a few other long awaited updates. They most likely wouldn't make new villagers, because of the impact that would make on the AC economy. you will have dirty little Noozakon scammers selling these new ones for outrageous prices, and anyone can come by someone else's island to pick up a villager. and bringing back furniture would most likely be in the base game.
so, in conclusion(I feel like I'm writing an essay), I think the base game would need a lot more done to it before DLC comes into the picture.
I really hope paid DLC doesn't become a reality. Like tajikey has mentioned, amiibo cards are essentially paid DLC already; I prefer this rather than in-game DLC packs for sure. Amiibo cards can be used for more than NH and if well taken care of, are forever, even when the game/system is no longer supported.
I believe that old/reoccurring features in a series should never be sold back to the playerbase, it's just a huge slap in the face and no doubt would piss off so many people if they release some of the old furniture sets or mechanics like the cafe in a paid DLC pack, especially for an unfair price. That's why Pokemon Sword/Shield got such harsh backlash and now the community is divided because of it.
If paid DLC is inevitable, hopefully it's for completely new furniture sets or completely new features. Just hope they don't go overboard with it like the Sims 4.
These monthly updates we get are features/events/characters that have always been present in past games in the series. They simply cannot charge us for Brewster, gyroids, missing furniture series, Re-Tail, Kapp'n, fortune cookies, Nook's Cranny upgrades, etc.
I seriously doubt we'll get paid DLC, not until all missing features have been made available again at least.
I had a similar idea for a port that can be built up so we can get more NPCs on rotation, but I never really considered that Nintendo would charge for them. I also doubt we'll see new villagers at this stage of the game. Part of the charm of the game and the reason why it's sold so well is that all of the updates have been free.
Based on the way they've been selling out, if Nintendo wants to capitalize on the large audience, all they need to do is print more amiibo cards. They'd rake if they made cards for the new villagers.
I'd buy DLC that includes another island or more space. A green house that holds all the extra flowers would be nice.
No to items/content from other AC games.
Nintendo could stop trading of new DLC items. If you can't drop them you wouldn't be able to trade.
I wouldn't be against paid DLC or an expansion as long as it's optional and adds big new features... not just furniture, but a new island or something really significant.
I'd pay for Pocket Camp style amenities and interactive furniture. Not Pocket Camp prices , but the ability to place a pool the villagers can splash around in or a swing that works or a merry-go-round would add a lot of life to the island.

Would I pay for stuff that was already in other games? No, but I think I'd pay for things from like pocket camp where the furniture is new and cute and the villagers actually played with it.
I don't believe so, since they most likely want both the northern and southern hemisphare people to experience all the seasons and catch all the bugs and fish and so on. Not to mention they still need to introduce all the missing important characters that is, well, seasonal NPCs.
DLC will come sometime after all that but still soon to hold momentum of the players.

Well yes, I agree here. Until we don't have the content that was in previous games... DLC is not in the horizon. But surely you believe there will come a time for paid DLC right? This game sold like water in a desert and is out of control in profit and numbers. They're gonna milk our money haha.
