I don't really care about keeping their houses original! I'll try to stick with whatever theme they've got going on just to keep it consistent and because I feel like they'd like the furniture more. It can be tricky with gifting furniture because I'm never sure what they'll choose to replace 😅 I gave Murphy a clay stove because I thought it matched with his interior but I totally blanked on Egbert and gave him a bubblegum/candy machine without thinking of his house, lol. He's got sort of a spa theme going on in his home? And now he's replaced one of the little stone fire thingies with the bubblegum machine 😂

This was actually kind of nice in regards to the villagers with starter homes - they were all pretty neutral (save for Phoebe and her loud multicoloured block furniture lol) so whatever pieces I gave them seemed to fit. Bam has since moved out but his house was the most fun to work with! I gave him a little race car bed, one of those baseball glove chairs, and some other little things that I thought suited him and his jock personality. It was really cute!

The only thing I don't love to give them is bugs or fish. They always seem to ask for the ugliest species for starters (dgkhdsg Murphy asked for a loach the other day and Diana has a flea on display 😭) and they just don't look nice in their homes. I think maybe if the display containers were nicer it wouldn't be so bad! I think the sea butterflies display isn't so bad and maybe some of the other smaller fish but for a lot of them I just don't love how they look when displayed.

I'd prefer my villagers to have nice houses, but I'm not going to choose someone based solely on that. I also enjoy seeing their interiors change over time.

I think it's sort of exciting to see the different house themes that villagers bring. I don't have a preference, at least not one that would stop them from moving in.

I don’t really mind what my villagers houses look like, most often I pick a villager based on their looks and if I find them appealing and by what personality they are. When I’m looking for certain villagers to invite I don’t usually know what their houses look like till they move in and all the ones I’ve had so far have all had good homes which haven’t put me off the villager.

If I was really stuck between a few villagers on my island for who to keep and who to let leave then I’d probably take the house interior into consideration to help make a decision if I was really stuck and if I had a particular island themed I’d be strict about the house exteriors but currently it’s not a high priority for me.

Yes, I care about houses. I have a certain aesthetic going on with my island, and while it is not a dealbreaker when choosing villagers, I do hop online to see what their home looks like inside and out.

I only care about the exterior of villager's houses - for example, I specifically have Eric living near my campsite because his house looks like a log cabin, and I decorate surrounding areas according to what each house looks like. However I don't care at all what the inside looks like because I pretty much never go into villagers' houses.

don't care about either, i especially don't care about their interior, i enjoy giving them gifts i think they'll enjoy and if that ruins their house then so be it tbh

I care about their exterior to some extent. I have a line up of villagers in mind for when my town is 'finished' so their houses will fit in certain areas. In my town area I want two villagers with similar houses to be neighbors, like Dotty and Portia, Diana and Ruby or Leopold and Anchovy.

I'm not really impressed with any of the villager interiors. If I'm not keeping a villager then I won't give them gifts that will change their house, but for permanent residents I like giving them some items that match what they already have.

Not really, only time I go inside of there houses is when I'm interested in picking up a DIY. Some of my villagers have cool rooms and other just make you wonder. Would never a villager off my island just because I'm not a fan of their home.

I don’t really care about my chosen villagers original houses. It is their home so like friends I don’t judge 🙂

I must confess that I have always tried to keep villagers ungifted (beginning to question this tbh) and when a cycling shirt suddenly appeared in Julians gorgeous celestial house I did get a little upset. It must have been a gift I delivered from someone 🥺

I tried to make it work and got him a racing bicycle which I parked outside his house to try and make his new hobby work. His choice so got to keep him happy 😊

I’m not super picky, but I don’t like super similar houses. I ended up not inviting Tipper bc her house is almost a clone of Flurry’s on the outside and Flurry is my favorite villager. The plots were next to each other so I thought it would look silly.

I do take a quick look at the inside there are only a handful I’d turn away due to the inside. The cuter a villager is the more likely I will accept an odd house. If I’m on the fence about a villager during a hunt sometimes I look at the house to help me decide.

i’ve more relied on villagers i like/villagers that fit my island theme rather than houses, so it really doesn’t matter to me

I don’t look up house interiors or anything but I prefer them to have nice interiors or at least one that makes sense. For instance I had invited Chief to my island because I needed a cranky. I wasn’t super crazy about his design which I felt looked more smug than cranky but his house interior was a literal dump. Yuck. Pheobe on the other hand has a house interior that makes sense even though I’m not crazy about it.

I care very much because I check on my villagers every day, so I go inside their houses quite often. I love Merry and her house exterior, but I find her music choice very unfortunate and her wallpaper just.. burns my retinas. I decided I can't keep her because being in her house doesn't spark joy for me.

i tried to have all the different houses' exterior because i don't really like to have the same exterior over and over... ;-;

I don't care at all about the interiors. Homes should look lived in and if you wanna live in a literal dump go right ahead. Exteriors though? No pastels. Ever. I love you Whitney but I'm trying to maintain a certain image here.

I don't care at all. I like see new things I would never do myself, but I do care about my house and wish I could change my house and the main buildings to the zen theme like in ACNL. Maybe one day, but I don't like any of the current looks for the player houses.

I go back and forth. I tend to not care about the interiors all that much, though I do try and gift villagers a circulation of stuff that fits in with their houses to keep it new but also not let it look like a total disaster.
Exterior is a different story. I like variety and one thing I love about my current group of villagers is that they all have houses that are starkly different from one another. Different colors, roofs, doors, all of it helps to differentiate them even further than the other characteristics we have for our villagers. So, for example, when I moved Celia in and saw that she had almost the exact same exterior as my fave Julia, I was quite put-off to say the least. I loved Celia and I did keep her for a bit to try and get over it, but it just bugged me personally too much. Especially since the houses were right next to each other at first, making them all too easy to compare.

I do like for the interior to stay the same, but I don't care about the exterior, as the outside of their houses don't even change.

I care about both but in the sense that, I want their exterior to ideally fit my theme (although I have been lazy on my redecoration into Forest-core). For the interior, I don't really mind what it looks like, as long as it is original. I generally don't give gifts to villagers that they'll put into their house unless it's extremely specific. I ended up letting go of villagers, to refind / hunt for them again because of ugly gifts that other villagers had me give them for their mini quests.
