Do you speak another language?

My native language is Dutch! During secondary school I took compulsary courses in French, German and Spanish too, but any skills aside from recognizing the occasional vocabulary has long since left me (not that I was very skilled in the first place lol). Now I'm studying Japanese in university, which seems to be a very popular language on here! I passed the N2 level of the JLPT in 2019 and I'm currently slowly but surely(?) working my way up to the coveted N1 level. There's still a long road ahead and I'm going to keep trying my best! Respect to everyone else studying Japanese as well, we got this ^^

I was born in the US, but since my parents are Chinese immigrants I learned fuzhonese and mandarin first. I was very fluent in both but then I started school and English became my dominant language. Now I mainly speak English, can understand mandarin a little bit (barely speak it), and only speak a little bit of fuzhounese to my mom. My Chinese has been going downhill since I don’t live at home with my mom anymore and my siblings usually just speak English to each other. I also took Spanish classes in middle school and high school, so I understand and can speak a fair amount. I’ve been watching a lot of kdramas lately, so been slowly picking up a good amount of Korean words from that. I would love to properly learn Korean and Japanese someday.

I speak English and Korean with native/conversational fluency -- until I started to go to school, I basically only spoke Korean. I haven't ever lived in Korea though, so my command over vocabulary isn't as brushed-up as someone who lives in Korea.

I have intermediate proficiency in Japanese (graduated from university before reaching the JLPT-test courses lol) and can speak survival-level Spanish.

omg are you me?? Bc this is basically my answer 😆

I’m Korean so I speak fluent Korean (just not business Korean) especially since majority of my family doesn’t speak English.

I took Japanese in uni & stopped just before taking N3 and can also speak survival-level Spanish. My schooling was in English so it’s my primary language now so I mostly dream & think in English

omg this is almost literally me to the T... :D nice to know i'm not alone!

I'm learning Japanese currently. To be honest I don't really care for it, I only took the class since it's a graduation requirement here and the other languages my school offers sounded more boring to me.

Wow surprised but also not surprised to see so many people have interest in Japanese!

I can speak Chinese, and English. I probably do have a very good reason to learn Japanese though because of my work and company, but I just casually pick it up from watching too much anime rather than systematically take lessons lol also I think knowing hanzi/kanji also helps.

I can also appreciate French. I did take French for two years in high school but I think Whatver my French teacher have taught me I have already given back to her hahaha

I could have learned Hindi if my dad wasn't a jerk and actually taught it to me.

My native language is English, and I'm learning Korean and Russian. I started learning Korean because I like Korean music and variety shows, and I'm at an intermediate level now. I've only been learning Russian since the beginning of this month, so I'm a super beginner still.

I'm gonna add to this thread's collection and say that I am ALSO learning Japanese lmao. I took it on because I'm really big into obscure retro games and I was getting pretty tired having to rely on translation patches/walkthroughs.

So one day while messing around in Moon for PS1 (this is way before it was localized for Switch) I was like, "you know what, I'm really sick having to pick each individual kana from a picture chart in order to write it down for a shoddy auto-translation."
So in that same instance I went down a Duolingo rabbithole and through intense wrote-memorization, learned hiragana in a day. And I've been going ever since. I bought a lifetime subscription to WaniKani for kanji and some vocab and I just burned 100 Kanji so far! Not much when you consider that theres over 2000 but still an exciting milestone.
I have a monthly subscription to Lingodeer and it's a really nice upgrade from Duo LOL. I'm wanting to try out Bunpro too since I've heard good things about it.

Also been enjoying みんなの日本語 textbooks, and youtubers like 'Japanese from Zero!', 'Japanese Ammo with Misa' and 'Miku Real Japanese'. As well as following people like akokitamura and kayoshodo on twitter for bite-sized stuff for immersion.

I'm kind of REALLY obsessed with language-learning now, it's turning out to be my favorite hobby. I'm also interested in Arabic and Farsi but I'd rather get to a more comfortable spot with Japanese before taking on another one.

Not fluently. I'm American but tend to be better at understanding other languages rather than speaking them. I'm best at speaking/understanding Spanish, but I also know a little Japanese, German, Low-German/Plattdeutsch. I also know a few words and phrases in French, Russian, Latin, Greek, and a few other languages I'm sure I'm forgetting, but I don't know if that counts. I love learning about other languages and cultures as well as linguistics in general and wish I could learn all of the languages!

English is my first language, but I can also speak German after studying it in school (and going abroad to Germany). I can also understand some Spanish from my family, but I can't speak it very well!

Only English, I know someone that speaks five other languages though; how cool is that?

I discovered I'm not good at learning languages when I chose French for one of my GCSE classes and only managed to scrape a C

Sadly I can only speak English, but I do know a little basic French and some Japanese phrases (not impressive bc I've been watching anime and other Japanese media for 10 years and I'm still not proficient in the language).

The college I went to put a big priority on learning a second language (our president was Latino), and my mother enjoyed Spanish, so I took several courses of Spanish. It helped me a lot when I was substitute teaching in a community with a lot of Guatemalan immigrants (Carthage, MO).

I'm a Frenchie so I mainly speak french, but english has a huge spot in my life! When I talk to myself it'll usually be in english, same thing goes for my fake interviews/award winning ceremonies.
I was forced to take Spanish and German classes at school but I hated it so I guess I can just introduce myself in thoses languages.
But I also took Japanese classes which were amazing! I can understand a few things, however talking would be a bit harder for me though.

I can speak in another language, but I speak English 100% or mainly of the time.

My first language is English but yo hablo un poco español. I've taken about three years total of Spanish between high school and college.

I also know some very basic Japanese because I took a year of it in high school as well. I'm considering trying to teach myself Japanese.

I only speak Swedish (my native language) and English. I did take German for a few years and do understand... a little, but I would not by any means feel comfortable speaking or even listening to German. Also, since I had a weeb phase when I was 13, I do know a little Japanese, but it's very basic. So I only speak Swedish and English, basically.

Since Norwegian and Danish are very similar to Swedish I understand when people speak it, but I don't know either language, I just understand most of it.

Im brazilian
So porruguese is my main language
Also i speak english and spanish
And ive studied a little of japanese but im far from fluent

My native language is Spanish and English is my second language. I know a bit of French (on intermediate level) and learning Japanese and Korean.
