Pokémon Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

I doubt there's going to me new Mega's. They've already announced that they're coming back yet didn't reveal any new ones alongside. Seems like a stupid marketing tactic to reveal these new mega Pokemon less than 2 months before the game releases, especially when Mega's were revealed to be returning over a month ago.

I was totally fine with Pikachu staying unevolved, but Eevee? That's just strange, they basically just stripped Eevee of it's main feature which is Evolution.

Kinda makes me feel they should've just done Let's Go Pikachu or instead had picked a different Pokemon instead of Eevee.

The reason they picked Eevee is it's super popular. Japan is pretty obsessed with Eevee even for its cuteness. There's tons of Eevee merch. I'm talking about regular Eevee even - there's probably more merch of regular Eevee than any one of the individual Eeveelutions.

And the reason they made 2 games is that it's more $. Why? Because there are plenty of people who will buy both so they can get all of the Pokemon themselves. That's the reason why Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, which are essentially the "3rd version" of Sun/Moon, are 2 games. I don't think "3rd versions" will be a single game anymore. I don't know if spin-offs will always get 2 games or not, but they probably have a higher likelihood of it now.

I am excited for these games and I'll probably get them. Part of me hopes that this will be the new Kanto to remakes people thought were coming, so that the next mainline remakes will be for Gen 4. The first generation has always been my least favorite, so giving it a cute game similar to Yellow (my favorite Gen 1 game) makes me actually want to play them.

Well, these games will be the first Pokemon games I will not get (I think). I'm totally impressed with the graphics and I love that they let the Pokemon following you aspect make a return. If they put these 2 things in the 2019 core game I will be very, very happy.
What I dislike about these games is the heavily dumbed down version of what Pokemon really is. No abilities, no wild encounter battles, special moves that can be learned to defeat a gym.. It takes all the fun out for me. I also don't have acces to my Pokemon Go account anymore so for me it sucked that the integration of these two is so big. I hope that this formula will be a one-time thing to bring in new players, because if they continue to go on this vibe, I may have so say goodbye to my favorite game series of all time.

Serebii's Joe Merrick also got the chance to play the first 2 hours of Lets Go and has revealed a tonne of different stuff from his experience, and has stated it is a true "Pokemon game", just tweaked to "lure in the uninitiated audience".

Did Serebii just say there aren't hold items and abilities?! GF seems to be missing the point of a remake...I wouldn't consider those 'additions' from later games as much as they are a natural evolution of the formula as developers have more technical ability and design experience to work with. It would be like remaking Kirby's Dreamland again without copy abilities: it would feel limited and awkward not only to people used a brand of Kirby gameplay but to newcomers used to playing modern, more developed platformers. (Or closer to our hearts, an ACGC remake without customizable hats and hairstyles >: D)

Keep in mind I was actively excited for LG when we learned that wild battles weren't a thing and the new version of wild encounters weren't as random. That's certainly a dramatic, formulaic change for Pokemon's presentation, but they don't change how battles actually work. Neither does restricting the number of Pokemon, which honestly I also liked because it has the same effect of lowering complexity for newcomers without touching the gameplay proper. I love change to long running franchises, ESPECIALLY one with as much legacy features as Pokemon, as long as it doesn't result in less depth at the core.

I haven't really been following this game or this thread or anything but I wanted to say that I, as a non-Pok?mon fan who has somehow still played a fair deal of the main games, actually love this 'spin-off' type full Pok?mon experience. The hardcore parts of Pok?mon were never the parts I cared for, but I loved all the creatures and the idea of catching and collecting and getting close to them. I can speak from the most casual of casual fans' points of view - I think it's a wonderful direction for a spin-off series that aims for a different audience. I'll hopefully be picking up Eevee at some point close to the release!

^I do like how experimental it is, and I know it's intended for an audience who has never played a Pokemon game before, but things like that and type advantage select forcing before gyms make LG feel less in good faith. I play Pokemon super casually, too, except I started with Diamond/Pearl when I was 8 (which was when the battle system was ironed out into its modern state). Even then I couldn't go back to the GB games because it doesn't feel like enough is happening; presumably a lot of kids had this problem considering HeartGold/SoulSilver's sacred cow status among people my age. I'm just concerned GF's underestimating its target, or trying to reach a target that's logically too young for any RPG (because of the fairly advanced reading fluency they require...).

Oh no, are fourth gen stans the new Genwunners? XD

I don't care for it either. Like, at all. And I've also changed my mind on this game and would rather just wait for the main game late next year instead. Just makes the most sense to me to have all the features available rather than limiting myself for no reason.

So I've watched some let's play footage on Youtube today. A couple of people got save files from Nintendo to play the first 3+ hours or so of the game. They say it's really not that bad that the game is dumbed down. I doubt it. I stay sceptic. I'm not even sure if I'm going to buy this game. The graphics look amazing tho.

I daresay I'm actually hooked on this game, and I dont even have a Switch yet. I was a bit iffy at first but really the only difference between this and a "core" Pokemon game is the catching mechanics, the way items are dealt with and the removal of abilities (I think?)

I'm considering getting Lets Go Eevee version but the main Pokemon I want are exclusive to Lets Go Pikachu so...

I'm sorry, but the games look horrible. If Game Freak (I've been rudely corrected on this forum for saying Nintendo runs Pokemon) keeps doing this, I'm probably going to leave the franchise.

I'm one of those people who are not very fond of the overall concept of the game, but even still I've sort of grown fond of it's charm. I'm giving it a shot. I suppose it's because I just hated Sun/Moon more than anything. Let's Go is definitely watered down, but I know I'll enjoy the HD Kanto experience so I suppose it's worth it.

Keep in mind that you can transfer gen 1 Pokemon you've caught from Pokemon GO into Let's Go, so don't let the "version exclusive" Pokemon bother you that much, you have a few ways to get them with a single copy of the game.

Oh and you know the fact that there are only 153 Pok?mon in the game. Also the changes you mentioned are pretty significant...

Sure it isn't necessarily aimed at the core fanbase and I get that, whatever. But that doesn't change the fact that the game is dumbed down.
