One of my favorite things to do in New Leaf was to help my favorite villagers customize their house with custom furniture. So, I do like doing that. The only interiors that really bother me are the trash filled ones. I also really wish we could gift the villagers wallpaper, flooring, rugs, and having wall items.

Ok. I guess the interiors do matter than me more than I thought. But I wouldn't turn away a villager just because of the interior.

if i really love a villager i likely won't let the exterior/interior influence whether i get them. i might be less likely to keep them longterm, though. i don't have any permanent dreamies atm.

if i really love the exterior/interior of a villager i'm way more likely to give them a chance, even if i am less into the villager themself. it gives them a little more character and helps me appreciate them even if they aren't my usual cup of tea.

Lemme tell you, in New Leaf I was a total martinet about house exteriors. Like I searched through compiled photographs of villager exteriors and made a list of "unacceptable" and "acceptable" houses. Because some of their houses looked really bad! Static was on my island for years it felt like, and walking past his bright purple tin-walled shanty with barb wire fencing (RIGHT next to my town hall) was like a Static shock to my heart every time! Before I even got New Horizons I started looking up my favorite villagers' exteriors to see how bad they were, only to find that they're all fine! Same general shape, slight differences in roofing and wall type, but no tin, no barbed wire, no terribly garish colors--so I'm happy with pretty much whatever these days. I have the power to put their house wherever I like, and to put whatever I like in their yard, that's enough for me.

I only really care for the exterior. Most interiors in New Horizons, in my opinion, are kiiiiinda lackluster or just plain ugly/meh.

I mostly care about the interior because I like visiting them at home. I've only ever moved one villager out because of the look of the house though. That was Gala. She was such a little cutie in my campsite tent then I moved her in and it was like she was a gangsta living inside a bank vault or jail or something. So weird. I was not a fan and moved her out. Too bad because she really was a cutie. It may not have bothered me if her house seemed to match her. But the whole aesthetic was just weird to me.

She’s a piggy bank :D

I'm not too particular about my villagers homes. For the most part, I care more about the villager that occupies the home.

When it comes to gifting villagers items, I think mostly about what would look good on them for clothing, and what fits their aesthetic if it is going into their home.

I do a bit. I prefer their interiors to look nice (though all my villagers end up displaying at least piece of clothing since I gift everyone a wardrobe when they move in) but am more picky about their exteriors- I'll move in a villager I like less because their house fits better on my island. I like my island to look nice and move houses around to where they fit, so the right exterior makes all the difference! I'll make exceptions for villagers I love, though. Like, I love Paula and her exterior is lovely... but I feel like Nintendo dropped the ball completely on her interior. It doesn't fit her at all, IMO. And Bonbon is PRECIOUS with a lovely interior, but her exterior doesn't seem to match at all.

I also moved Octavian in recently and I love him, but his exterior and interior are so contrasting it's bizarre. Like, I like both of them... but he has a traditional Japanese exterior and a space alien interior. ...Huh? I won't move him out over it, it's just weird!

I pay attention to both interiors and exteriors. I like the houses to match the themes I have, which change. I've had an island with all white and pastel houses, all dark houses, Japanese style houses, etc.

I really hate the bright primary color exteriors but someday I hope to make a superhero island and have a bunch of those villagers with the costumes and bright houses. I'll also bring Sprocket, the robot bird.

When deciding who I wanted to have live on the island? No, that wasn't a consideration. Once I had them moved in, I did set up the two neighborhoods so that the houses looked nice together and made sense in their location - I have one beach group and one forest group. Fortunately, the exteriors worked out well for that.

I care a bit about their exterior but I'd never not move in a fav villager because I didn't like what their house looked like. I'd be more disappointed than anything.

I don't really mind what their house looks like. Each has their own personal flair to them which I appreciate. I used to dislike Mira's interior but I find it suits her so it's grown on me.

I do care about the interior of the house. I really like the villagers that have the spring, summer, fall, and zen looks inside.

It’s important for me because it fits with the aesthetics of my island and because I want to enjoy visiting my villagers in their homes.

When I invite villagers via the campground or scan them in, I always look up to see what their interior is. I care less about the exterior and it’s a bonus if it looks nice.

I used to really like Chief in NL, but I haven’t wanted to have him on my island because of the graffiti interior. I also really loved Sterling in NL, but his interior looks like a jail cell :<

Not at all. I can acknowledge when a house is pretty/ugly, but it's never been a deciding factor as to whether I'd keep or kick a villager.

Sort of. If I like the villager, I can usually get over the way their house looks (inside and outside), but I don't really like the ones where their interior is made to look like an outside scene. Also, for villagers that I intend to keep for a long time, I will definitely look around their rooms to see if I could improve them.

“both because i run a dictatorship” took me OUT 💀 but i personally don’t care about villager houses at all - it’s never been a consideration of mine when choosing my villagers and once they’re on my island, they’re still free to do whatever they’d like with their interior, even if it means having a bunch of bugs and fish everywhere. 😅

Although if its nice I will be happy. Just don't care enough for it to fact in to any decisions.

The inside however can be a bit of a deal breaker.
Its not the end of the world I suppose but if I was on the fence, this can push me off it.

For a long time I didn't care about how their homes looked at all, but now that I've pretty much gotten my island the way I want it, the look of the exteriors matters a whole lot. I decorate the areas around their houses to match, and it's a pain to redecorate half the island every time. Much easier if I can keep a cabin-looking home in a forest area, or a beach-looking home in a beach area. I don't usually like exteriors that are too 'out there' for this reason, though I have tried to make a couple of them work. It wouldn't necessarily hold me back from a villager I really wanted, but whether or not it's worth changing everything around for them definitely factors into it. So yeah, I guess I run a 'dictatorship' in that respect? The interiors don't really matter to me, at least, because most of them are equally wacky as far as I'm concerned  It's part of the reason I still have a couple of starter homes, because at least their interiors actually look like normal homes!

Tbh not really, I mean it would be better if their houses fit my island theme but I'm more so concerned on how they look like and if they themselves fit my island theme rather than their houses...

I don't really care what my villager homes look like. I don't want to give them bugs, fish, and clothes because they always display them in the worst places. Other then that, when I invite them to the island I don't mind what their interior looks like. I still have Butch and his home is just an abandoned pitstop and it feels more like a gag then a place someone would actually live, but I haven't moved him out.

Some of the homes are definitely better then others and some just went overboard with the gags. I have Flora as a starter and I will keep her that way because her actual home is a watering hole with Flamingo props and fire. It just looks so wrong.
