Pokémon Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield General Discussion

My anticipation for these games has fluctuated massively over the past few months. When it was announced that not every Pok?mon would be able to be transferred in eventually, I basically decided that I was just going to stick with the older games. As time went on though, seeing Pok?mon like Polteageist and Sirfetch'd, alongside stuff I already liked like Corviknight and Grookey, I became more interested and willing to give these games a shot, and actually a bit excited.

With the posting of the Pok?dex earlier in the thread, seeing how significant the cuts to the roster really are, I've circled back around to being pretty unenthused about Sword & Shield and my future with the series.

The trainer customization additions and stuff like the Nature changing mints are really nice, but in some ways they doesn't feel sufficient. At the end of the day, it's a question of why I should care about dressing up my trainer when the roster has been so decimated. My playstyle for a long while has been to create teams based around themes, using Pok?mon from across all of the different generations, complete with fitting nicknames. The freedom to just construct a team in such a way is forever lost, since it was stated that not only was this culling permanent moving forward, but that it was actually intended to have started in Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Pok?mon aren't gone forever and while they might be missing from one game they will show up in others, but no further games are intended to ever have a full Pok?dex again. Given Game Freak's statements, no patch or expansion should be expected, and even in the very unlikely event that either should happened, we'd just end up back here eventually.

I'm planning to at least give Shield a shot and see where I go from there. As it stands, I reckon this might be my last new adventure and I'll thereafter go with the original plan of sticking with the older games. Whatever the case, at least the release is nearly upon us.

First time commenting in this section of the forum, but I'll be getting the new Pok?mon game next week. After Dexit, I wasn't really sure if I still wanted to buy it, but my brother's getting Shield anyway so I suggested we split the cost of the game and play it together. Haven't played a Pok?mon game since about 2016 so I'm still kind of excited. Also, I've never played a game on the Switch, so this will be my first one!

If this game doesn't fix the problems in ORAS and Sun/Moon then Im not buying another Pokemon game. I hate how these games are now trying to sell to youngest generation so everything is so simple and easy. You get linear path that gives you dialogue every 3 steps.

I think the leaks, and the removal of leaks, are just marketing ploys by Nintendo to get people to buy the game. I had no interest in this game before new Pok?mon started leaking. Surely Nintendo knows what they?re doing... I hope lol

What were the problems in Sun/Moon and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire?

So turns out Charizard will not be the only Starter in Sword and Shield, but the games will still missing almost every other Starter:

I'm guessing while still not all Pokemon will return, more will probably unlock post game like in many previous games. These "post game mons" probably won't be part of the Galar dex or if they are it'll be an expansion dex added in the post game. That's my guess anyways.

Only time will tell.

They’re also removing 144 Pok?mon moves (including Z-moves and partner pokemon moves).

https://wccftech.com/pokemon-never-features-full-pokedex-again/

There are truly too many moves and Pok?mon to have them supported in newer games.

EDIT: Personally, it’s better to have more Pok?mon and fewer moves than to have fewer Pok?mon and more moves.

The new starter evolutions got leaked, hopefully they're not real. They're super ugly.

only one looks ugly. One looks pretty cool. One looks okayish. Overall... could have done better.

Saw the stats too. Appearently over 700 base stats? Yah no way they're THAT powerful lmao. Not buying it.

I just prepurchased Shield, excited to play but at the same time a little disappointed and let down tbh.

Okay, this is both funny but also a little bit embarrassing at the same time:

They can create these huge new Pokemon forms, but are not able to give Wailord a proper height...?

I'm crying, that's hilarious!! Imagine a giant Wailord?

Any Wailord which is bigger than that one is better. I mean did Game Freak forgot how big a Wailord actually is?

This one here looks like a pool toy which that swimmer guy just send out to a Pokemon fight.

You are one of the few people I know who is getting Shield. If you ever want to trade version exclusives sometime just let me know! :)

It seems they did LOL. I wonder if other Pokemon got messed up like that.

I hope not, I mean if it's a little bit off then I wouldn't care about it, but if it's like with Wailord here... Then it would bothers me tbh.

Gamefreak: people would mistake Wailord for a gigantimax pokemon! Downsize it!
