Scared to go to school

im scared too... not just because of guns... because of the bullies... i have a rare mental disorder called mesophonia (along with Aspergers and ADHD) mesophonia the is hatred of sounds... i HATE certain sounds. and kids love to tease me about it. they jumpscare me in the hall screaming "achoo" at me because i hate sniffling... they also click on the bus and drive me to insanity... the only thing that is keeping me alive is the love for my boyfriend... if i die i am afraid he would be heartbroken. another thing keeping me alive is fear of the unknown... i have little idea of what heaven is like thanks to a book called "Heaven is For Real." i just dont want to die because of:


a. the flu/illness
b. me stabbing/harming in any way due to my insanity
c. guns

Usually, I take right wing side of an issue, but I tend to stay between both endpoints (endpoints meaning the furthest you can go before it becomes extreme). For instance, I'm pro-gun, but Louisiana's gun laws don't seem very good (Louisiana has the loosest gun laws in our country), it's not good to invoke the second amendment in a gun control debate, 100% automatic weapons should be unlawful, and people should at least have a background check in order to purchase a gun. Banning them altogether may stop a school shooting, but it won't stop attacks like that. Sure thing that violent people may not have a gun, but they can use anything as a weapon to kill someone. A baseball bat can be almost as swift as a gun when it comes to killing many, and it's more inhumane than hanging or decapitation. So what's next? Ban baseball bats? Most murders in countries and states with strict gun laws are done with knives. So what's next? Ban knives? I'm telling ya, if crazy or hateful people can't get guns, they'll use anything to kill someone. And of course, let's not forget that a criminal doesn't care about the law. We do need to have some form of government, but there will always be people who are unwillingly to follow.

i believe the chances of a shooting happening to our schools is slim and the chance of being shot in one is slimmer but yeah i feel what you mean.
even if i know the chances of something badhappening to me are slim i still am paranoid to the point of being agoraphobic (afraid to leave the house)
i dont even go to school right now, though im planning to continue in the upcoming fall. ive even been scared to go out on my own unless i have a reason to such as meeting up with friend or my father or buying snacks. which is rare now. i don't like knowing people in cars can see me, or that someone may try to cat call me or be creepy or anything in general but the news only ever showcases how bad the world can be so makes sense to feel the way we do

yeah someone will definitely kill over fifty people in ten minutes with a knife or baseball bat....
guns are made to kill and hurt others and have no other use. knives are necessary lol and it’s illegal in many places to carry around knives, you’re not allowed to carry box cutters around unless you have a good reason (which cant be self defense bc thats illegal) here. if someone plans a murder of one person yes they will probably still be able to do it without a gun, even if it’s more difficult. but it is a lot more difficult to kill many people without guns, at least in a school where you can’t run people over with a truck.

Thank you Aura! Like I said earlier, my fear's generally coming from being in a threatened school before but I always try to remind myself that nobody wrong came to the school when it was threatened

I'm not for owning any gun you want, I personally believe everyday people should own no more than a simple handgun (unless you're a hunter), but if you think guns are the only problem then you're sorely mistaken. It can happen with any weapon.

Personally, I'm scared all the time. I'm extremely paranoid and am scared all the time of what bad things could possibly happen to me, no matter how slim the chances. So yeah, when things like this happen, it just increases my fear of most things.

you have every right to be afraid and angry. it's unacceptable that children have to live under such fear while gop is lining their pockets with nra money. it's time to demand change.
it's good to voice your concerns and fear and hold politicians accountable by confronting them and not backing down. know that there are people, kids and some adults fighting, so you don't have to be scared anymore.

I really don't want to scare the OP (I'm sure you will be fine! Schools are on high alert and the chances are small), but there have been 4 school shooting threats near my small town this past month. It's absolutely ridiculous... no shootings have actually happened, but my friend had to pick her kids up from school today because somebody was threatening to take a gun to both the elementary school and high school.

Because most news sources suck. They only report on things that will scare people or divide people further. If I had to give you any advice it would be to NOT watch mainstream media. They only make things seem worse than they are and lie about a lot of stuff tbh. You’re better off looking for your own information.

I think you're being a bit too unreasonably scared. Most high schools and schools in general will not have a school shooting take place. Here in West Virginia, the only thing that has happened, is a class being taken hostage with a gun - no one hurt.

Just confirmed yet another one here. Kids and young adults are getting arrested, some schools are getting closed for the week. I don't understand why they're doing this and ruining their lives, but yeah.

Edit: Two more in the same day. It's pretty much happened at every school district so far. Different people threatening each one... this is outrageous... stop invalidating the OP's fears. I do think they'll be perfectly safe and fine as well, but there is definitely something going on. I have friends with school aged children and the kids (especially the smaller ones) are really scared.
