I do care somewhat about exteriors.. but not so much for my current villagers as I've already grown to like them despite their exteriors. If I really like a villager I'll try my best to work around their house, even if it looks like a trash can. I like to consider exteriors because it's a good starting point for me to get a sense of how to arrange villager neighbourhoods. If I ever were to bring in a new villager, a good exterior is a must. I would probably consider their exterior over the actual villager themselves 😅

As for interiors, I don't mind what they look like at all! I still have my first five starters with their weird DIY furniture and terrible gift choices and it doesn't bother me. The "outdoorsy" looking interiors are more entertaining and fun to see for me rather than your typical house. I love seeing these kinds of houses when I visit friends (since my villagers all have normal looking interiors).

I won't turn down a villager I like just because their house interior is bad, but I do like to come up with ways to change and improve their furniture. Sometimes it's easier than others, and sometimes it seems like there's just not much that can be done to make their houses all that great. But it can still be fun to try (and frustrating).

I said I don’t care, but that’s not actually true. I do care, it’s just that I don’t care enough to change my mind about getting a villager I want or don’t want.

take Weber and deena, who both live on my island now - I hate both of their interiors! I like villagers with homey houses, and theirs are particularly bad to me in that regard. I had ruby previously and was constantly trying to give her real furniture (even though I do understand why her house looks like that)

I don’t particularly like Sydney’s exterior (though I love her interior) and in general I think a really bad exterior would bother me more than a bad interior because i would see it more, but but so far I have not had any that were so bad or good that it changed how I felt about that villager.

I do wish my villagers had more colorful house exteriors. I‘d love to a have a bunch of bright, mismatched colored houses. Some of the villager houses are so pretty and bright - like pinky’s and pate’s and tangy’s and annabelle.

I don't care about their exterior, although I haven't really checked to see if there are any villager house exteriors that I don't like. So far I haven't come across any bad ones though (a few have been fairly bland, but I don't really care about that much), and the NH exteriors seem much nicer than the messes that some of the NL ones were.

I do care about interiors, though; I prefer when villagers have houses that actually look livable and comfortable, but I wouldn't turn down a villager for it or want to keep them less (the one possible exception I can think of is Jacob; I think I'd still invite him because he looks really cool, but I'd be unlikely to keep him forever because his house is literally a garbage heap and I'd feel uncomfortable just walking in). I don't like the houses of my two starters, especially because I've seen other people's starting villagers who chose colourful walls and tables and such, but Cobb and Diva each just stuck with a house full of brown and nothing else. ;\ I guess the good part is that I don't care about letting them buy my bugs and fish since they don't have a nice house to ruin! I've been gifting them new furniture for the past few days though, so hopefully I can make them look nicer. I don't want to move them out because of their houses, but I do have to fight the temptation sometimes!

I don't care about interiors, but I care like...a tiny bit about their exterior. Mostly, I'd like the exterior style to match their surroundings. To some degree I'm willing to redecorate an area for a villager that I want to stick around, like swapping up furniture, flowers, etc., but I don't want a super cabin-y looking house in the middle of my downtown urban area, you know? Part of why I changed my theme up (from cottagecore to urban downtown and surrounding countryside) was so that I could accommodate a wider range of villager house exteriors, but now and again there's a house exterior that makes things hard, lol.

That said, I tend to be pretty minimal in gifting my villagers. Usually, it's a couple clothing items, and then a matching furniture item if I need to boot the clothing from being displayed in their house to into their actual wardrobes (squints @ Marshal and Olive who both did this to me and were promptly smacked with potted plants). I tend not to give them bugs or fish, and usually turn down delivery requests from other villagers.

...after writing this all out, I guess I do care about both.

Sort of. I choose the villagers I like, but if I have to boot some off the list of potential permas, their houses do play a role.

Once they're on my island, I care a lot about keeping their interior intact overall, and only gift them small items they can put on other furniture.

I care a little bit about the exterior but in general they all adhere to one of the house types and it really just is a color that might make them different, which isn't a big deal. I do care somewhat about interiors, but not in the way they are styled, just that everything is cohesive. I really hate when villagers replace their furniture items with gifts or huge fish tanks and stuff and you have no way of putting their house back together. I also really don't jive with the starter homes. I've never kicked someone out because of it and probably wouldn't but it still bothers me sometimes. Like gee you replaced your couch with a huge sea bass tank- what sense does that make?!? 😂

Yes, I care about the exterior because sometimes it doesn't match with what I had planned for this villager. I care less about the interior but I have a strong preference for villagers with interesting interiors!

I don't care about the interiors (since I don't go inside much anyways), but exteriors sliiightly factor into my choices. I have one villager I kept for his super pretty house exterior, but he ended up being one of my favs because of his comically bad fashion sense lol

I typically choose a villager based on who they are, and their personality.

99% of the time I don't mind, and I'll even base areas off the vibe of the house they already have, however I have not gotten rid of villagers because I liked how their house fits in to a particular area haha.
For example, Zucker's house looks pretty neat in my little farm area, so I ended up replacing someone else instead 👌

When I follow a theme, usually I choose some characters for reasons; animal, appearance... but now, the most important thing is the house. I'm planning to make a "fairy" and Chinese island (so inspiration Peter Pan and the dramas I'm watching and I love as The Untamed or Word of Honor) so the exterior is important to be nicely put in the forest, or in the temple... I'll see that later of course. But yes, I'm looking for some houses with Asian exterior or nature one like Tabby!
Raymond's house for example is not good.

Personally, I don’t care what their houses look like. I like my villagers to be able to express themselves. One of my favorite villagers is Walt. I consider the inside of his house to be a dumpster fire, but its not my house. As long as the outside doesn't look horrible I'm good.

i don't care about their houses, as long as they don't have the Japanese looking houses like ken's house (it doesnt fit my theme)i dont really care about their interior or exterior. even if they did have a house that doesnt fit my theme i wont turn them down just because the way their house looks.

The only time it's ever really come up is when I replaced Kiki with Rudy and thought something went wrong since their houses look almost identical from the outside. Lucky, no villager I've ever wanted had a truly hideous exterior or interior house!

i care a lot about interiors if it's a 'starter' villager, especially if its one i especially love. genji's a starter villager of mine and i've been procrastinating finding somebody to help move him out and move 'im back in. i don't get why they can't just get their original interiors after a certain point...

otherwise, i really don't care! i try and integrate it into my island's design, and it really helps makes an area feel more personalized.

Personally, I do care a bit about how their interiors and exteriors of their houses. In fact, there has been a villager or two that I have gotten rid of becuase I disliked their interior or exterior.

I don't really care what their houses look like, as long as I like the villager than I don't really mind what their house looks like.

I didn't used to care... but then I changed. A darkness seeped in and a sick sense of power took over. It wasn't enough for a villager to have a cute design anymore, or to have a stylish interior... no - if the outside walls of their house didn't match my forest island theme then they were SENT PACKIN'.

I don't like what I have become, but i'm in too deep. Bob and his sickly yellow house with clashing roof, and bright red door is in my sights. His number is up, he knows it, and he hides.
