Somethin my mom said a while ago still kinda bothers me.
So sometimes I go shopping in the guy section of stores cause I just like some of their clothes more. I've contemplated getting guy's shoes as well but haven't. Graphic Tshirts, wallets, jackets that actually keep you warm, bottom down shirts, also belts. I can NEVER find the belt I'm looking for in the women's section. I want that fabric belt with holes on it everywhere and metal things around the holes for extra durability and optimal adjustment. I could never find that in the women's section, both of my belts were from the men's. Are they a bit long yes, but I can deal with it.
Anyway recently I've been looking for a button down shirt in the men's section. Not anythin fancy, just like a regular patterned button down, somethin a little more 'dressier' than Tshirts, but not like fancy. I found one nice one, put it in the cart, and tried it on at home cause I didn't feel like tryin it on at the store.
It fits really well, and it does cause it's a slim fit. Most men's clothes are a little tad bit big in the shoulders, even thou Ive been told I have big shoulders. Also men's shirts are long and rhe sleeves are baggy, but as a not big framed person wearing clothes for people who are typically bigger and taller, yeah shirts will be a bit longer and roomier than what I'm used to.
When I went back to that store I bought another slim fit button down cause I really liked the one and had to take advantage of a men's button down that actually fit well.
One day I was talking to my mom about the shirts saying how I really liked them and she asked-
'Why do you keep shopping in the men's section?'
By itself it doesn't seem like a harmful question, but with the FOX news she watches non-stop and her attitude changing for the more negative on gender and racial culture, it's not a good thing to be askin your in the closet kid.
Also, I've been shopping in the men's section for years, this isn't anythin new. I've been doing it weeeeell before the pandemic, back when I was in high school senior year, so like 5ish years ago. She's never asked anythin of it before.
I hope she doesn't think I'm trans or somethin. What with my short shaved hair and wearing men's clothes, belts and wallets, she could be gettin that idea. Which is technically wrong-ish. With both of my parents watching FOX alot and their declining views of anythin regarding the rainbow community, I've decided to not tell them I'm non-binary or pan. I really don't want to get into *another* arguement with them about it (not my identity but like the context of what non-binary and pan is). It's one thing to say 'I like both men and women' but it's a WHOLE other thing to say 'gender is stupid we should just wear what we want (also a bunch of other things). Also Idc what gender anyone is when it comes to dating preferences, I'll date anyone no matter their gender or lack of'.
Also, I still wear dresses, heels and paint my nails all sorts of flashy colours, like, ya know, a 'fem'. So it's not like I only ever present myself as 'masculine'. All cause I want to dress myself more 'masc' doesn't automatically make me some bad story she's been hearing in the news regarding LGBTQIA+ people.
