i originally thought you had to get the expansion pack and pay that trash price, so happy i found out i can just keep my regular subscription and just buy the DLC separately tbh (plus i want to own the DLC, not lease it). would happily pay for the new pricing if they had gamecube and dreamcast games but i don't care about N64/genesis at all at this point. the slow drip-feeding of content has also soured my thoughts on the service as a whole, wish i could just pay for online service and that's it

can I just buy the acnh dlc from eshop and have it work just fine with a physical copy

yep! DLC works perfectly with physical copies :)

Oh I didn't see there was different options. I have a online membership gift card that I haven't used yet I am just waiting for the new update to activate it. But does that mean if I was to get my online on again I can access the paid DLC for free? And then when my membership expirers I loose it all ?

I was planning on getting the standalone game, but I was also planning on upgrading my NSO. I guess I lucked out there haha. If they ever stop NSO though, I will be getting the DLC standalone as well.

I'll just buy the DLC. I'd prefer just owning it, especially since I don't always subscribe to NSO, since I don't always use online. And I don't even know if the expansion pass will have a monthly only deal, and if it doesn't well... Then it's not for me at all (though, big rip, I wanna play Ocarina of Time).

I'm going to keep them separate as well.

The expanded online subscription just isn't worth the price for me, it seems really lacking. I might subscribe to it one day, who knows, but for now it just doesn't seem necessary and I'd rather use the money for something else. Plus, while I'd much rather buy a physical copy of the DLC, this is the closest to keeping it forever so... I'll just do that.

I originally was going to buy the expansion, but it IS really expensive. And I don’t know any Genesis games and only want one 64 game. Not really worth it.

So separately it is!

DLC outright. :D I love this am willing to pay for this much content. A friend of mine said that if they had to pay anything that they would quit playing but when they saw the trailer they changed their mind!!

I don’t think it’s worth the price to upgrade the NSO, so I’m just going to buy it outright. I’m not really into the classic games and I generally prefer to actually own games and dlc packs. On top of that, I just renewed my online so I wouldn’t want to wait to start playing, even if I pay a reduced fee to get the expanded subscription.

MayorofMapleton talked to customer service. I'll just quote their post below:

So basically each account needs to be on an expansion pack subscription via family or individual subscription in order to access the DLC.

Or if you just buy the DLC separately on your main account as long as it's on your primary console and all accounts are on the same console then all accounts will have access. :)
So, say you have three islands and already have a family membership for that purpose. It would be more economical to pay for the new Expansion pack via Family for $80 than paying for family subscription at $35 a month in addition paying for 3 DLCs at $25 which equal to $110?
Does that sound correct? I am kinda confused and questioning if it is really worth it to have 3 DLCs. I think one DLC for my main island would suffice to play Happy Home Paradise.

Also, not really interested in other games besides AC, Fire Emblem, Zelda or the upcoming Pokemon Arceus. I think Nintendo needs to focus on putting new games on the market. I don't like looking back in life. Classics are nice, but the gaming community should be really making new content and new games. I am not a big fan of paying for older games or remakes for nostalgia.

With the relationship type people have with ac, I think to own it indefinitely will be the most useful. We all go through spouts of wanting & not wanting to play. And with those random times you REALLY want to play, it would suck to not be able to access the game.

I will buy the DLC separately. I love HHD and I see myself playing this DLC until I've given every villager their dream vacation homes.

I'd rather own the dlc than it being a temporary add on for a year (idk i might be wrong? i assume you dont really own it but someone correct me if im wrong)
I dont really see why i'd go pay $50 for a subscription that doesnt have much to offer as well, I've played n64 games multiple times too so its just too much money currently

Yes in your case the Family expansion pack would be cheaper due to have different islands with accounts on different switches. If I were you I’d just get it for your main. It would probably start to feel really redundant to play the DLC 3 different times anyways. If you really wanted to get the DLC on all of them later you still could by waiting for a sale or something but it’s up to you.

I actually do enjoy playing older games from time to time but definitely not for that insane price. Not to mention there are other ways to play those games for much cheaper if there was something I just had to play. No matter what the plan isn’t worth it in my opinion.

I find the expanded switch online subscription just ridiculous, mainly because of it's price. As much as I'm interested in playing some of the N64 games, I'm not gonna spend so much money for this especially since the selection is too small (and nobody knows when and what new games getting added, so no guarantee if it's worth it after all) and I'm also not that hyped in any of the Sega games. Therefore I'm gonna stick with the regular online subscription and buy the DLC on it's own.

I'm going to buy the DLC separately, I don't like the idea of "renting" it. I also don't like this expanded NSO membership, just give us the N64 games with the exisiting NSO membership. Not much even comes with the existing membership in the first place compared to what PS and XBOX give. Com'n Nintendo.

I was planning on both but I think I'll get the standalone HHP for now. I'll decide later if I want the expansion.

I will be getting the DLC separately. I like the idea of owning it instead of renting it. I like that if I don’t renew my subscription right away I don’t lose the DLC. As much as I like some of the games that are on the expansion I don’t have time for the games I already have so paying for the expansion right now doesn’t make senses. Since I really won’t have time to play the games.

Thank you for the logical response.:)
I sometimes go overboard when purchasing anything AC related. I only had one HHD for the 3DS and had multiple towns as well. It really makes sense to only buy one DLC.
Sound advice, Holla. Much appreciate it!
