I've always like the cranky wolves (now I don't like Chief's house, but I like the others, so Fang, Wolfgang and Lobo), but I also like Camofrog, Apollo, Avery, Butch and Bruce (Bruce is currently with me and I love the guy but I can't stand his house so I plan on changing him by one of the wolves).
About normals, they're my favorite personality, but it's difficult to choose..., I love Goldie, Eunice, Deena, Savannah, Lily, Kitt, Sylvana, Molly, Gayle, Merengue, Aurora, Bea, Chevre, Nan, Dora, Flurry, Kiki, Maple and Mitzi, but I also like Vesta, Tia, Stella, Skye, Poppy, Norma, Marina, June, Celia and Gladys. I could filled a lot of islands just with normal villagers, lol.

Cranky: Roscoe, Static (before his face change in NL, though)

Normal: Sally, Fauna, Poppy... I don't want three normals though so I have yet to see who I like best or of the three. Though it looks like at least Sally will stay forever. Love her lazy eyes and colouring!

Also really like Savannah (WW nostalgia) and many of the others normal designs... They were made to be cute.

Normals are my favourite personality! Love talking to them about books and such, they are close to my own personality (imagine all the hurt from many people saying they are boring, lol)

For cranky’s it’s Bruce and Apollo for me. I had Bruce in NL and he moved out I was so upset my husband found me his amiibo so now I’ll never lose him again. Apollo moved into my NH and I like him a lot too. Reminds me of an old bachelor

Cranky: Wolfgang, Tom and Cyrano all of whom I have / had in past games. Wolfgang is hilarious always looking up flowers in his encyclopedia. (Kinda reminds me of my Dad who always reads 100% of the text in museums and takes forever lmao)

Normal: Nan (was a starter and really grew on me), Kiki, Coco. Possibly Merengue but I never had her.

I love normals and crankies, too. I have Hamphrey in my town and he's so cute. There are too many great normals to list but my current one is Kiki.
I got so excited when one of my first three plots was sold to Nana because I thought it was Nan, the lovely little goat I had in my NL town. So disappointed with the weird pink monkey that showed up! I booted her out with an amiibo.

Cranky villagers are my favorite, I wouldn't have 4 of them if it wasn't for that lol
Besides Apollo, Avery, Cyd and Frank (who I have) I really like Walt, Vic, Rasher, Hamphrey, Hopper, Gonzo, Boris, Croque and Bruce. Kinda also like Ike and Murphy lol
My other favorites are smug villages, so I can't really comment on normals
Edit: After a quick search on normal I really like.... Flurry.... lol

It's something to keep in mind in regards to personalities because with having only two, you'll be missing out on a lot.

Gaston and Savannah are my two all-time favorites in Animal Crossing but there are a ton of other cool normals and crankies like;
Rolf, Hamphrey, Del (currently living in my town), Roscoe, Rasher, Molly, Norma (also currently living in my town), Annalisa, Tutu and Maple just to mention a few.

My favourite cranky villagers are Static, Roscoe, Octavian and Knox!
I find it difficult to like normal villagers as they are too nice sometimes! But my favourite normal villagers are Gayle, Tia, Skye and Lily! Pekoe is cute as well but mainly fits a Japanese / Chinese theme

crankies and normals are my favorites too, but i can't imagine having five of each! i'm really big on diverse dialogue/personalities so i'd be concerned they'd all say the same things over and over.

that being said, my favorite crankies are wolfgang, lobo, kabuki & bruce, while my favorite normals are lolly, savannah, poppy & coco
