DLC Discussion & Updates ~

Would I pay for stuff that was already in other games? No, but I think I'd pay for things from like pocket camp where the furniture is new and cute and the villagers actually played with it.
While that is typical GameaFreak and Pokémon Company behavior, I don't think they would make us pay for old content. But I don't agree about Pocket Camp. I despise microtransactions and gacha games.

So if DLC comes, I want a lot of content included. Even if it will be in "packs".

I wouldn't be against paid DLC or an expansion as long as it's optional and adds big new features... not just furniture, but a new island or something really significant.

I'd pay for Pocket Camp style amenities and interactive furniture. Not Pocket Camp prices 😅, but the ability to place a pool the villagers can splash around in or a swing that works or a merry-go-round would add a lot of life to the island.

Something like this:
Yes, 100% agree. I think what I mostly want with this whole DLC idea is honestly a whole new big area to explore and take care of.

While interactive furniture and such is neat, I think it classes as base game. It should be in free updates later down the road. I guess I'm just kind of "tired" of my island and don't want the main focus to be on it forever. That's why I suggested a new area with new villagers :)

I think we could see paid DLC. I would definately welcome it, long as it was in-additon to the free updates not in place of.

It could be a similar model to Splatoon 2 though, so we'll be getting regular free updates for quite a while, and we may get 1 or even 2 paid for expansions. Not that I don't want some small costmetic dlc, just that feels a model they may go for.

As to what the DLC could be fun to speculate, all your suggestions are great and would love to see them, though I do hope Tortimers island is part of a core update though as that seems a great addition to online for everyone.

A new clothing set could be a good 1.99 price point while a new furniture set could be a 3-4 price point. Some could be based from pocket camp others could be brand new, or even based on partnerships with other brands....

An expansion at 15.99 or even 19.99 could be a whole new island as you say or home home designer equivalent.

This is a real far fetch idea, but having another sub island where we can make our own minigames for online would be amazing, like we can setup an island maze with specific traps, almost like mario maker meets AC, and share codes or play it with friends......maybe a bit too out there though

Honestly, I do believe paid DLC would be so good for the game. That is, if it's entirely optional and isn't gatekeeping players who are not paying, as important updates should always be free. The reason why I believe paid DLC would be good is because it would entice the devs to make more detailed, enticing cosmetics that the players would eat up, which is in essence what I think many of us want. Devs are known to put way more effort into a paid dlc than a free one, so I expect something like the premium Pocket Camp items vs the free ones. The premium and cookies furniture are simply gorgeous, and I believe many of us are thirsty for such things in NH. Of course, it's entirely optional, so for those who are content with the game as is, they wouldn't have to buy it, but it would satisfy those who do.

I still expect paid DLC but I doubt they will announce it before March 2021. If if was a real expansion that isn't features from old games I would be willing to buy it. I'm also not willing to buy "cheap" furniture sets or garbage like that. I want any paid DLC to be meaty and not feel like I'm getting nickle and dimed by micros. Its a game where a huge portion of gameplay is collection and decoration so I would be appalled to have those items piecemeal sold to us at a premium. If I wanted that I would just play the app game.

First of all, for now we know, we will expect update (which will be free) late on November 2020. I do believe it will be a final update which close one-year-cycle of this game. This more likely to conclude (at least free cycle) of updates.
But... my thinking has some holes, as support is promised for more than one year... but the content related to numerous holidays will be completed and not many will be hyped if once per season Nintendo will release couple of furnitures or clothes.
And now, we coming to paid DLC - so far, playing online we have to have same version of software if we would like to travel. Many players paid for online subscription just for play ACNH online. If paid DLC will come, it's obvious not 100% of players will buy it. Then, will those non-DLC-players will be excluded from online playing despite the fact they paid for this?

They better not make us pay for future updates. If so I am going to be so pissed, but unfortunately like most people, I would still buy it because I love AC. But I can totally see them doing that, especially since they introduced the Nintendo online membership (which I also don't like but still pay for). I think they also realize its hard for dedicated fans to "boycott" their content because of the nostalgia factor, and recently they have really been milking that. (Example being the recent pokemon games being poor quality, yet pokemon fans like myself still look forward and buy every new game that comes out, regardless of reviews.)

The fact is that the team behind Splatoon is actually the creators of Animal Crossing. So what we are getting now is very similar. Even if all this content should have already been in the base game... But if they add new mechanics and curveballs for each seasons next year for free, well then that would be neat! ...neat!

(I just hope the paid DLC will be loaded with new content and things to do.)

Just to comment on this we currently don't have Pavé and he was shown in the pre launch direct so I expect free updates until February. It might only be one more update after Nov but there will be at least one.

Yes, Pavé was confirmed very early on in NH trailer so I agree with you fully here. But I'm thinkng also... What about for example Blanca who was supposed to come before Bunny Day? Will she be free content?

I also expect paid DLC mostly because Nintendo has been referring to the updates so far as "Free Updates", which implies paid updates in the future...

I'm trying to stay neutral on the subject since we don't know how Nintendo would go about it yet. The only game I've ever played that relied on paid DLC was The Sims 3, though I'm not sure that counts lol
Most of the EPs were totally cynical cash grabs but that was kind of expected from EA.

I have no idea how those things would play out in the Animal Crossing community...

I wouldn’t mind paid DLC if it’s a pretty substantial update with lots of new furniture sets and customization options such as new paths and fences and if it included new villagers.

I think this is a great point, and going to festivale in feb/March rounds off year 1 nicely.

would love new paths, there are so many great custom paths out there but I just miss the sounds from the official paths

Out of curiousity, your perspective of DLC is mostly things for your island then? Would you not be annoyed if you made your island perfect already, and then all of that was for nothing when new things come in form of DLC?

I guess it's the same debate regarding new buildings. The already perfect islands VS the empty ones waiting for content.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as a perfect island for me. A month ago I thought I was done decorating my island since every area in my island is fully decorated. However, in the past two weeks I updated 3 areas in my island when I thought of ways to improve it.

I don’t think the introduction of new things would annoy me because if I think it would make my island better I don’t have a problem using. If it’s not better than what I have now, I’ll just choose not to use it.

I know what you mean, since this does happen to me too from time to time but there comes a point where you just want to have a goal and feel satisfied. I'm personally on the minority here when I say I dislike terraforming for example.

But I guess I'm just in a way tired of the island. I need a distraction. City Folk made this illusion good from town to city. It felt like you went away for just a moment.

I wouldn't mind paid DLC, but only if it adds something major. Something along the levels of the Octo Expansion DLC for Splatoon 2, and since this is the same development team that made that game series... I think they would make any paid DLC be of the same creative level as that, and not a rubbish/small update.

What's the point of adding more space when we are so utterly lacking in items!

Y'all know I just want the NL items back. :(

So sorry to make such a short contribution , but i have heard a lot about Paid DLC for ACNH, and I didn't know we were getting a paid DLC to the game !? where did you all guys hear this, like could you share the official site confirming this? im so lost in this topic 😂
