Flowers are worse than weeds

At least weeds you can just...pick up.

With flowers it's like.

Shovel them. Cover holes so you can shovel more. Accidentally pick a flower while you try covering the hole with dirt without using the shovel because you're trying to save proficiency on the shovel. Reel off and start shoveling holes closed because your pockets are getting full. Shovel breaks, go buy/make a new shovel. By the time you're done for the night you're exhausted just looking at flowers and don't wanna pull up any more. It rains in the next few days. Flower explosion. Cry.

You know what I wish? That they'd make like...a tractor you could drive over them that harvests the flowers. Now maybe, flowers picked this way wouldn't be suitable for DIYS anymore, to encourage careful picking-and then people could have little "hand-grown, hand-picked!" flower shops when they sell on forums and it'd still be cute as heck. But I'm. So desperately tired of flowers.

It gets worse with the beautiful island ordinance. There is an over abundance of flowers on my island. Hardly any weeds.

I agree, I hate having a lot of of flowers on my island and its infested with hybrids that i dont want and hyacinths.
Because of this, I didn't enable beautiful town ordinance.

It gets more annoying that my shovel breaks often when I try to dig them up and sell them

I reached a point where I didn't play for weeks because I found the flowers to be overwhelming in my town then it took me HOURS of playing to clear them out into nice little patches. At the moment, I find it to be managable but it was probably 5 or so hours of work to get it to that point. I hate how the flowers grow in this game.

I put a clear path around the ones I don't want to breed together so I don't have an issue with mine but I do agree that picking up a huge amount of flowers with the shovel is unbearable. I'm glad they made the flowers sturdier but at what cost??? My sanity???

Agreed. I hate that you have to use the shovel for them. Why can't we just pick them up like we used to? Rage inducing.

Digging holes and filling in holes does not use shovel durability.

After digging a flower, just use your shovel to fill the hole.

I have never agreed with a thread title more. The things are a menace. Both of my islands are overrun with flowers and I dread the time it's going to take to get them under control.

This is my problem, especially since I was so eager to breed flowers early on. I use the clear path trick, but with areas I’m indecisive the flowers spread quickly and I just don’t have the time or energy to deal with them most days.

Its an invisible path so you can still place it around the flowers without causing issues.
Even if it is random patches of flowers

On my old island I did it around all my flowers.
Even the single flowers I had on their own.

its a nice idea but its so hard to clean the clear custom pathing because its just clear, like you know, clear, and i cant see it. thanks, anyways.

Proficiency only gets used when you dig up items, not when you fill in/dig holes.

Interesting I have the opposite issue my flowers won't breed LOL but tbf I can't design worth crap so that could be it

It is actually a lot of work to pick up and move flowers now. With weeds it’s easy, but with flowers you have to equip the shovel to dig them up, and since they each take an individual space instead of bundling in corpus, you have to constantly empty your pockets.

I did not know covering holes with shovels didn't use proficiency, that's nice.

My point still stands that digging them up is annoying and time consuming.

You can always swap out / change the design to something visible when you want to decorate, and then change it back to entirely clear when you're done. That's what I do! None of my flowers have anywhere to spread to and it has been such a blessing.

Another quick tip to anyone digging up large flower fields: any holes you dug will disappear when you save and reload the game. It may not matter for durability but you can save time by not covering the holes at all, haha.

You know why people have so many flowers on their islands? Because Isabelle is the one who kept saying "it needs more flowers" back when people cared about getting a 5 star rating on their island.

Of all QOL features needed, we certainly needed one for flowers. I had an idea early on where we could have a new tool that is gardening gloves, and if you put them on, you would pick up the entire flower.

Flowers are so gosh darn annoying in this game. =( It's such a daunting task to clean up where they've gone wild.
