What are you reading?

It's called 1984
This made me actually LOL hahaha

I finished Red Rising, I’d rate it about a 3.5. It was alright, but I’m struggling to see how they’re going to progress the story through the next 5 books. I feel like I have to read it just out of curiosity.

I started reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch last night. It’s been on my tbr pile for ages so I’m glad to finally be picking it up. Enjoying it so far - it’s a real page turner!!

Off and on I’ve been reading. I finished “We Could have Been Friends, My Father and I: a Palestinian Memoir” recently before starting “Rogue State;” I had to put down the book recently because of depression. I plan on finishing it eventually and a book on the Cuban Revolution; that one I had put aside because I got burnt out from reading so many books at once 😅 (i was reading four at a time quite a few times).

Here is what else I’ve been reading from
last year to now 🙂.

(In case you’re wondering about the hashtags, on twitter I’m part of a book club that there is for cat accounts,I made these for myself and also to post there 🙂.)

That P5 layout is SO COOL!! Do you enjoy reading mainly non fiction or is it for study?

Thanks so much :D. I enjoy mostly reading non fiction 🙂. I love history and learning. I do want to try other genres out or more fiction books (that aren’t based on something real or if they are, have a happier conclusion or something) since sometimes I need a break, since a lot of the books I read make me very mad 😅.

I used to love reading non fiction too but realised it always made me angry/sad so now I read mostly fiction for a bit of escapism. Which non fic books are your favourite? I love anything by Bill Bryson!

I really like Eduardo Galeano’s books especially Open Veins of Latin America; it is a little confusing since I don’t know a lot about Latin America and he writes kinda poetically (at least that is how he is described by some reviewers). his books are written more like a story than a history; he didn’t consider himself to be a historian. Still very interesting to read and gave me a lot to think about. It also made me interested to learn more about Latin American history from a different perspective 🙂.

Stephen Kinzer is another author I like a lot though one of his books was a big miss for me. Blood Brothers is my favorite of his so far. 🙂 He writes about his time as a journalist in Nicaragua. I don’t like a lot of books by journalists or former journalists but this one was really well written, neutral tone (as opposed to a condescending one like one author had in their book).

I have a lot of favorites, but those are right now on the top or close to the top of the list. Kinda hard to say in a definite order also it has been awhile since I read most of those books.

Sorry for the long response; it’s hard to pick just one 😅

I just finished the Shining by Stephen King and I loved it! I only very recently got back into reading and that was a great read. I really liked the descriptions of people and places and the characters' backstories. I really liked how I made the whole book into a movie in my head as I read it.
I'm have bought quite a few books so I don't know what to read next, I suppose it's a toss up between The Lord of the Rings or Dune.

I am slowly getting back into reading (I used to read voraciously as a kid). So to help I'm reading the series that got me into reading, Warrior Cats! And so far it's been working! I'm on the last book of the first arc, The Darkest Hour, which will hopefully have me finishing 9 books by the end of the year. Definitely not a lot, but given for the past 10 years I've only read a couple books total, I'm pretty happy!

The series is about wild cats who live in clans with lots of drama and fighting. A lot happens in each book and the world building of how the clans operate is very interesting! And they're not too long so it's a nice quick read.

Right now I'm in the middle of re-reading a Christmas romance novel called On Christmas Avenue by Ginny Baird.
It is the holiday season and I love romance films that comes on around this time. But I haven't read a Christmas romance novel around this time before.

crawling my way through the little friend by donna tartt. it's a boring book, much too long for what it is, but it's still enjoyable enough. i didn't like the secret history, but the goldfinch was a great read a few years ago. maybe i'll like her next.

Oh my god. I think I need to read Warrior Cats. I remember they were the first books I ever read for fun but I never even finished the first one. I was obsessed with the characters, in fact I blame that series for my cat obsession now!!

Finished reading Dark Matter, it was a bit crazy but a good read overall.

I also finished my audiobook Lesson in Chemistry (and caught up on the series). If I could rate it 11/10 I would, that’s how much I loved it!!

Currently reading Babel and I’m obsessed. I’m learning so much considering it’s a fiction book 😅 hoping to get it finished before new year!

Roughly halfway through Book 1 of Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon, and I have to say, it's quite bizarre how much was changed when this was adapted into a Dreamworks film adaption. From this "Dragonese" which allows Hiccup to communicate with dragons, from Toothless wildly being different in just about every single category, to the characters and how they're portrayed, and the appearance of a character which was presumed dead in first film. I know Shrek was also a loose adaption, but the original source material was a really short story that was expanded greatly through movies. HTTYD is something else, entirely. Really enjoying it, so far.

my policeman by bethan roberts! so very good. i also started the premonition by banana yoshimoto & i'm enjoying it, too.
