The Official Nintendo Magazine (ONM) issue number 71's preview reads;
"Until recently, the only real change we'd seen to Animal Crossing on 3DS was that the body shapes were a bit different, with human characters now standing slightly taller than the town's various animal residents. Thankfully, the recent slew of revelations are somewhat more interesting, improving the game in many exciting ways - it truly seems that we're looking at a proper sequel here.
For starters you can swim now, either paddling on the surface or diving deep into the water. That may not seem like a big deal to anyone whohasn't played Animal Crossing before, but for those who have it's pretty exciting stuff. Fishing in rivers and gathering shells around the beach was one thing, but actually being able to dive in and grab things inside the water will lead to a whole new level of interesting objects to find.
Characters are no longer stuck with the same generic houses featured in every Animal Crossing game since the series began. New house styles like tents have been spotted, meaning the sequel should provide an array of architectural variety this yime around.
Those new, taller character bodies allow for a better range of customisation as well, especially in terms of your character's outfits. Whereas before you were more or less limited to different hairstyles coupled with standard shirts with designs scrawled on them, we've been seeing a wider selection of t-shirts, jumpers and even a full Link costume, complete with pointy ears and dodgy white tights.
Of the slew of 3DS games currently in development by Nintendo, Animal Crossing is the one for which they're giving away the least information, which suggests it may be a while before the game materialises. From what we've seen already, however, it looks like it'll be worth the wait, because even at this early stage it's looking clear this will be a proper sequel and not just one of the previous game with a little 3D polish.
We're ready to lose our social lives again Nintendo-bring it on."
