Nintendo Direct Tomorrow (FEB 17)

This was my first Nintendo Direct stream I ever watched. Tbh I don't really play games that often and a lot of video games just don't appeal or click with me usually since I get bored quickly.

Miitopia really caught me attention, as it's been a while since I played it years ago. I might consider getting it for the switch if there's more added content because I had so much fun with the 3DS version.

Splatoon 3 looked interesting and I remember wanting to get into the series. However, knowing that this is the same team that developed ACNH, I am wondering what this could mean for the future.

Also, to all the people who complain about another sword fighter in Smash. All the recent sword fighter additions play differently, so who honestly cares or even notices what weapon they wield. 🤷‍♂️

It's not really about the sword as a weapon. It's just an aesthetic thing. It's a game about bringing together characters from all types of video games...so, having two dozen sword-wielding humans seems a bit vanilla to me. It's fine that you like the characters. I'm glad someone does. But, I think it's pretty obvious why many people aren't enthusiastic about it. Every "guy with sword" or "girl with sword" that we get is a missed opportunity at a character that perhaps offers more than that. And the characters are not interesting enough on their own to really appeal to anyone who is unfamiliar with the series that they come from. If you aren't a Xenoblade fan, you aren't exactly going to say "I want to play as this character". They're all just very "middle-of-the-road".

The direct felt meh to me. Nothing impressive other than the warp pipe function in New Horizons. Thank goodness I didn't buy the second fighter's pass. The fighters released so far feels underwhelming aside from Steve and perhaps Sephiroth.

But the game is about unique movesets. Two different sword characters can play completely differently. I see what you’re saying about them not being appealing to non-Xenonlade fans though. 🤷‍♂️

I’m confused on that anyway. Weren’t people not complaining when earlier sword-wielding DLC characters like Hero and Byleth got released? Why just now with Pyra/Mythra? I get the not liking Xenoblade part, but I don’t understand any of the rest of it. I’m also a person who strongly dislikes how few hand-to-hand-combat characters there are in Smash Ultimate (I mean, what? We have a select few including Ryu, Ken, Little Mac, and Terry). But I still think it’s great that each of these characters plays differently at least. I know that Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem are a lot more popular than Xenoblade, so maybe that’s why I guess. Just my two cents on the matter. 🤷‍♂️

People have complained pretty much every time that a human sword wielding character has been revealed, IMO. Except maybe for Hero just because he has such a strong appearance stylistically. People love Toriyama's art...so anything that has that DBZ or Dragon Quest look to it is usually gonna get a nod of approval from the masses. Otherwise...yeah, people have complained about the generic warrior characters.

Oh, alright. Thanks for clearing that up. I was just throwing that out there, but wasn’t 100% sure.

They seem to be adding those scientists that nobody cares about as characters.
Excuse me. They were unironically my favorite part of the Direct and the one hope I had for the DLC.

The Smash character is fine and doesn't look overly complicated like some of the others, Legend of Mana is great, Triangle Strategy would be more appealing if I liked strategy RPGs, Splatoon 3... eh, I'm too burnt out on 2 but maybe things will look different next year. I've already picked my hairstyle if I go inkling again. For Skyward Sword I'll have to see how good or bad the stick controls really are.
