What are you reading?

I finished Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky this week, I loved every page of both. I’ve had The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt on my shelf for weeks ready to read but the size is intimidating me

ah I love Perks! Hope you plan on watching the movie adaptation if you haven't already, Logan Lerman absolutely nails Charlie's role.

Still listening to LOTR: The Return of the King on my commute (about 11 hours left), but I've finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath (1963) and I've moved on to The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir (1949, with 2009 translation)! Given my workload, I won't have a lot of time during the weekdays (or weekend for that matter) to read, so I imagine it will take me some time to get through given its size. I don't mind shelving it for a while if it doesn't hold my interest, but the first five pages have been good so far. 😊

I haven't read a physical book so far this year, and we're already at the end of September! 😳 Mostly I'm reading research papers at the moment for work (so. many. papers.), but I also have a bunch of other things I want to focus on right now! That being said, I did end up shelving The Second Sex temporarily, though I hope to get back to it at some point. Most recently on my commute to work I've listened to and finished Take Your Eye Off the Puck by Greg Wyshynski!

"Points and Lines" (Ten to Sen) by Seichō Matsumoto in Japanese. Also known as Tokyo Express/The Dead End.

It's a famous detective novel from 1958 I'm reading as part of a bookclub. It starts a bit slow but I'm enjoying it!

Currently reading it starts with us by Colleen Hoover. Recently read it ends with us and honestly cried and laughed throughout 🥲

This book I got from the library, the cover drew me in and I read on the back it's a story involving tarot cards so I'm excited to get into it! :)

I'm currently reading:
- The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro
- Circe by Madeline Miller
- The Odyssey

I haven't picked any of them up for about a week or so because I've been busy preparing for school, but I'm trying to get back into them now.
Still working through these (school ;-; ), but I'm now also reading Wrath of the Triple Goddess, the new PJO book. I'm about 60 pages in and it's pretty decent so far!

I'm around halfway done with Circe, I've put TSATS aside for now but I'll probably go back to it once I'm done with WotTG, and I'm... slowly but surely working through the Odyssey.

I recently watched the animated adaptation of Junji Ito's Uzumaki. So naturally, I just had to read the original comic series for the nth time.

Tegan and Sara’s new graphic novel Crush just came out, so I’m gonna reread Junior High and then read that!

I have not read books in years. I used to love reading growing up until I became a teenager and I just eventually lost interest.

I read the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman last year and I have to say I really enjoyed it, but didn’t read anything since.

I’ve gone on holiday now and something must have possessed me as I bought two books at the airport (it was buy one get one half price…) and I’m now reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. They’ve just made it into a Dreamworks animated movie and I’d seen it on Twitter so gave it a chance randomly even though I had no idea what it’s about. It’s turned out to be really great!! Super short chapters and good pacing, I’m loving it!

Finished The Cruel Prince - I quite enjoyed it. It’s definitely targeted to a younger audience but it was an easy, enjoyable read. 3/5 stars

I started and finished The Seven Year Slip which I really enjoyed! I wanted to take a little break from fantasy and this book was exactly what I needed. 4/5 stars

I tried to read Powerless again but ended up DNFing at 20%. I just hate how it’s written and it feels like a rip off of hunger games. Very rare for me to DNF a book so I’m very disappointed in this one, especially as so many of my friends have given it glowing reviews.

Finally, I’m currently reading The Final Empire which is the first book of the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve heard so much about this author and I’m ready to sink my teeth into it! Currently 12% through.

Books read this year: 21/20

I just started reading The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett. I'm only six pages in, but I'm enjoying it so far!

I'm reading The Last House on Needless Street and it's fantastic. It's exactly what I'm looking for in a horror book-genuinely scary and good writing. If it stays at this level of quality it might make my top 5 books I've read this year.

I'm slowly reading MetaMaus by Art Spiegelman, and Pet Sematary by Stephen King! Pet Sematary is one of the books I'm reading for the Halloween season this year.

This was me as well! I hit high school and was  forced to read for book reports. Suddenly I didnt care... but I got back into reading as an adult, and there is soooo much to read that is awesome!

Reading is great when you can choose what you want to read yourself, or find people with similar interests for recommendations.

I am glad to hear you are reading!

I started "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman after I saw part of the movie in class. It's been fun so far!

I seriously need to read the book. The movie has been a favorite of mine since childhood!

Sorry, I just saw this since your post auto-merged and I didn't get pinged. Yes, you should! As someone who watched the movie before reading this, I thought the book was just as funny.

I should, and I will read it! But with everything being digital now, I feel like I still need a physical copy, like in the movie, so someday I can read it to my nephew and neice... or maybe Fred Savage when he gets sick! It would be weird though, since I am a couple of years years younger than him.

I thought him, and Paul, and Winnie would be kids forever 🤣
