Opinion on dresses?

I don’t think women need to wear dresses to look feminine, I have a friend with a more boyish body type and she absolutely KILLS the stylish suits and look amazing, that’s just her style! I love when women have confidence to wear suits and blazers and that sort of thing, and they can look just as feminine. Dresses aren’t for everyone and that’s not your thing! They are very revealing, and you have to be pretty comfortable with that

ok i'm sorry everyone but i HAVE to know what this means

I think what Yuki meant by "race-y" is that the dress is very revealing or is designed to draw lots of attention in a sexual sense. Correct me if I misread what you meant Yuki!

oh.. I first thought you meant "racy" as in "racy"/sexy underwear stuff first but yeah, if a dress will have laces it has to be well-made or it will look kinda cheap.

I like wearing dresses but that doesn?t mean you can?t look dressed up/elegant not wearing one

You?re an adult you get to wear what you want, if it bothers your dad that much tell him not to come lol

Well, it's hard to understate how revealing some dresses are... I've seen women and girls wear them at proms and weddings, which I quite frankly don't exactly think is the time for that sort of thing, but to each her/his own, I guess...

Well designed dresses are just so elegant even if it has parts of exposure as a part of its design, regardless of the type if it's for formal or the ones to appeal to others sexually.

i really love wearing dresses and a lot of mine are covered in animals (i.e. i've got ones with pandas ) or like floral or dotty prints. I find they are super comfy and suit my body shape well. However, if you don't like wearing dresses remain firm and wear what's comfortable for you. People should be able to wear whatever makes them the most comfortable and brings them joy. I generally am in a shirt and shorts (mainly cos its so hot in Aussie land at the moment).
also, i don't know if you have done your piano performance or not yet (forgot to look at dates) but if you haven't done it yet goodluck, wear the cute sweater and pants combo.

I think it works if they are well-designed, like you say. However, not every dress is well-designed, unfortunately. I've even seen this go as far as being on Hot Bench, which is a courtroom TV show like Judge Judy.

I like the idea of dresses too and in the past, had quite a collection of them for casual wear and events, but I am also the type of person who is most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt.
I dress up only for occasions now and that's pretty much it. Though now I opt more for a nice blouse instead. Dresses are better for formal events. I.e. cocktail dresses and gowns.
If this is a formal event, a dress would be appropriate to wear. Though, a pantsuit would be just as formal on a lady as a dress would be.
A dress would definitely be the elegant choice, but your comfort is what matters more.
I think as a woman, it's your body and you can do what you want with it, and dress however you feel most comfortable and beautiful.

I don't want to assume your situation but maybe your dad keeps trying to force the idea of dresses because he finds them beautiful and wants you to look in what he feels like would be the most beautiful on you. I also kinda feel maybe it's not about what is considered elegant but what's considered more effeminate. Though it shouldn't matter since he should find you beautiful regardless and be proud of your achievements and understand that just because you were born a female, doesn't mean you need to dress the same as everyone else. That's what matters.

Hahaha yeah. This may be off-track but when the person themselves is beautiful/elegant enough, and they're in a cheap racey dresses, it's weirdly beautiful as well. The conflicting mismatch makes peculiar beauty there.
That's one method where fashion is fun. I used to enjoy tricks that way. It's really fun regardless of the gender.

Yeah, I mean if you can wear it in a nice way I don't see the issue but if someone takes it on just to show their onions no thanks :/

Well if it's a "bad" dress you definitely have to be the right person to wear it and not look bad I'd say. I'd rather spend money on a few nicely done ones than just get whatever sexy cheap stuff they have in the mall.

I love wearing dresses! It's funny because I didn't enjoy them as a child. Over the years, I've found that jeans, leggings, and pants have become a huge pain in the butt to find. Most don't give proper circulation and dry out my skin. Because I live in a climate that isn't as cold, I could wear dresses year round if I wanted to.

This change came within recent years where I got tired of my legs feeling like they couldn't breathe. For work, I tend to wear fancier pants that aren't as constricting (even those are hard to find if you're short lol)

The only kind of dresses I wish I could wear are maxi dresses. There's so many lovely prints out there and it pains me because I can rarely survive heels. I'm looking into more petite brands to find dresses that don't make me look like so short. I love all kinds of dresses. I tend to have a feminine style (but will gladly wear geekier or bold things when needed).

As others said, no one should be forced to wear things they aren't comfortable in. I was often forced to wear whatever my folks wanted me to wear and I rebelled quite a lot as a child. Parents should embrace in the ability for a child to choose what they want to wear. (Obviously as long as it's appropriate depending on location & occasion, and age heavily comes into factor.)

I do have one rule about dresses: no see-throughs or be extremely short to avoid wardrobe malfunctions ;)

^Yeah I don't like the idea of see-through but luckily I can just use a tank top, though if they are see through all the way down you can use stockings I guess but I wish people would just cover from boobs to private parts I don't need to see what you have under lmao. I have a couple of really nice dresses (expensive desig but I loooove her work) that are somewhat see thru but you can hide it if you use a top and stocking I think. Not gonna wear white panties ew lol.

But yeah I generally hate when cheaper everyday stuff are see thru because they obviously force you to wear something underneath which a lot of time people make look horrible and you don't always want to do that either.

Personally, I love wearing a short and breezy dress. I'm the type of girl who cannot send the tightness of leggings or skinny jeans and sometimes I don't even like wearing shirts! But whenever it's warm out and I need a cooler outfit, my go to is a dress I found in the woman's shirt area of Walmart (I'm 4'11" so most shirts can be dresses for me unless they're crop tops). It's breezy and comfortable and I can move around in it with ease!

i loooove wearing sundresses but im also 5'8'' so it's hard to find a dress that isn't a maxi or something. but that's what underneath spanx are for! i also love wearing long flowy dresses too, so i dont mind that.

used to be a tomboy “i’m not like other girls” type but now i looove anything girly and pink including dresses lol

i think dresses are pretty but that people should only wear them if they actually want to, not because they feel they have to. i’m not comfortable in dresses, either, and a nice sweater + pair of pants have never done me wrong. as long as you’ve put effort into your appearance and have done the best you can, that’s all anyone can expect of you imo ;;
