I didn’t reset, which is unusual for me. In past games I would reset for hours or even days until I got something I liked, but this time around I decided to just go with whatever they gave me. Fruit, villagers, and the airport color weren’t that big of a deal to me, so I didn’t care what I got. And since we can change the layout ourselves, I figured that didn’t matter too much either since I can just change whatever I don’t like.
I was planning from the start to keep my first island no matter what. I think that's part of the fun. I don't blame people that do reset! It's just preference. I think the RNG aspect of the game in this manner is goofy and fun!
Sure did! I was pretty set on Muffy as a starting villager (islander?) and cherries as a native fruit, and got the desired combo after ~2 hours of resetting. My map isn't exactly what I wanted but hey, that's what terraforming is for.
Oh yeah! Probably like 5 or 6 times; took me an hour or two iirc. I was looking for either apples or oranges and a good map that would be easy to plan around. I think I managed it! And a happy bonus is that my airport color matches my native fruit: orange!
I'd have reset by now if not for terraforming existing later in the game. There are a few things that irritate me about my map.
To me:
* Villagers I hate will soon be gone with Amiibos
* Rivers and cliffs will soon be redesigned.
* Airport is just a single building out of sight-out-of-mind that is not used enough to care about. I got yellow, and let me tell you, yellow to me is the absolute worst color. But I keep it.
* I don't mind what fruit makes it on my passport, and I'll be replacing native fruit anyways.
River outlets cannot be changed, so I just pick a map that was the closest to what I needed.
No, and I'm glad I didn't. I did a lot of resetting in New Leaf for stuff like house plotting and campers and it just sucks the fun right out of the game.
I reset once because as I was flying in, my island had cherries. Both my NL towns and my WW town had cherries, so I wanted something different. The next one had pears, which was what I was hoping for, but I would have taken any of the others, so I kept that. Plus, I liked the map and I'm not terribly upset with my starters.
I'm really glad that they gave us the ability to terraform our island layouts, plus allow us to plot buildings. I remember resetting for weeks in newleaf, wanting just the perfect village setup. Those new features in our game have eliminated many reasons people had for resetting. I did reset in this game for river output locations, peninsula location, dock direction, airport color, and native fruit.
i resetted because i wanted a specific town fruit and airport color. had i known about having native flowers, i may have rest for those as well. i also wanted a map with an east facing river (which i got), but along the way i found a map that had 2 south facing rivers and an airport lined up with the resident services. i kinda regretted not going with that one, but i'm still content with my choice.
it actually didn't take all too long to find the map i wanted, maybe less than an hour? i had one of my sisters with me helping me with my choice because they'll "eventually" make a character. and all of the maps were actually really cool looking, and the fact that terraforming exists helped me loosen my restrictions on the starting map.
Originally I wanted to go with the flow but I made a moodboard I liked so much that I had to stick to it. So, yes, I did reset for my town. I wasn't able to play the night of release because it took me FOREVER to get the airport color and fruit I wanted. But I really didn't mind because I'd rather have the perfect map than feel the need to reset later.
I didn’t reset but I’m starting to regret that stuck with oranges and pears as well as cosmos and pansies all of which are my least favourite unfortunately it’s a real pain resetting nearly a week in I’d lose all my fish and what not.
