Half-Past Hoodwinked [Answers Posted]

They took down the images so I can't remember for sure but I think in #2 you went back or forward a certain number of letters in the alphabet. In #3, each symbol stood for a letter.

Interesting. I didn't try anything like that for #2. I solved all three the same way - looked for repeats and patterns. Guess I've done too many of these over the years. :)

❤️✨❤️ I really loved the Half past hoodwinked events because I adore cracking codes and word puzzles and this event, fortunately for me, was one that I was good at * Insert proud emoji here* ... (unlike the nightmarish house of mirrors LOL)

This was my favorite event! I had a lot of fun solving all these code puzzles. I hope there's another event like this someday.

I'm a little surprised to see that so many people were confused by the answer to the second question; I thought it was very clear. But I also got all of the mirrors in the House of Nightmares wrong, even though I was familiar with all of the characters, I just didn't recognize them. Which I think goes to show that everyone's brain works differently, and what's obvious to one person might make no sense whatsoever to another person, and there's no way to know ahead of time how people will interpret things.

There probably isn't a way to make everything equally accessible to everyone, but I think everyone involved in creating the events did their best. And I had a lot of fun. :)

I'm not very good at code deciphering so I was really glad that this challenge didn't require any complicated skills. I really enjoyed translating all of these, even if I did make a stupid mistake on round one. Also loved the story that unfolded and the way the superhero-themed villagers were used in a fun way! The art/concept was really cute and all in all, very well done. Thank you so much for making this challenge for us!

Me too. I’m so used to solving Cryptograms in puzzle books that it didn’t even occur to me to try to decipher the codes any other way. I was like “Oh, Duh” when I realized how much easier the first one would have been if I had looked a little harder, though!

I had the same mindset and answer! I'm happy that the staff accepted it. I think the prompt asked how the crook was caught and I couldn't determine whether to interpret it as (1) in what manner he was caught (adjective- red-handed) or (2) what was used to catch him (noun- infrared laser system).. so I submitted both/the whole phrase
Thanks for making these. I'm not too great at the artistic stuff that most of the contests are themed around.
I think I got the answer to round three correct. My answer was:
Mira caught Redd, the crook, red handed because he fell for the passive infrared laser system.
Maybe my answer was a bit too wordy, but I wasn't sure if it was red handed or infrared laser system.
I thought I would just put both.

same, it could be read either way
i put one answer tho in the text box and the other in the body of my post, but i guess nobody checked that?

but it was lots of fun solving the code,
i felt like this kid

definitely a return-worthy event!

The purpose of the text entry field was to help automate the entry acceptance and ticket distribution processes. We do not manually open any of the threads to read what you wrote in the body of the post. I've taken a look at yours now and given that you entered a completely different answer to the text entry field it means we cannot accept this.

I actually got the code for number 2 because it reminded me of that one puzzle from Professor Layton that took me days to figure out.

latest

Ever since this puzzle above, I've been a bit more creative with my deciphering skills. dsfkjdjsk

I like these puzzles because they didn't require any artistic ability. The second one was a Cesar cipher and if you new what it was called you can find a lot of solvers online.

The third one was a find and replace. But you can find the key easily because Mira wrote it. You just had to find a word that's most likely her catchphrase cottontail and that gives you enough to fill in the banks

could a mod check my submission for round 3? i put infared laser system.

I think people had the dilemma that:
a) Flowery painting was already stolen, so Redd was going to ‘raid the museum for more artwork’
b) Flower painting frame was empty, and Redd was going to raid the museum to fill the frame with the ‘flowery painting’

To answer the question, ‘What is the crook going after’, I still feel like there was no absolute indication of whether it was a or b, and it was solely on how you interpreted the context.

Or maybe I’m just not understanding? idk I’m still kinda confused, sorry if I sound dumb
Yes this was exactly my dilemma and I picked the wrong one 🤡

I made the mistake of saying that the mission was going to take place at the unregistered boat instead of North Beach, I think I got the subject of the mission mixed up with the actual location of the mission.
I feel like decoding the message is like 80% of the work and actually answering the question is the other 20% as the answer may not be so obvious I guess
