A lot of my favourite villagers are normal as I love the cute designs of some of them but the dialogue can get quite repetitive. The top ones for me are Fauna, Marina, Goldie, Maple and Molly, honourable mentions to Skye and Lolly.
I don't currently have any cranky villagers but I really like the majority of wolf villagers, especially Chief and Fang, and Bruce and Butch are another two that I'd consider moving to my island when I eventually have a change of villagers.

My favourite crankies are Cyd, Hamphrey, Spike, and Butch! I'd fill my island with crankies if I could... I love the cranky personality. My favourite normals are Jambette and Nana!
Cyd is probably one of my favourite villagers now. He's just such a cool elephant and a perfect big bro to the best villager Dizzy

My favorite Normals are Cally and Eunice. My favorite Crankies are Grizzly and Del. Nothing too special why, I've just have had them before and I've liked them!

normal: maple, caroline, lolly, ellie, goldie, eunice, bea, chevre, fauna, june, coco, kiki, margie, mitzi, olive, sylvana, nan, pekoe, melba, savannah, tia, poppy, skye, vesta, stella
so maybe maple and apollo are my favourites? but then fauna & bea are also super cute and i really want boris or lobo but i also wanna keep apollo
