Is TT considered cheating ?

If we define cheating as "something the game allows us to do", then no, it's not cheating.

Then again, I consider shaking your 3DS with your hand to get Play Coins as cheating, even though it doesn't say "please only walk around to get play coins". They're called steps, and it's pretty much inferred that you're supposed to walk-- but let's face it, a lot of people shake the 3DS for coins instead. Just like a lot of people TT in Animal Crossing.

I can't call anyone a cheater for it, no-- I'm just more impressed by the people who don't Time Travel. I think people who do Time Travel are less impressive with the stuff they achieve.

That's your opinion. Does it mean it's cheating? Not necessarily. Until nintendo dismisses TT'ing as cheating, I'm not taking your word for it.

They didn't say it was cheating anyway, they said it was a way of playing the game

hahahahaha i do that -.-

First, let's look at the definition of "cheating" in a game:

act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, esp. in a game or examination.

Changing the dates of the game is something that anybody can do. It's not "unfair" because it's not limited to certain people only. If you choose not to TT? Good for you. But you're not good or superior or even a special little snowflake for doing so.

Using TTing is no different from using the 3D feature of the game; some people like it because it enhances their gameplay, while others don't, because it negatively affects their gameplay.

Some people get bored playing just one in-game day, because eventually, there's little to nothing new to do. So they're like me, and play multiple in-game days within one real life day, or they just skip ahead a bit.

tl;dr; Animal Crossing is a game that is enjoyed in a variety of ways. It's a game that's meant to be different for everyone who plays it, and if the devs didn't want you TTing.. then they would have removed it long ago. You can whine all you want because you're jealous that other people are able to enjoy things faster than you can, but that doesn't change the fact that using a built-in feature of the game is not, nor will it ever be, cheating.

Certain people on both sides need to stop acting like they're special for doing it or not doing it. Just enjoy the damn game, you overgrown children.

You spent the $35 to buy the game for yourself, so it's yours to do whatever you want with. Whether that means TT'ing or duping, still your choice. Duping corrupts your files if done incorrectly, so that obviously isn't what Nintendo intended as a "cool feature," but Time Travel has been available in all games and has no negative effects on the game files, just the gameplay. So if it doesn't break your game and Nintendo recognizes it's happening but doesn't do anything, then it's just a feature you can use or not. It's all depending on how you prefer to play!

Yeah, and I'm sure a lot of people do the same thing. I think it's fair to call it cheating, though-- they obviously didn't intend for you to clutch your 3DS in your hand and shake it around like crazy.

Hi I'm using TT to get a villager ready for trade and for whatever reason I feel really guilty about it! For example I had t&t mart and shampoodles under construction and them after I had TT they were both complete! Also I had a villager called Lopez moving in and with TT he was moved in right away! When things like this happen I can't help feeling really really bad, like I've cheated. What's your opinion on time traveling and should I use it for trades or should I just try and be patient as hard as that may be

Thanks for reading :)
I don't think TTing is cheating. If the developers wanted to get rid of it, they most likely could do so (such as require you to connect to the internet to recalibrate your clock). So I think you should do whatever enhances your enjoyment of the game. If TTing helps do that, then great. If you find that you can't shake the guilt you feel when you TT, then I'd say don't do it since it'd be causing you unhappiness/stress.

I wouldn't really call it cheating, more like ... Manipulating the game. Don't think it's wrong, I don't really do it but I'm ok with others doing it :)

To be fair-- Even if the developers did consider Time Travel to be cheating, I don't think they'd take it out. It's too useful to people who just plain live busy lives. Time Traveling casually, like every day, for the purpose of moving the game along because you're impatient and just want to skip to the next day, is very different from using Time Travel because you have work during certain hours and missed an event or a shop closing/opening or a whole day because your 3DS was lost. Etc.

Whoa, calm down. Stop getting so angry about how others' think about the way they play.

Yeah, I'm even too lazy to shake my 3DSxl, but I never go for the fortune cookies. However I sort of think in the same way. I see cheating as playing in a way that was not outlined in the rules, but it's sort of obvious that you're not supposed to do it. Like looking at your opponents cards while playing a card-game or peeking at the deck. It's clear that you're not supposed to do that if the point of the game is to predict your opponent's hand.

That's how I see TTing, even though it wasn't in the manual to clearly not time-travel. I don't see it as a built-in feature because it really is in the technical options menu. But anyway the point of Animal Crossing as a game is to collect items and do casual things as they come. I see it as a purposefully slow and steady game which is why it's in real-time, and TTing kind of ignores the idea behind it, by playing the game even faster and faster.

I play the game how I want to, until I'm 100% satisfied in my town then I'll continue to time travel because it's super addicting, I do wish I had another AC game so I could play the game without TT.
Once I started to TT it's so hard to go back because now it's like I always think to myself 'if I go forward a day, then maybe I'll have a few new hybrids and be able to improve my town.'
It's addicting haha.

No, it's not cheating. TT exists for those who can't handle playing the game in real-time.
TT is like playing AC in easy mode. I'm one of the awesome people who can handle playing it in extreme mode.

It's cheating when:
- The team who made the game does not know that the manipulation is happening.
- The team does know about the manipulation and tries to stop it by making a patch, or fixing it in the next game.

It's not cheating when:
- The team does know about the manipulation and either says it's okay, doesn't do anything to stop it, or continues to include it in the next game.

At least, that's my opinion. Might be wrong. *shrug*

So, in short, time-traveling is an included feature that's been around since the GameCube. If people still call it cheating, that's sort of sad. It's a feature and style of play, not something that was found by a random person as most cheats/glitches are.

Just...play AC the way that makes you happy, guys. Look at it: it's a town simulation game with fun colorful animals in your own fun sunshine-y town. Why is everyone getting so up in arms about time-traveling? It's a feature to the game, that's it. I think the last thing in the world the developers of AC had in mind while producing this game was if people were going to 'exploit' the real-time system. Use it in whatever way that makes you the happiest while you're playing. If no time-travel makes you happy, don't time-travel. If time-traveling 15 times a day makes you happy, time-travel 15 times a day. As long as you're enjoying yourself, who cares? More importantly, why would anyone care? We're here to have fun, not to judge each other's style of playing.
