my royal rumble round-up:
maaaaaan yesterday was quite something!!! what a show!!
-I'll go off of the match order starting with the Women's Rumble. My favorite part about this was seeing the NXT girls get a spotlight. Giulia and Stephanie are LEGIT and I'm glad they got to shine a lil'. Roxanne looks to be the next big thing, as they let her hang around the match for a cool minute. Alexa Bliss returning was amazing, as she probably very well got the pop of the night! Out of all of the women in the match, I was pulling for a Bianca or Iyo win, or even a shocker Jordynne Grace win to just shoot her up to the top right off the bat, but they went with Charlotte. I get the decision definitely, but it'll always be an eyeroller to me because personally I'm so sick of her (even more if she beats presumably her opponent at WM Tiffy Time LOL). But I try to look at the bright side of things and because she's always at the top of the card and rarely loses, so that means she brings a great deal of legitimacy and aura still in 2025 in any big match she's in and she can go in the ring. If she is really going to face Tiffany, the match is gonna be a BANGER and I'm intrigued and how they're going to build this match up and hopefully Tiffy can get a big win and they don't pull the trigger on Charlotte's FIFTEENTH championship just yet as Tiffy JUST won the title, but we'll see what happens. If she chooses Rhea, same deal applies, but I think Rhea has more of a chance of beating Charlotte cause Rhea is already well established and the top woman out of them all.
-The 2 out of 3 falls match was a good, serviceable match. I was actually surprised they didn't choose this one to start the show lol. Street Profits going into business for themselves was nice, gave them a little edge and heats up the tag scene a bit because now there's a 3-way beef with them, MCMG, and DIY. Pretty Deadly is also in the mix too because DIY keeps giving them the short end of the stick. I'm guessing we're headed toward a big multiman ladder(?) match at WM to get all of these teams on the card. Los Garzas and Bloodline 2.0 will probably be involved in this as well and if this happens, there's sure to be some crazy spots. They can even do this with all 6 teams at Elimination Chamber, but I doubt it as the WWE Championship Chamber is going to be LOADED and whoever Charlotte doesn't choose will be more than likely getting a chamber match for that respective championship.
-Cody vs KO was a pretty cool match. I think I was incredibly hyped up for the Men's Rumble match so it immersed me out of this one a bit, but I still enjoyed it. It's nice to see Cody show a little bit of an edge like this when he's not so "cookie-cutter babyface". That shot of him standing on the top rope with both titles while a bloodied knocked out KO looks glazed and confused was amazing. People theorize that Cody is heading toward a heel turn, but I don't think they're gonna turn him so soon, as he's pretty much the face of the company because Roman is barely there and he moves crazy merch. They argue that his action last night were heelish but KO literally tried to end him and Randy LOL. But with his past promo on RAW and his match with KO, I'm looking forward to seeing how Cody's reign goes from this point forward and if him holding the title gradually does corrupt him.
-The Men's Rumble match delivered in my honest opinion, definitely my MOTN! So many cool moments from the immediate Rey/Penta face off, Fatu and Bron destroying everyone, JOE HENDRY, Speed LOL, not the AJ I was clamoring for but still cool, etc.. I feel like the first half of the match was more wrestling based, and the second half when Roman came in followed by all the heavy hitters got more storyline based, which was cool and made it even more fun to watch. Everything that happened with Rollins, Reigns, and Punk had me glued to my seat!! I'm so excited to see where they go with this feud, if all three of them feud with each other for WM or if this is just extra setup to get to the aforementioned LOADED Elimination Chamber to see who faces Cody. Whatever they're doing, I'm very intrigued and also can't wait to see how Paul Heyman factors into all of this. And of course, how could I forget to talk about the winner??? Let me just say, I like Jey Uso! He's very over, he moves merch, he's fun, and I'm invested in his story. That being said, I would be even more invested in his story if they didn't have him just lose to Gunther last Saturday and now he's seemingly going to face him at WM?? They should've just had him beat Gunther last Saturday and have Jey drop the title at Elimination Chamber IMO, my personal opinion on that. But honestly, I just have a problem with that match, I feel like it's going to take a lot to build that match and get it heated up for me, but I have no issue with Jey winning the Rumble at all! It was a genuine and shocking surprise, and I like how it wasn't predictable and formulaic, like most people had Punk(who i would've actually loved to see win)/Cena/Roman winning and Jey was seemingly lined up to be in a Bloodline Tag match at Mania but NOPE, he got the big win(+2000 betting odds btw)! Such a divisive decision, but I'm here for it and I support it and I'm all buckled in for this road to Wrestlemania and excited to see where we go from here, as I still am unable to predict the card.
