Wh... Wha? Really? Oh dang. Never thought I'd see the day.

Don't even know how I feel about it. On one hand, yeah, Ash needed to retire. But on the other hand, he's been there so long that I associate the anime with him specifically, even more than his Pikachu. Plus, I was kinda looking forward to seeing him interact with Nemona. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah I never thought that he would ever be replaced. It was nice to see him finally reunite with his Butterfree as well as Brock and Misty. There is a 11 episode mini series centered around Ash and his journey and that'll be it. I'm glad that they finally decided to be bold enough to finish Ash's story. We might see some fresh new stories. That shiny Rayquaza has me really intrigued for the new series.

Speaking of the new series, Riko and Roy are the new protags. Riko is the girl with the barrette that is similiar to Ash's original hat. She also has a Thunderstone necklace and has Sprigatito as her starter. I'm guessing she might have a lot of Ash's qualities. Very refeshing to see a female main protag in the Pokemon franchise. Roy is the boy in the back with Fuecoco and Quaxly as his starters. He might be the rival or a companion like Goh.

I just saw this news, and I'm honestly rather skeptical. I find it hard to believe that The Pokémon Company has the creative faculties to entice them to end the series due to seasonal rot or because they're simply out of ideas (though from what I hear the Sun/Moon seasons helped revitalize the series tremendously), and I also find it difficult to believe that the anime has ceased to be profitable for them. It also doesn't help that we have some precedence (circa the Black/White era) of the anime making large status quo changes only to backtrack on them later. To be clear, I'm not saying this isn't happening, since obviously something is. But I'm a little uncertain how to feel about it.

Anyway, assuming they don't cower at the slightest bit of pushback... I haven't tuned into the anime in well over a decade. Series decay and general mismanagement hit this show hard to my recollection pretty much immediately upon entering the Hoenn region. Even as I enjoyed the related games, I simply found the anime to have become charmless, monotonous, and--to put it mildly--extremely repetitive. Not helping matters was how The Pokémon Company more or less vindicated suspicions that it was being produced on the absolute cheapest possible margins by unceremoniously replacing the voice cast that many fans at the time considered beloved with soundalikes as a cost-cutting measure. I will give those voice actors immense credit that they had big shoes to fill and--despite the awkward transition--they eventually came into their own, becoming perfectly fine fits for their respective characters. But the act alone on TPC's part always left a sour taste in my mouth.

So it should come as no surprise that I wholeheartedly support the current anime coming to an end for new leads to take center stage. Indeed, it's something that should have been done long ago. I haven't played the new games myself--and I don't plan to--but from what I've heard, horrible gameplay performance and other design issues aside, Scarlet and Violet have perhaps the best narrative of any mainline Pokémon game to date. And if the anime needs a complete refresh to hopefully achieve similar acclaim, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with, which isn't something I've said about a Pokémon project since the Nintendo DS era.

That being said, I would be lying if I said there wasn't a bit of melancholy in my heart for what we will inevitably be leaving behind. Despite the series' deterioration, its 20+ years of constant airtime is nothing to scoff at. And it truly feels like a little piece of something I once held dear has left me. Even as I've fallen out of Pokémon, I've never stopped loving it conceptually. I can still recite the entire first season's theme song, can still recount vivid memories of growing up watching the show in the late 90's, of falling in love with the characters. And so can every single one of my friends, even the ones that don't play video games. That's how tremendous of an impact this anime has had, and while I think putting it to an end is probably the best thing for it at this point, it's hard not to get a little emotional about the whole thing.

Here's hoping whatever happens next for the anime will be, at the very least, fun to watch.

There seems to be a mixed reaction to it so far. Some people are curious, but I've noticed a lot of people are threatening not to bother with the series from now on.

Since you mentioned Riko, there's a fan theory that
she's Ash's daughter. Apparently, she hails from Kanto, and doesn't like speaking about her family, which would make sense if whenever she brings up her 'father', all they see is the daughter of a Master, not an actual individual. If this turned out to be the case, it would be the perfect marketing opportunity to generate buzz with a special episode featuring adult Ash.

Would this mean
there's a fan theory of a fan theory that she is Giovanni's granddaughter?

I’ve finished up with Scarlet for a while (aside from raid events and maybe the odd shiny hunt). Considering I’ve played through it twice now and have collected a living Dex of all the new gen 9 Pokémon so far.

Now I’m back to Legends Arceus. I’ve technically finished the story ages ago but I never pursued completely completing it aka meeting Arceus by completing the Dex in full so that’s what I’m doing now. I actually like that completing the Dex in that game is much more involved than just having that Pokémon at some point. I look forward to finally completing it.

We need a Pokémon game based in Johto for the Switch.

I mean...Johto is for sure the best region. So...yeah.

Also, can they just put out a Switch cart with the classic GB/GBC/GBA games on it? - If they aren't ever going to get around to adding Gameboy to the Nintendo Online service, then at least give us that much. It would probably be too hopeful to ask for R/B/Y/G/S/C and Ru/Sa/Em (all on one cartridge) - completely doable, of course...but Nintendo hates its fans, so...at least give us the first 6.

Just do all of the Gameboy and Gameboy Color ones...I'll pay you. Please. Why don't you want my money. Lol

I was wondering something and didn't really come across answers when I was looking around, so I'd like to inquire:

Do you need both Phony and Antique forms of Sinistea and Polteageist for the sake of Pokédex completion or is it more of a personal choice of whether to bother? While playing Scarlet, I sought out two Antique Sinistea, one to leave as a Sinistea and one to evolve into a Polteageist. I wondered if I would need to bother with the same in Sword/Shield (since, while I beat Sword, I never really got into it as much and have yet to revisit it for the Expansion Pass DLC they eventually added). Wanted to know since I'd be aiming to acquire the Shiny Charm.

Having both is just for personal collection purposes. You only need one (of either form) to complete the Dex entry.

I know this cause I’ve completed the Dex in both Sword and Scarlet while only having the pony version. I did get the authentic version later for collection purposes but I was able to complete the Dex/get the shiny charm with only one.

Thank you. That's a relief. I might go for the personal challenge of finding the Antiques in Sword/Shield just for the personal collection purposes someday, but it's good to know that it's not mandatory.

Finished the Dex in Legends Arceus and only one Pokémon (Shieldon) left to get to research level 10. After that I will finally tackle the god himself.

Finally finished the Dex and got shiny charms in both Brilliant Diamond and Legends Arceus today. Sounds like a lot but I only needed one entry for each.

Brilliant Diamond I just needed a Spinda. I wasn’t having any luck with my random daily swarms but I was able to find someone to trade with which was great.

In Legends I just needed to do the big final battle with Arceus after which he joins you. Also completing this got me the Azure Flute in Brilliant Diamond so I’ll be able to hunt for a shiny Arceus one day if I so choose. :)

Can I just say...I absolutely hate that the Switch version of Pokemon Home doesn't have the GTS functionality. My phone is in no way capable of running the Pokemon Home app, or any additional apps for that matter. My phone barely works these days. I shouldn't need a phone just to trade Pokemon. - I've heard it mentioned that Nintendo/Pokemon Company/whoever thought it was a good idea to keep GTS off the Switch version because they didn't want to force people to have Nintendo Online to use it...but, that literally makes zero sense, since you could still have the mobile version as an OPTION. Heck...I can't even get the app on my Kindle Fire. I'm seriously just locked out of the GTS entirely, and it makes no sense.

Okay...rant over. This is just one of my biggest peeves right now.

I for one am glad they did away with Ash. (Never been a fan of characters who just perpetually remain children). - I'd be interested in a Pokemon movie with an adult Ash in the future. But not for a number of years.
