Opinion on dresses?

i love dresses, they're cute and an excuse to not wear pants. plus i just like when my legs can be free and i do like revealing clothing so.

i view all clothes as gender neutral, they're all just pieces of fabric sewn together after all. your dad sounds like he's stuck in the past.

also just a personal opinion but honestly i think women look way better in suits than men do.

If anyone here is forced to wear dresses, I'd advise them to look into fake dresses like this:

I've actually bee looking at stuff like that for a while. I think they look really nice, I'm just not sure where to find them haha.

Honestly, I think a person looks best and is most confident when they wear what they are comfortable with. If that is a dress/skirt, so be it. If it's a pair of pants, go for it.

I tend toward midi-length skirts and dresses, but I also have several pairs of jeans and pants, since a skirt isn't always appropriate.

I hope things go well with your piano jury; I'm sure you'll look and sound amazing! :)

For something dressy, you might want to look for some palazzo pants. Those are the wide-leg, drapy slacks that look like a long skirt. Pair them with a nice sweater or blouse, and you have an outfit perfect for dressier occasions. They're also very comfortable! :D

Thank you! I actually played at 11 this morning (about an hour and a half ago) and it did go really well. The only bad thing was that I wore my hair down, and my hair is super long and it was being really fluffy today so it kept getting in my face lol

Dresses are fun, but some types aren't for everyone. I personally prefer cute/slightly short ones to most "sexy" ones

i dont wear them much but it feels great to wear them on a hot day. i pretty much only wear skirts tho bc i feel like they're more customisable

Both are incredibly stylish! Even if it was not to me, it is about what you like for your body.

As for myself I loveee dresses. I try to wear one whenever I can. There are lots of ways to make dresses more modest and comfortable such as opaque leggings/tights and underskirts that I use.

Your father is being very unreasonable as well. If he wanted you to wear something, he should ask nicely rather than being angry. All that is going to do is drive you away from it in the end most likely... My parents were the total opposite side of that spectrum and it was very annoying, lol.

Anyhow, I am glad your jury went well! :)

I personally will only wear dresses or skirts if I can wear leggings or shorts under. I don't like the feeling of not having pants on, even if I do have a dress to cover me. (I do wear underwear, but yeah.)

I think gendered clothing is a dated concept so I say wear whatever. I wear both suits and dresses.

Also about suits and tux and stuff I'd look like a mini servant penguin so yeah not for me :p Some people do pull em off awesome though.

Personally, I love dresses and skirts. I actually find pants to be uncomfortable and I don't like how they make my body look. I am also a modest person and as such all of my skirts are at least knee length and I wear a pair of long shorts underneath of them as well. In the fall and winter I always wear tights with them as well! I work in a nursery school and I wear a skirt every day, save for whenever we have yoga or a sporty day, then I'll wear pants. I need to be able to bend and move in my outfits and I am able to do that in my knee length skirts comfortably! I really enjoy circle skirts and dresses that have a similar fit. I like when my dresses are tighter around the waist and then they flow outwards. Either in a voluminous way or they can just fall! My ideal style is the late 40's/early 50's style dresses.

I do not feel comfortable in short skirts, tight dresses, or low/revealing necklines and I can definitely see how dresses would be off putting since those are the styles most visible in shops!

I think it's absolutely ridiculous and unfair that your dad is putting up a fuss over what you're wearing on your body. I think dress pants and a formal top is a perfectly respectable and reasonable outfit to wear to a fancy event! What matters most at the end of the day is that you're happy with yourself. Good luck with your piano exam! :D

I really like casual dresses, like cotton ones with sleeves and a nice print or something like that. I'm not big on the fancy kinds of dresses though, lmao. I never used to wear dresses when I was younger because I wasn't as in touch with my femininity as I am now. So I do like the occasional casual dress/skirt, yeah :') I prefer wearing leggings or some other type of bottom, though, with a t-shirt or long sleeve.

I like dresses, but I very rarely wear them. I own a few and don't mind wearing them for a special occasion, but they're not really my thing to wear all the time. Like you, I had a conference that I was presenting in as part of one of my courses, and the dress code was formal/smart casual. I immediately thought of wearing a dress or skirt, rummaged through my wardrobe and tried everything on. I found one skirt that I kinda liked, showed it to my parents, my dad loved it and my mum wasn't so keen. I didn't really feel comfortable in it though, so I opted for nice pants and a nice top and didn't regret it. I was surprised to see that only a handful of my classmates wore dresses too, so I didn't feel out of place.

Dresses don't really do anything for my body. Like if I wanted one to fit nicely I would have to spend a decent amount of money on it. Most summery dresses I try on are so flippin' short and uncomfortable lmao. Plus, I really hate my legs so yeah lol. The idea of women having to wear dresses to be seen as attractive/professional is extremely outdated as well.

Well.. When you view it in the light that's related to gender ideology thing, the opinion there must be obvious. But when I see it on just view of beauty, woman who's with elegant manner in beautiful dress is feast of eyes. I feel like it has more to do with the manner how they act/move/speak than their body type, that decides if the person in the dress looks beautiful or not much.

Personally I love impressive & adorable dresses like the summer dress by Dolce & Gabbana. One summer dress of theirs last summer that had elegant frills and vivid red based prints on it was like a red tropical fish (not joking here) and walking around in it was ecstatic.

Also! Just a personal idea from parent's view. WE want to SEE our daughter in cute beautiful dress!! As a parent of one girl, I'd say it's a simple desired thing that we want to see!

Nobody should have to wear anything they are not comfortable in; there lots of valid options for formal wear and anyone should be allowed to wear any of them. Forcing women to wear dresses is super old fashioned and wrong in my opinion. Personally I don't mind wearing dresses to formal events (as long as they are not short or low-cut) but I have seen so many women rock suits!

Yeah, I sometimes wear dresses, sometimes just fancy pants (lol) and a cool shirt, depends on my mood. But yeah no one should be forced to wear either just because parents or other wants it ;3

Would you please care to explain this further? With all respect for cultures, I have a hard time seeing what drives a parent so much to have their child wear something they picked out?

Explain what?
Nothing more to explain though. It's just you want to see what you adore. It's like, say, there's something you like, then you feel it cute when you happen to see it. Be it whatever. Flowers, pokemon, decorative cupcakes, whatever.
It's not about something you pick. It's nothing bad unless you're forcing them to do. Isn't it? :)
