My family has never cared if our presents are surprises. We always just pick them out for ourselves.
But I know a lot of people consider that blasphemy and get really defensive about how presents HAVE to be surprises
What about you guys? Do you care one way or the other?
No, I'd rather have people ask straight out what they could get for me because people almost always fail to surprise me tbh. Also I probably forget some anyway til its time to open so it'll be nice either way.
I like surprises, but I won't get upset if it's not a surprise. If people ask what I want, I'll give them several ideas so they can pick one and it's still somewhat of a surprise. Likewise, if I'm stuck on gift ideas, I'll ask people to do the same and list a few options for me.
Now that my brother and I are older, my parents just give us money for the bulk of our gift anyway. Anything else we get from them is just like a small stocking stuffer.
I like surprises but I'm not gonna put up a fuss over it. Usually in my family one gift will be a surprise and the other will be something you asked for
Idk, I guess I'm a mix. I kind of like surprises because it's nice to know someone looked at something and it made them think of you, but sometimes it can backfire and be something you don't like lol, so nobody is happy. Either way, I've gotten to the point where I'm more interested in what other people get/seeing their reaction to what I've gotten them, so it's all good.
I really don't care, but sometimes I prefer to have presents that I specifically asked for. A lot of the time, when I ask for presents it's usually something I need, like work clothes or body wash or something like that. Surprise gifts could be anything, and sometimes I don't like what the gift is. That being said, it's always nice when a surprise gift turns out to be a really awesome gift.
I prefer no surprise, because yes I will be surprised but it won't necessary be... fun.
I don't ask for presents because I'm not a child anymore but if they really want to get me one, it can always be socks, candies or ice cider. (less bad surprises... but even so)
My relatives are not really good at finding stuff I would like, they got me several hand bags even if they never saw me use one, girly clothes, perfumes, jewels, body lotions...and the weirdest was a custom doll made from a little broom.
I got the best surprises when they got tired and just got me chocolate.
I personally prefer both. I give my mom a list of things I want every year and she usually gets them all, but there's always extra thrown into the mix that I didn't ask for but like a lot. My parents have a pretty good idea of my tastes so I'm not usually disappointed on Christmas (except for in 2016 when my mom got me the freaking Sanrio stickers instead of the actual amiibo cards, but luckily I was able to buy them for myself right after). As for my extended family members I usually tell them to buy me jewelry because I know I'll actually use it.
Both, really. I’m fine with people getting me surprise gifts, but if I really want something I ask for it. Now that I’m older though I really don’t care what people get me and I don’t really ask for anything anymore. As long as it’s from the heart and it reminded them of me I’ll be happy. I’m more focused on getting other people presents nowadays and seeing their reactions.
I personally don’t like being surprised about anything, not just presents, so I prefer to pick out my own gifts for the most part. I hate having to pretend I like something even if I really don’t, and I also hate feeling obligated to use/wear something I don’t like just because someone bought it for me. I prefer just knowing beforehand what my gift is so everyone is satisfied.
On the other hand, I also prefer knowing EXACTLY what someone wants when I’m buying a gift for them, because I want to be sure they will like it. It’s just better all around in my opinion
When I was young, then yes, surprises were the best. But now that I'm "old" and living away from home, I much rather want to just give my family a list of specific things I wish for. Plus it makes things easier for them
I don't mind surprise presents as long as they're things I can use and like, but more often than not I get surprise presents that are completely useless to me or super far from my tastes, and I just end up donating them to Goodwill.
I strongly prefer to tell people exactly what I want, and that way I end up only with things that I can use or that I need. To be honest, my budget is extremely tight due to health issues/medical bills, so anything someone gets me that's something I really can get use out of is super appreciated, because it means I can either save money by not buying it for myself, or it's something that I wanted but couldn't afford/justify on my own.
Likewise, I basically insist on getting exact gift ideas from friends/family on what to get them, because if I spend money on something and it turns out the person doesn't like it or can't use it, I feel depressed and upset. I feel like I wasted some very valuable funds on something that didn't even make them happy.
I don?t really like the whole idea of Christmas to be honest. This whole thing of buying gifts because you have to is ridiculous. I believe gifts have more meaning when they are given to you on a random day because someone cares. People buy into Christmas and give gifts because it is supposedly Jesus? birthday. I know I?m going to get hate for this, but nobody knows when Jesus? birthday actually was. Someone just centered a holiday around Jesus because of all the other holidays we have, so Jesus needed one too. Honestly, Christmas makes people spend money on people they don?t even truly care about because they feel like it?s required.
I like a surprise, something that I don't know and can look forward to on the day. It gets me hyped and into the Christmas spirit. But I'm not bothered knowing what my gift will be, because same thing goes, I know I'll be hyped to get it on Christmas day (and impatient xD). I usually have a list of things or ideas that my parents will buy, so most years I have a fair idea of what I'm going to get. I'm not bothered if it's not a surprise, either way goes for me.
I'm trying to keep a couple of gifts a surprise for myself. They were brought online, so I could easily check the account and see what it is but I'm keeping it a secret for myself haha
I actually love surprises. It's the excitement from it that I miss from being a kid. Even surprise parties are welcome (even though I'm a pretty antisocial person altogether). As an adult, I swear everything has to be planned ahead of time and have order, so it's a nice change and I love the anticipation.
I like surprises, but I'd really rather they ask me as X-Mas things are usually in a higher range?
Most of it ends up as things I have no use for and are un-sellable, so we'd both be better off if there was some communication.
I know people who are actually in debt because of just gifting a bunch of random things every year.
Just, why?
