DLC Discussion & Updates ~

So sorry to make such a short contribution , but i have heard a lot about Paid DLC for ACNH, and I didn't know we were getting a paid DLC to the game !? where did you all guys hear this, like could you share the official site confirming this? im so lost in this topic 😂
there is no confirmation. it is all speculation at this point.

If they ever do paid dlc, it better be after all the other basic stuff is added. It'll be a huge slap in the face if they put things like gyorids, the roost, villagers visiting homes, behind a paid wall. You'd be essentially paying plus amount more money for a game that is already $60.

I think many of us thinking, we paid already more than enough... I'm one of them.
Many people bought console just for this game - my GF has just ACNH, I have two more games, but mainly playing ACNH.
At least until version 1.4.x local play wasn't working properly and I know, this problem is not only existing for me - I had to pay "DLC" already to have online membership, but never playing online, and not intended to.
As I bought Switch (not lite) and playing in TV mode... "smart" Nintendo included joy-con grip, but it's not possible to charge joy-cons with it, so I had to pay for another DLC and buy official grip, just to charge my joy-cons.
Obviously ACNH wasn't cheap itself - so I do believe I paid for big N more than enough.

I really hope we don’t get paid dlc, especially now that I have 2 islands. I would have to buy it twice
That's like saying: "I wish we don't get more juicy content that is worth money because I somehow own two islands and that is hard work to flex with."

What's the point of adding more space when we are so utterly lacking in items!

Y'all know I just want the NL items back. :(
I have the opposite problem, too many items I wanna use but no creative space left on my island :(

That being said, I do miss many older items.

Each to their own, and while I agree Nintendo is kinda scummy lately (looking at you joycon drift and mediocre online) I still think DLC is essential to keep the game alive. More content means more time with the game. If you don't want to buy the content that's fine, but many of us will göadly pay to keep the game relevant.

But of course microstransactions are the worst.

It's not necessarily that they don't have a lot of items, but that most of the items they do have are kind of shoehorned into certain themes. Which is why you see a lot of folks mimicking the same themes. Tiki bar, cottage-core (I don't get why they add core to it), urban street, ect.

And if they do make paid DLC, it needs to be on the level of the WA update. Because we got that for free and if they expect everyone to pay for half of that content or less it's not going to look good on them.

Hell they make people buy another console just to make an additional island. I'm not an expert, but it couldn't had been too hard to have someone pay for an additional island slot instead of an entire system. But this is the same company that makes us pay for barebone online to play P2P and constantly disconnect because someone has a bad connection. So let's just punish everyone and accuse them of having poor sportsmanship with an hour ban.

I can't predict whether they will do paid DLC or not, but if they did it would completely depend on what the content is, and how much they charge. I am pretty tired of shelling out money for stuff, and have done plenty of that with other games I played. I do not want to get sucked into that again.
I already feel like this is the last AC game I will play because I do not want to have to buy yet another console to play this game. I have played every version except city folk, and each one has its pros and cons, but one thing for certain is that I get bored of them after several months. I like to pick it up again here and there, and I loved being able to buy multiple games because once I get things where I want them, I love starting over and doing something different on another town. I don't have that option with this game, but I really don't want to have to pay for more content.

I might be wrong here but: Was it ever possible tp have multipule towns in previous games on the same console? I get the hate and anger many feel since the Switch have different profiles, and seperate islands could have easily been implemented...

But I guess I'm just one of those folks who don't care about multipule islands. However the AC devs/team did a horrible job with giving secondary players no real sense of freedom or responsibility compared to the first player on the island.

Now as of the furniture, yeah we do need a lot of the old ones back and less dependable on DYI themed recipes. I agree but I have a fear we won't get back those furniture from previous games because so much is dependable on just wood, iron, stones, clay and weeds.

If they bring back all previous furnitures we either need new materials, or a new area besides the island. But I dunno.

For NewLeaf/3ds you just needed to buy another cartridge. It was saved to the game cart and not the system. Back then they probably costed $40 in 2013 but when I got into it the Nintendo Select was out for $20. Still full price for the new game in 2013 is a lot cheaper than $400.

The other games used memory cards, except for WW which again would be cartridge based, but WW also has Nintendo Selects. There wasn't much of a need to make another game in the previous versions though because you didn't have as much creative freedom. It was only a thing that really came around because of NL and being able to decorate the town/be the mayor. And since NH took it up a notch further, you think they'd had realize this would be a thing people would be down to do. Multiple islands for their different ideas.

On the multiple islands theme I do get the sense with the game they are not trying to paywall additional islands so much as wanting players to work within the limitation of 1, sharing it with the same household / switch. Unlike the Ds, One problem they may face is how the switch is setup in that you can’t really buy more than 1 game online, so can’t have say 2 animal crossings on 1 switch.

Maybe we’ll get an option in the future to buy another ac on our switch and allow another island but I do doubt this is high on the devs workstack.

instead I’m sure more content that enriched our current experiences will come, so I could see a future dlc where we get access to another mini island that works like a survivor island, albeit it in the spirit of ac. Think BOTW’s eventide island. Maybe here every day our progress is wiped and we get an award depending on the star rating we ended up with.

Or we could get an island similar to happy home designer as a paid expansion. I do have a hunch many of the hhd mechanics will come over to the core NH game in a future update with inspiration from pocket camp, but the island could use different mechanics. Someone suggested a spin off where villagers have their own shops and we have to do part time work like in the roost, that could be a lot of fun as an expansion. So the villagers missing from NH each have a shop in a market town access via dodo airlines, by doing errands or jobs for them, cooking, sewing, finding materials, we can earn furniture items from each of their exclusive furniture sets.

one last idea would be another island we share with ‘friends” so you can register a bunch of friends together and everyone can travel to it and work on it online, it could be paid for and wouldn’t affect the core game...this one might be far fetched but I’m sure a lot of us with friends irl and online would love to work on an island together.

It clearly shows how big companies (including Nintendo) are greedy. Decision they made was because of money, not because of any hardware / software system limitations.

@Living Fossil @TheDuke55 @mattu ... but WE ALREADY HAVE additional island! The Harvey Island is existing, however is strictly limited. Why not to give entire same size island for players with fixed placement of Harvey's Photo Studio? But no... if you want more islands, buy more consoles and copies of the game... Nintendo you are genius!

As cool as that would be, I have so little faith with Nintendo when it comes to effort and progress. It's always one step forward, two steps backwards. They make an awesome thing in game X, but remove it in game Y.

I'd be incredibly surprised if they meet any of my expectations of what a DLC can entail. I'm just wishing like Celeste on a meteor shower (hoo) that the DLC isn't just focused on our island and new furniture, clothes and hairstyles. I want that too, but I want MOAR content and freedom beyond the Nook Inc. Getaway Package!

Harvey's Island was the biggest disappointment as a extra feautre I've ever seen in an AC game...

BUT credit where credit is due: thanks to that silly idea, youtube creators like Evil Imp has made incredible funny entertaining AC content to watch haha. So... Silver lining.

At this point, I'm not justifying if Harvey's Island is a failure or not, however it exists.
So far, we may say we have some clear facts (not speculations):
  • Another island (not island from mystery tours) exists in the game.
  • We have constant access to this island with no extra cost.
  • We have strictly limited access, as we may just to be outside and inside of photo studio.
Some of us may remember, in City Folk we had basic set of buildings inside our town, extra ones was accessible via bus. (fact)
New Leaf gave us a special street with extra buildings, some opened already, some requires specific actions to open.
Despite numerous updates so far, we haven't received any extra building to be permanently placed on our island.

This other island, is it datamined similar to that unused door code at resident servies?

So humor me here for a bit: could this other island be linked to the pier with the bridge that isn't currently used for anything but rare fish? I think I mentioned this but Kapp'n would fit being there waiting with a sailing boat or submarine to take us to this said "new island", no?

Personally, I don't believe in anything been found in datamining process, as existence of any code doesn't promise anything found will come to the game. It's possible - but it's entirely up to developers if / when happens.
I had developed games in the past and looking now at my code sometimes I'm surprised finding things never implemented in the game.

I think this was some of misunderstanding.
When I'm talking about "another island" I mean "Harvey's Island".
When I'm talking about "Harvey's Island" I'm talking about wasted potential, about something what could easily be there, but is not.
I don't believe in anything related to pier, as pier will remain just for fishing. If developers would have intentions to use it for docking, they will never create a secret beach, just for our Redd. As I can say from my perspective - secret beach is used rarely, so there is a space and opportunity for many other ships.
I don't believe in any additional (extra / +1) island, where mini games would be played. (NL)

What I want to say is only one thing. Harvey's Island exists. Harvey's Island without restrictions we have currently could be a place for many things.
Do I believe it will ever happens? No, I don't - because most probably big N assumed, if one island is not enough, one will buy another and another console with fresh copy of the game and will be happy.

The best ray of light I could share with that would be Nintendo's shareholders and major decision makers will at least clock the sales numbers of Animal Crossing and want to keep the game in the charts via continued media activity and promotion.

Such succesful sales, some might say is an indication the game needs no more work, but more likely the executives will see the opportunity for what it is, to create a fair weather product. As sales slightly dip more marketing and potentially more updates and features to drive industry media coverage and sales would make sense. It'll not doubt be a conversation between the senior leadership team and development team about what can be best achieved.

Nintendo do things their own way, they always have. But long gone are the days where they are not acutely ware of success of games like Fortnite. They'll always have their values and way of doing things, but they are making small progressive changes, and fortunately the team developing Animal Crossing is largely those who did Splatoon, one of their more progressive and modern games in terms of style and release.

No doubt Nintendo expect strong sales from AC based on New Leaf, but being the no.2 product on switch, potentially no,1 in the future and the impact on markets in asian no doubt will encourage then to do more, even more spinoffs. But these changes will take time to filter down to the dev team, who are probably still on the schedule they had established before the game was released and the player base grew.

I guess I could say I'm cautiously optimistic that we will see some really cool stuff in the future.

Ah I understand. But I don't agree that Harvey's Island should be the limit to what "can be" so to speak. I mentioned the pier and Kapp'n just because he has a history with his boat waiting by the pier to take off.

And the secret island existed before Redd came in the update, so a similar thing COULD happen with Kapp'n and the pier because it just seems too... Important somehow on the map. Having a bridge by the water to just catch 4 fishes or so in total for all the seasons. Doesn't add up to my mind.

About the programming and coding, previous dataminers did predict things that eventually came such as art, swimming, farming and more.

In the datamine we got some months ago was cooking, vegatables and more so I believe all unused codes stand for something. Including that door in resident services. My prediciton is it will be some sort of nod to either the Post Office being re-opened but with a different purpose, or Happy Home Academy with Lyle and maybe other NPC working? I don't know.

Nintendo has as you put it, always been in the left field of things. Always doing their own thing, even if it's counter productive. Add one thing, remove it later. Make crazy gameplay ideas and controllers, etc etc.

But as you also said, the fact that the AC team was responsible for Splatoon is a very good sign. A more modern team of devs. This can bode well for what is to come for New Horizons.

Just a little disappointed we didn't get splatoon clothing and such as a nod to Splatoon 2 if say, you ownwd the game already. It could have synced to NH save data.

...Similar to how Pokémon Let's Go P/E was sent to Sword/Shield that the game had save data and then you got a gift in S/S.

I'm not saying Harvey's Island is the limit or only one correct solution. Not at all. It was just an example and fact, that another island is existing and playable - however with restrictions. I want to say, no one can tell "Switch is not powerful enough to give option to play on bigger / multiple islands".
I honestly wishing for all players to have a maximum of interesting content.
Another subject is datamining - as existence of some sort of code, mechanics doesn't prove we will got this feature in a specific period of the time. Maybe some of those features will be a part of future update, maybe this features are not good enough in someone's opinion and they hold releasing it, maybe it meant to be released in more distant future or maybe could be unlocked as paid DLC.

Yes, Harv has his island therefore in theory, another island exists. But I never counted it as a seperate area somehow. I'm curious if one where to hack the game, could you walk around that island or is it just a visual illusion that there is more behind and around his house? Haha.

Now to touch upon datamining again, you might absolutely be right it might go unused forever since ideas and concepts can change mid-progress, but I like to think there is some value here im hints of what is still likely to come.

The cooking and vegatables is a given by now. We can only wait and see what codes hides on the next update pack :)

I would say though that when it comes to the past datamines by Ninji...all the past updates were predicted by his datamines, redd, Leif, swimming, Luna and dreamsuites. So always take a datamine with a degree of caution but I don't think the code that was found was leftover code from a dropped feature or something in the early beta stage, it is most likely part of an upcoming feature. When and what exactly is still in question

I do think they can definately do more, with more islands. There is no real limit to other characters getting their own island like harvs. The Happy Home Academy would be a great example. an island where we can travel to and do tasks for non island villagers such as decorating homes for them based on a specific theme or request.
..similar to how it works in pocket camp, that would be another fun thing to do.
