Pokémon Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield General Discussion

Omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg

?With the bike returning once again in Pok?mon Sword & Shield, the Rotom Phone incorporates a new feature in that it can be attached to your bike in order to gain more speed and even traverse over water? (Source: Serebii.net).

As you can tell, this is the only thing I?m excited about from the Direct. :p

I love rotom and I’m happy it’s back. I just hope it isn’t as talkative as it was in usum >_>

Does anyone know if we'll be able to change clothing/customize hair etc. similar to in Pokemon X? That was one of my favorite features. D:

Trainer customization has recently been confirmed to be back but that's about it. We don't know what kind of outfits or hairstyles there will be just yet.

Here you go! Hope this answers your question. :)

Ngl hella disappointed in the rotom phone lol

Like can we not bring smartphones into videogames please??

Just saw the newest direct and I am definitely most excited about exploring the Galar region. They've clearly taken full advantage of the Switch's power, since this new region looks incredibly detailed compared to past installments. As for the new Pok?mon, though I don't like the legendaries that much, everything else shown looks great. If this game lives up to my expectations it could end up being what gets me back into the series (I currently still play casually but not like I did in Gen 6).

Just saw the new video from the direct. Everything looks amazing and I for one can't wait to play. Though this time I'm not going to look up too much information and so this is my last time looking in this thread. I want to the game to be completely new for me and for everything to be a surprise. Really excited for this! ^_^

Firstly, this is my opinion only.

The graphics in part, look like 2d cutouts stuck on semi realistic backgrounds. It looks odd.

This doesn't look like an improvement on the 3ds games at all, and isn't on par with what the Switch is capable of.

The main thing putting me off is yet another battle evolution. Dynamaxing.

Seriously the stones and Z moves were bad enough, but this looks like another huge headache to me.

I don't like the stadium gyms at all.

The lush wilds look like parks in a city.

As for the trainer, we are still trapped as a dopey looking kid.

I really didn't see anything to get excited about except for a few new Pokemon.

I saw someone mention Rotom Dex is back. I must have missed that. If it's true that is the deal breaker for me.
At least on the 3ds I could cover the bottom of the screen and that took most of the fun out of the game, but you can't do that on a Switch.

I'd also want to be able to trade my Pokemon from Ultra Sun to Sword, and not sure if a local trade is possible, since I will never use Pokemon Bank as your Pokemon can't hold items.

I will not be wasting money on a Switch for this.

After watching the Pok?mon Direct earlier, I'd say I'm fairly middling in terms of excitement.

The games look great and I'm really looking forward to playing them in November. I've tended to get both versions for the past few generations, though with the increased cost of Switch games compared to those on the DS and 3DS, that might put a stop to that in the future. Of the two, I'm far more interested in Shield since I find Zamazenta's design to be way better than Zacian's. All of the Pok?mon revealed today look good, though I'm personally most interested in Corviknight. I really hope its stats are good because its design checks a lot of my boxes and it's already now among one of my favorite Pok?mon designs in general.

All that said, I really am not sold on the Dynamaxing features as of right now. Compared to Mega Evolution and Z-Moves, Dynamaxing is just too out there for me. It's so ludicrous and immersion-breaking and, honestly, it just seems really creatively lazy. It might have been all right if it was just limited to the multiplayer raid encounters, but that it's tied into the Gyms is frankly worrying. The best thing I can say about it at the moment is that a Pok?mon only stays Dynamaxed for three turns before reverting back to its standard form. I hope that it's not as bad as it looks right now because it would be a shame if this dragged down the enjoyment of the rest of the game for me.

Not really a fan of the raid mechanic either, to be honest. I have enough friends who play Pok?mon that I can probably scrounge people up to participate in those together, but I'm a bit more of a single-player game sort of person, so it's not really my sort of thing. It's unfortunate for those who don't have others to play with, who don't use wi-fi, or who frankly just don't want to play with others that way though, and years down the line when we're onto the next console or beyond, the feature will probably be rendered useless.

Here's hoping that the good ends up outweighing the not-so-good.

I dont really have any interest in the raid mechanic either, i wish they wouldnt keep trying to implement Pokemon Go features into the main games- and if they do atleast keep it to the lets go series... I just prefer PoGo seperate :/

Seems as this game is starting to get good so far.

I like the new battle gimmick of Dynamaxing. It's mega evolution + Z-Move in one! But only for 3 turns.

The max raid battle feature seems pretty stressful, as you have to bring in your strongest and fastest Pokemon out in order to outspeed everyone else's Pokemon in the raid and hope to OHKO the wild Dynamaxed Pokemon. As only one can catch it. Also the fact that certain Pokemon are exclusive to the max raid battle are even more stressful at that.

I adore the Mareep evo line so Wooloo is #1

I like that little, ruffle collared jellyfish thing that showed up next to gyarados in the lake in the wilds. It's pretty darn cute.

I'm also really feeling Sword, so watch this pok?mon be exclusive to Shield.
