♫ There's a hundred and four days of summer vacation
'Til school comes along just to end it
So the annual problem for our generation
Is finding a good way to spend it,
Like maybe... ♪

With summer around the corner and more and more stuff gradually opening up again, I was wondering what my fellow tbt'ers have in store for summer vacation this year to erase the pale lockdown summer we had last year. Are you keeping it local? Have travel plans? Maybe just back to the movies or an amusement park?

---

For myself, I'm slowly starting to plan a trip with my best friend to finally visit the original Disneyland in Anaheim & do a small roadtrip in california/nevada somewhere August/September (as we are Europeans, preparing it and making sure by then the borders allow us to come in is still a pain but we have good hope!).

Other than that, I think I will keep it mostly local with some Amusement parks & finally going to the movies again! During the whole lockdown, I also did a ton of work on my garden to make it summer ready with refreshing options & a new outdoor pizza oven so I'm also excited to be able to invite some people over.

I may visit my friend who lives near me. And I plan on going to the park sometime this summer with my sister, to walk around and look at the water/nature/scenery. I want to visit my moms grave too, so that's somewhere I'd have to have my sister take me sometime. Other than that I plan on reading, watching shows/movies and Youtube, and playing videogames. Drink bubble tea since I recently discovered how amazing it is. I'm trying to get in shape too so I'm going to be using the treadmill in my building a lot. Prepare for when I start college again in the fall (online classes) I'm starting back after a few years off due to mental health issues.

Sounds like great plans! I've heard a lot about bubble tea but never actually tried it before... Might have to give it a shot this summer 😅

Well, since you'll be in Anaheim or that area in general, there is tons of bubble tea areas there. A lot of shops have so many options where you can not have the boba in the drink and have lychee jelly instead or even custard (it's kind of weird but good, lol). You can control the sweetness of the drink too.

I have no plans yet but if there is, it might be a second visit to see my sister since she moved from Seattle to Los Angeles and that's only two hours away from where I live.

Thanks for the tip! Will def check it out if I'm there 🙂

I'm not vaccinated and a new COVID variant is spreading in my local area so I won't be going anywhere. The most exciting thing I'll be doing is lazing about in the garden with the barbecue going.

I've recently had an agent take interest in an LGBT fantasy series I've seen working on for several years, so my plan for the summer is to get the manuscript for the first book polished. Even if this person passes on my book I should at least be ready to start properly shopping it around by the end of the summer.

When not working or writing I plan to fill time with Game of Thrones (started watching it a couple of days ago) and gaming. I want to get Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends 100% completed before Samurai Warriors 5 comes out and finish the MSQ in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers before Endwalker releases.

I'm hoping to start a Masters programme in September and I'm excited for that!

I’m not doing anything exciting this summer, but I have plans for the winter. Although, they are more goals than they are plans. I’m excited to move forward with my goals.

i'm actually getting my first vaccine in a little over an hour, just in time for summer. (not that i ever go anywhere lmao.)

my parents have already booked and paid for a holiday in august. i'm not entirely sure where. somerset, i think. definitely not abroad. even if we could afford it, it's a stupid idea given the pandemic. i'm still sort of on the fence about going with them, but i probably will because i love the smell/sounds of the seaside, and it's usually the only two weeks in a year where my mental health eases up a little. other than that...

my birthday's also in august, but i'm pretty sure it just clashes with the holiday like always so it won't really be celebrated. i don't mind too much. i stopped caring about my birthday years ago.

i should also hopefully be seeing my girlfriend within the next month. we planned for her to visit a few weeks ago, but things kept getting in the way, unfortunately. no concrete date yet, but it's already been 10 months since i last saw her in-person so i hope it's asap lmao. i practically have a truck load of presents waiting here from her birthday, christmas and valentine's.

I'm keeping it local as I won't have been fully vaccinated until the end of August, that being said my bestie wants to come and visit me and see a little bit more of where I live here in little old Somerset, England. Apart from that though I'm happy to work for most of it and then once I'm fully vaccinated I'll probably start thinking about doing things a bit further afield, like the good ol' days.

No plans. I’m happy to just stay home. I’m not very happy with a friend of mine so atm, I’m not planning on attending the video game parties he hosts, at least not yet. Two people I’m no longer friends with attends those and that alone has been awkward enough (and even when I was friends with the one, I could tell she didn’t like me unless I say something nice about her). Also been having more anxiety about leaving the house for even a little bit.

Annual summer vacation for a week a few hours north up to Lake George (NY) for me. If time permits, hopefully out to Ohio for the Columbus Zoo and Cedar Point for a weekend. Maybe a Yankees game, we'll see.

Most weekends will be filled with mountain biking through some local state parks and swimming at some of the nearby lakes/beaches.

I’m mostly relaxing at home before I move out for grad school. I know I’ll take a few trips to my new city to drop off some furniture, check in with the school, etc.

Have fun in Disneyland! It’s definitely one of my favorite places to go. Have you ever been?

Thanks! Disneyland in Paris is the closest one to me so I've pretty much only gone there over the years. Once on another trip a few years ago we were in the vicinity but the rest of the travel group decided to go for universal Hollywood instead. Me and my friend are big Disneyland fans & amusement parks in general so going to the original one in Anaheim has always been high on the bucket-list, hopefully if all goes well we can cross it off the list this year 😉

I bet you’ll love it! I think the Avenger’s Campus just opened today, so that will be exciting for you! They have some pretty interesting new food.
I highly recommend Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland. It’s probably my favorite restaurant there.

And here’s a tip—if they’re open, try the single rider line! You’ll wait so much less and you can still wait with your friend. You just likely won’t sit next to each other (though in my experience, I’m often in the same ride vehicle with my sister when we go 😅)

For the most part i'm just going to be keeping it local. I would like to eat out at a restaurant again but I truthfully don't know if I'll feel comfortable doing so after avoiding other maskless people for a year and a half. I also would like to visit some family members who I haven't seen, if it feels safe to do so.

The one thing I'm for sure about is I want to go camping as much as possible this summer. I am arranging a camping trip with some friends for late August since we should all be fully vaccinated by then but I also want to go camping with my mom.

Currently my only concrete summer plans are going shopping in the city this Sunday and to go out to eat with my friends next week!

But I'm also tentatively planning to go stay in an art deco-themed hotel on the shore with my mum and brother (we're all vaccinated so should be fine), and also maybe go to a local-ish theme park with my friends. It's my dad and my sister's birthdays in July so we'll probably do something to celebrate those too,,

I’m visiting a friend next week (safely)! i stay with them for a week out-of-state every year for their birthday in june, and since we couldn’t hang out last year we’re extra determined to make it happen this year. 😌 after that i’m just going to spend the rest of my summer at home probably. lmao

Went with "glued to TV/games", but a few of these apply to me! Now that we're fully vaccinated, I've got plans with my mom and aunt to go out on occasion for some treats. We'll still wear our masks and it'll all be food to-go just to be extra safe, but my god, I have not had fast food, takeout, or soft-serve ice cream in over a year and I miss it so bad. I'm also going to look for a place to try some bubble tea! I've never had it and I'm very curious.
I'm also planning to start going back to my chiropractor! I didn't go at all in the past year and both my back and I miss her, ahaha. Additionally, while I'm not sure how successful it'll be, I've made the decision to finally go and try to find a good therapist to help me deal with my anxiety and depression. 🤞 I've got some work plans I'm hoping to start on, too.
And of course, the thing I actually voted for—I'm planning to relax with some games at home as much as I can, ahahah. I suffer in the summer heat, so I prefer to stay in whenever possible.
